Just stumbled across this video. I’ve been so eager to understand transmission but I struggle with working out the maths behind it but honestly man this video made so much sense you’re a legend!!
This is so rad I made a Google Spreadsheets with Calculation Tables for 7/6/5 Gear cars, you only have to enter the Max/Min gear settings and it will calculate your Final Adjustment. thanks for taking the time to post this video, so helpful!
Yeah its proved from gt5 on that these dont get you the best settings its bollocks ill still pass people using this , and i tune gears of the top of my dome
Hi, thanks for the video. I extended the math a little and came up with the following general approach for any size gearbox: 1st gear: Set to MinRatio, Top gear: Set to MaxRatio, Interim gears: Ratio=MinRatio+(MaxRatio-MinRatio)/(TotalGears-1)*(CurrentGear-1), Final Gear: Set to achieve desired top speed.
Also, if you want to perform the Gran Turismo "transmission flip" and achieve even closer gear ratios overall, set the Final Gear to max and then Max Speed (Auto Set) to min before performing the steps in my original comment.
I've just been doing the "Top Speed / Final Gear / space out the gears" thing. This is hugely helpful!! One thing - I wrote the equation down as: A.) AV = (max - min) / 10 B.) (AV) X + min = optimal setting ...then just put... 5 gears: 1st: X = 2.5 2nd: X = 5 And so on for the rest of the gears, and gearboxes with 6 and 7 gears, using the X values you provided. You probably think I'm on drugs, but I find this easier. 😂

So....set 1G to minimum, 6G to maximum, and equally space the other gears (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%) along the sliders. It's a start but it won't be optimal. 1G is likely to be too short... meaning you won't actually use it... meaning you'll only have 5 usable gears... meaning you won't be able to keep the revs close to peak torque as effectively.
While this may not be the optimal way to tune gear ratios (which should be based on the track) it's a good start for beginners because it spreads the gearing linearly and simplifies setup by reducing the variables.
How do you determine the initial top speed? Does it change with each track? Also how do you determine final gear ratio to start with? Do you just use the default game setting for final gear? Great explanation so far, thank you very much.
It changes for each track, first go for a few laps and just eyeball it initially, then do some more laps and adjust. then I fix gears, do some more laps and see what I get at max speed - if it's too low/high I adjust final gear accordingly

