- As we continue to press closer to Cataclysm Classic's release, lots of players are still unsure on if it will be worth playing or not. Wrath of the Lich King Classic now sadly seems to be over, and all sense of community has diminished, whilst Season of Discovery continues to rage on in popularity with Phase 2's imminent release. Yet, is there the background potential that has been ignored that Cataclysm Classic could revive a community feel throughout the expansions tenure? Let's find out.

For me, this will be the most important event in warcraft in many years.
Looking forward to cata heroic dungeons and early raids, had a lot of fun back then.
Cataclysm was the expansion in which I really learned how to play WoW, even though I played on a private server 10 years ago when I was in highschool. I'm really excited to experience it now that it comes back. I'm also playing in current wrath classic to prep right now. And let me tell you something: cata was the shit! Its features are great! The transmog system is great, flying through Azeroth is great, being able to solo farm old content is great, the new talents rework is great, many QoL features like the dungeon finder & dungeon journal are great, the currency simplification into justice+valor & honor+conquest points is great, the raids and dungeons are great, archaeology is great, the NEW REVAMPED WORLD and people getting back to the main cities is GREAT, and the changes they did to hunter? ... God damn AMAZING!!! Playing through wotlk made me miss those things and tbh, the old world looked kinda dry and empty now that I looked at it, so the revamp was needed imo, and I've never understood meme specs. Now with the new talents you can never miss. It allows you to spend less time in a window to spend more time in the world. Also I don't like staying in Dalaran. It feels busy and crowded in a little space & Good thing I have engineering in order to access the AH.
This is my take on it. Thank you very much for making content on Cataclysm; it's really needed. I'm always checking up new content for insights & news on the beta & prepatch. I really think Cataclysm along with MoP are the perfect midpoint between the classic feel being present and retail QoL features enriching the overall experience!
I've heard many times that Cataclysm is retail 2.0! ... I also played retail, and no, it's not the same thing, AT ALL!
So yes, I AM THAT EXCITED FOR CATAYSM!!

I'm in the exact same boat as you, mate. When they announced Cata classic i hopped into Wrath only to get prepared for what's to come. I am way too excited for Cata, but damn the dungeons and class design felt so good! I'm glad not everyone likes it tho. We can say goodbye to wrath babies 😂

I think Cata would be better received if they rebranded it as "Cata Progression Servers" or something like that, kept a WOTLK era server (PVP/PVE/RP) and opened up a TBC one with the promise maintaining those 3 servers for those wish not to progress. I don't plan on playing Cata for the decline reason you've stated in the community, but the vibes from people who are quitting Cata are that they feel its not the WOW experience they wanted. I agree - I mentioned a similar point in a previous video discussing potential for "MoP Classic" in that a bit of re-branding would probably go a long way for a lot of fans (i.e. maybe Timewalking Expansions). Sadly I don't see that happening but I'm still excited to revisit these expansions regardless! And thanks for the kind words :)
I think peeking Era realms its awfull idea, realms should progress all time or they gonna die. Like what the hell u gonna do on last phase of wotlk ? U gearing ur char to bis casualy in like 1-2 month max, then there is nothing to do exept maybe some pvp but its barely live on classic realms, glads+ glads boosting+smurfing glads who got like 10x glad titles.
Hardcore and season of discovery already killed my wrath guild, won't be playing cata at all

I started wow in cata and have nothing but good times from it and memories I will never forget. I can't wait to play it
I've started playing wow in cata, i got wow battlechest from parents on christmas, but they didn't realized you have to pay subscription to play it after 30 day of battlechest game time, but it was great gift! They didn't pay for my game time so i started playing on private server, i was like 13? Those were good days and memories ill be playing cata for sure!

