  • This video pairs with homework 3, where we ask you to calculate the strike and dip for a bed with constant strike and dip at some depth below the surface.

Thanks for this. I note you say early on 'true depths', do you mean true elevations? Depth is relative to ground level where elevation taken from your original depth offset from contour would be from sea level. Thanks

yes, thank you for pointing that out. If your heart desired, you could do the same calculation with depths.

At 4:33, how is it so that the two apparent dips are same?

    • @kc_structuralgeology6992

It’s because the second triangle is actually a similar triangle that we have to imagine being inside of the larger triangle. We aren’t making a triangle from B to C, we are making a similar triangle B’ to C inside of A to C.

Sanu Mishra I'm not familiar with that. Can you comment with a link that describes what you're talking about? There might be a different name for it that I'm more familiar with.

      Hi
Thanks for the video very helpful
I have a question, you mentioned any two points of the same height define strikes. If point B passed through at A-C line with a contour, why that point isn’t our strike line or Why B’ isn’t exactly on the contour line?