I'm new to GT so I'm just trying to learn as much as possible. Also, when you change your Power Level and your Weight Reduction Level will that mess up your transmission/gear ratios?
Yes, weight and power should be done before changing gears because you will end up with different speeds. About max speed you have think about if the car will ever reach it in the track, if not - you will be wasting power
Tried to apply this guide to GT7 and it must either not be transferable or I'm missing something. Every time I set the lowest gear to min or the highest gear to max it creates a new minimum and maximum respectively.
@@yundaz so your 1st and last gear are picked the same way. The difference is the selection of your AV. AV will be the delta of 1st & last gear, divided by # of gears & then divided by 10. For example, 2.5:1 is 1st and 6th is 0.85:1. AV would be -> 2.5-0.85 = 1.65, 1.65/6=0.275 and that divided by 10 would be 0.0275. That AV is used across ALL gears, with the same multiplication factor that he uses (2,4,6,8,etc) and added to the respective gears lower number. Not sure if this is THE WAY, but it has given me some decent values and gear spacing. Hope that helps.
For these equations to make sense in real world cars, the numbers at the beginning and end of the sliders (which were used as numbers in the equation) that shift whenever you mess with the top speed setting slider would have to be based on more than just "the game says this", so I am curious as to where the game gets those numbers. I suspect they are arbitrary, and the math here is just lucky.
Well perfect exemple of misinformation here , It is unnecessarily complicated and not effective at all . For any circuit or any gearbox , just put the lower gear you used in the slowest corner to match the max torque rpm ( use 1 if you can flatout , 2nd if you got no grip at all in 1st ) And finaly tune the final gear for the longest straight of the track so at the max speed you reach is close to the max power rpm ( watch out to keep room for any drafting ) . And for the rest , do the same , depending on the track adjust each gear to keep corner exit close to max torque without being in need to shift up right at the exit or being under it too much in rpm . But let be honest there is much more to gain in GT Sport by playing without traction control and shift up at lower speed than having a headache on Gear ratio . That's a game , pretty arcade one , and far away from real life F1 race circumstance or so .
@@drose_the_god5035 I meant Faburisu's method is better than the video. When you tune your final gear to reach top mph at your breaking marker for the longest straight you will have better lap times and speed in corners. Whenever you buy a car this is the very first tune you should do. I have not tried the first gear tuning for slow corner, only final gear and it gives you real fast lap times. I have experience doing this and know of its effectivness. There is no need to tune all gears individually and do math. It's a waste of time. For example look at my video for Fuji GT and the longest straight, when my speed reaches red line in final gear and when I start to break.
I found this equation worked damn near perfectly for my sf19. I dont really mess around with gr 3's or 4's. Im addicted to formula, F1 and the best car in GTS Redbull standard 2014. It would be awesome if you could do a complete tune on the red bull and F1 mercedes. Great video and Im a subscriber.
I think you just use the numbers he used, in relation to how many gears you are tuning. 5 gears requires 3 numbers: 2.5, 5, 7.5 6 gears requires 4 numbers: 2,4,6,8 7 gears requires 5 numbers: 1.67, 3.34, 5.01, 6.67, 8.33. It looks like when you add a gear, you need to reduce your starting (first tuned gear) number by approximately 0.5 (in relation to his 5 gear starting tuning number, which was 2) and proceed accordingly through the rest of the formula for each gear. So I am guessing that 4 gears would require 2 numbers: 3 and 6.
@@mrjoeyman notice how 5 gears multiplier adds up to 15, 6 gears adds up to 20 and 7 to 25, therefore 8 would add up to about 30 but what would the numbers be
Interesting technique, I'll give it a shot. One question tho... I noticed you didn't take the vehicle's 'power band' into consideration to make the most of that sweet spot in the engine's overall lb/ft of torque as the rpms increase. (For those that don't know about this, it basically refers to a 800-1000rpm 'zone' on the tachometer where the engine produces the most power... some engines do this in lower rpms and others do it in the higher rpms while the rest do it in the middle rpms) I've noticed that each car in the game has a different power band than the next car, so wouldn't we want to focus as much of each gear's ratio to the each specific car's sweetspot?
It says in the title - simple, so i didnt bother with power bands and such. Also take note that there have been an update that changed transmission, so your results may vary. Take care
@WhatIsThisPS Gaming Hey, after finding your tuning videos some of the most informative on YT, I just acquired LaFerrari an after plenty of YT an forum searching I'm yet to find a decent one. NinjaSquirrel30 hey, man, thanks. I dont own laferrari, but sure there can be a great tune. Start out with transmission, then move on to lsd as they are quite easy to figure out. In suspension just go step by step finding balance between oversteer and understeer. I hope this helped

I understand the speed control system but I would like to know how to adjust the final speed (auto) why put it for example on 260 km / h instead of 240 and then make the speed calculator and set the final speed to the end.
we could simply set the maximum speed on the minimum to have more acceleration and adjust the final speed to have the top speed and adapt to the circuit?
Hi just Quick quesion, how do i know witch top speed is right Before you mess with rest of the gear? i have mustang gr3. i tryed like other says set final gear to 5000 top speed to 200km all the way to left. then mess with rest of the gears and finaly move final gear. but the problem is car wont lounch Quick enough unless i use max Power on car and top speed is allso 5 to 10 km less then stock 310km or 320 km transmission settings i dont use aids only abs

Because you need to have some torque left to rev it higher. If you do that, you'll feel it "dies" on last gear. The only medicine for that is a long draft to reach the top speed. It's what happens at Nascar, they get great speed only when drafting many cars at a time

Hope that helps.
well that is an amazing explanation thank you .. but should i use this setup for all my car types ?

Why did the acceleration value on the left went down after changing everything?
Thanks! Very useful :;)
Learning application of TOM here
Awesome Explanation
For these equations to make sense in real world cars, the numbers at the beginning and end of the sliders (which were used as numbers in the equation) that shift whenever you mess with the top speed setting slider would have to be based on more than just "the game says this", so I am curious as to where the game gets those numbers. I suspect they are arbitrary, and the math here is just lucky.
It works great, thanks :)
What is / (+×=÷) because we use different signs, thx
Great info grazi! :-)
Good stuff! Thanks.
Can this work for gran turismo 1 & gran turismo 2
I am having a hard time tuning the gearbox
Idk, I havent tried
I understand this more than in math class
Hi, just wanna ask. How to tune transmission for 8 speed gearbox on Mazda LM55? Thanks.
Which track?
This equation works excellent. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.
Btw. I tried your supposedly simpler way and this video’s instruction is better for me. So your way might work for you, but not for everyone.
@@trethacker pretty sure his method is better
@@7James77 who's that "his"
@@drose_the_god5035 I meant Faburisu's method is better than the video.
You are a genius
I found this equation worked damn near perfectly for my sf19. I dont really mess around with gr 3's or 4's. Im addicted to formula, F1 and the best car in GTS Redbull standard 2014. It would be awesome if you could do a complete tune on the red bull and F1 mercedes. Great video and Im a subscriber.

