Hi Beverley. Jazz is a bit of bigger topic and I'm still reeling from editing that blues one tbh! lol I'm definitely gonna doing a bit more jazz stuff this year though. Thanks for watching and let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. J:-)
Jazz is definitely a deep rabbit hole with a lot more theory. The blues with its serious limitations on form move quickly to phrasing as the primary focus whereas jazz you have more options for the next note. And then there’s jazz songs in a blues form, and that’s really instructive as to how you move from blues to jazz, but learning to work your way through a 12 bar blues in any key at any tempo is part of what you’d consider the larger academic jazz pedagogy
Aw, thanks Niki. You've already got much of this stuff first hand of course. Here's to the end of the lockdown and getting you back in the studio! J:-) xxx
Hi Jamie. Hope you enjoyed the coffees I bought for you! Your lessons are worth many more coffees. Thanks for your superb teaching. I am working on your handout with the 5 different licks. Taking the key of 'F' I note that you use the Fm blues scale (which is in the key of Ab) and the FMaj blues scale. Why would you not use the Dm blues scale which is the natural minor of "F"? I always have difficulty in selecting whether to use the maj or minor version. Help please.
One blues that I was rehearsing with fellow musicians today was Mr PC, and despite its simplicity, it is rather quite unique. You have a new subscriber here, and what do you think about Mr PC?