As a disgustingly filthy casual, I think they’re releasing these Classic expansions way too soon. I completely missed TBC & jumping in at WotlK is LONG! 😅

The biggest problem people had with cata was the hard heroic dungeons, and the fact that they boosted the to the ceiling, when people do tier lists it’s mad gear and max skill compared , most classes in the s and a tiers of these lists are super competitive and ith eachother on dmg it’s just utility that boosts it to high a and s tiers. So the parse competitors arnt super gods anymore a 80 parse vs a 99 parse is only separate by a few thousand dps usually, and when you’re doing 45-70k dps it’s not that different and the fight still goes smooth with an 80 over a 99 with not much time difference
Players would rather play cata than be stuck in wotlk with no content. However cata does not feel like classic. That's why SOD is a better take on classic, it extends the classic feeling by giving players more content within the classic world.
Tbh Im not sure if Ill raid constantly or not because of not having a guild atm, but Im surely going to play the expansion cause Im interested on it (If there's a friendly gulld at Golemagg EU lemme know ;D)
I’m leveling a shaman in Cata. I’m playing sod to I played wrath back in the day a little bit. I regret not stating sooner.
The only thing that sucked was Deathwing's two fights and how Dragon Soul went on forever.
That last encounter was a real stinker - might be different knowing it's a stinker going into the expansion this time though, no surprise disappointments.
All the re-releases of old expacs wont have the issues of drought wich is nice. Id even welcome a short stroll down WoD. BRF and HFC was pretty baller
I also think at around that time rift launched and Star Wars maybe ? So people were itching over a new mmo, and were upset at having to possibly learn a new rotation with less tools we have now ti help with that.
Yeah from memory I think you’re right, was a boom of MMO’s at the time and people looked for alternatives
Cata launch will be very strong, I remember the initial dungeons being very challenging and the raid encounters interesting. Surely the first 2-3 weeks will top notch WoW experience.

i just started playing wrath classic last week and i've been really surprised at how populated it feels, both levelling and max level. if you are thinking about trying wrath/cata and are on the edge cause all these doomsayers keep coming out saying it's 'dead' and 'empty' trust me. its not true
in my honest opinion no.
i sort of enjoyed BC to an extent even being a rogue who was just kinda piss poor performance wise the majority of the xpac but even wrath was a huge miss for me.
I love what they did with H+ and all that but that xpac really just can never live up to what i remember as a kid, going back and knowing everything really ruined it.
The way people play makes this game now feels bad.
If it werent for sod mixing things up a bit I'd honestly think Id part ways with wow finally seeing as I just cannot get enjoyment out of retail anymore.
The change started at the end of wrath and it just slowly morphed into an entirely different experience xpac after xpac after.
I don't think i really see anything in cata that I want to relive.
If i couldn't enjoy wrath theres no chance in hell cata can hold my interest.
Reliving the xpacs really has just brought me to the realization of just how much I love Vanilla.
The Classic-TBC crowd were completely different to WOTLK by the time Ulduar was out. I fully expect all the problems in the community will get much worse in Cata. Just like how people begged for RDF prior to its release, we'll see people beg for LFR prior to its release. The few stubborn holdouts from Classic will find themselves surrounded by players more accustomed to the retail environment.

wow token killed wrath for me, rather it had a huge impact on the encomy or not, it being in the game with combonation of gdkp made gearing feel pointless esp. when 9/10 runs were gdkp
The players who blindly berate Cataclysm have the same energy as players who post on the Official Blizzard forums about cancelling their subscription.

SOD is exactly the thing everyone wanted. I don’t think Cata will ever get off the floor. But people want mists so who knows
i like people who are speaking for others. "this is what everyone wanted". There are many people and me included who doesnt care about SOD at all and are looking forward to cata

Most of my guild is the opposite, SOD is just something to do between content releases of classic. 30 minute 10 man dungeons isn’t enough content..

How it was hard ? Did full clear's since weeek2 in gdkps.

Cataclysm was by far the best expansion all around, better pvp and harder pve bosses..

Cata gets a bad wrap. It was an enjoyable expansion. The original content cadence was the problem.
I think it probably does get a bad wrap (I certainly have given a negative opinion of it over the years). But in all honesty, the closer we get to it the more excited I am to see it again and have my opinion changed 🤘🏻
atleast better as wrath cheating shitshow and AHK warriors will not do 3 times the dmg