What do I times a 8 speed by?
How do come up with the u times the low number ? For example 1.341 x 5 ???? How get the 5 for that
flfox 93 Racing hey, man. I'm not sure I understand the question...
WhatIsThisPS Gaming I think what he meant was how did you get the value that you multiplied the Adjustment Value for each gear by?
@@mrjoeyman so what would 8 gears be
@@mrjoeyman notice how 5 gears multiplier adds up to 15, 6 gears adds up to 20 and 7 to 25, therefore 8 would add up to about 30 but what would the numbers be
Interesting technique, I'll give it a shot.
Take care

Do you have the formula for 8 speed.
Hi. Renault gr.3. Big problem at the start. Very slow. What can be done on the exchange?
Pull the 1st more to the right until you are happy with ti, then adjust 2nd a bit
Would this still work on gt7?
@WhatIsThisPS Gaming
Hey, after finding your tuning videos some of the most informative on YT, I just acquired LaFerrari an after plenty of YT an forum searching I'm yet to find a decent one. Any idea of a complete tune setup to maximum the performance of this beautiful car at stock setup I can drive an control it fine but I won't to find out if there is a demon setup to enjoy even more.
NinjaSquirrel30 hey, man, thanks. I dont own laferrari, but sure there can be a great tune. Start out with transmission, then move on to lsd as they are quite easy to figure out. Suspension, start by finding out the ride height, I would go quite low, then anti roll bar, then damping (try +2 on rear, see if that works) then camber and adjust the toe. In suspension just go step by step finding balance between oversteer and understeer. I hope this helped
No worries your vids are detailed an big help to understand the dynamics esp after being away from series since ps2. Thanks I will try it out, an your missing out what a machine ;) if you get one an find ultimate tune setup hit me back with it. Drive hard an have fun amigo

@@jeremyg506 it won't change a thing - it's the same as 3+1 and 1+3 in the end makes 4. Acceleration depends on both - max speed and final speed

i dont use aids only abs
Rinku Multani depends on track. Give it a quick spin and check how close you are to maxing out final gear. Then adjust to that

I’m just trying to make a roll race tune for my Camaro ZL1 and one of my car
Hi, whats roll race?
@@valtsvilcans6776 Roll racing, as it is run at IRRA events, is heads-up competition with two cars side by side on a quarter-mile drag strip or a straight section of an oval or road course. Keeping things familiar for racers, each run starts from a 40-mph roll, as verified by a spotter who triggers the green light to race.
So i did these steps for my ford GT LM Spec II Test Car and the math goes over what the results are? Am i missing something
Gear 1 was 2.090
Gear 2 was 1.690
Gear 3 was 1.480
Gear 4 was 1.150
Gear 5 was 0.940
Gear 6 was 0.799

@@vanderdetails.detailing. well, I haven't tried this, so take it with a grain of salt, but try tune the car for oversteer and then try to apply this tune. yeah
Fantastic
How do you round it? By hundreds?
Depends on situation, but I don't stress too much about perfect rounding
I always put it on max speed and acceleration LOL
Dude idk? My second gear looks broken
when it comes to top speed why not just keep the final gear setting at a decent acceleration and adjust 6th for top speed? best of both worlds no?
Because you need to have some torque left to rev it higher. If you do that, you'll feel it "dies" on last gear. The only medicine for that is a long draft to reach the top speed. It's what happens at Nascar, they get great speed only when drafting many cars at a time
Because when going into last gear youll lose all accelaration and momentum you had m8ghtvget a h8gher speed but a slower time

Wrong, the best is to do a gear flip... This settings make you slow of the line and doesn't maximize acceleration to top speed ratio
Not wrong, he specifically states this is for rolling starts at the beginning of the video. You're usually already in 3rd before the race starts.
@@leonicodemus8566 also you adjust the gearbox to the track so you don't have to switch up gears right before a corner. Every gear shift is like a little lift and you loose time. On most tracks you use the 3rd gear the most so it's better to make it longer to avoid shifting
