I started skating when the first THPS was released for N64. I was in highschool, i was bullied everyday, i hated my life. I started skating then i found out there were other skaters in class and my life turned around. Now i had a crew, i was no longer bullied and i finally felt like a normal human being. Ive been skating since then, Tony is a huge inspiration in my life, probably i wouldnt be alive if it was not for him. Im almost 40 yo and skateboarding is still the most important thing in my life, i dont care if i fall and get hurt, i love skateboarding and i own my life to this piece of wood.
Tony Hawk and The 900 are the reason I started skateboarding Without that moment I might not have stared skateboarding or would be skateboarding today Because of that moment I started my own skateboard company I owe 24 wonderful years in counting of my life to that moment and Tony Hawk
I was there in sf for the 900. Same day Travis Pastrana jumped his dirt bike into the bay. The riding session with the best of the best in all sports around sf after every night was most memorable part of it all

Even as a 51 year old ex-BMX Freestyler who sucked on a skateboard, I still get goosebumps every single time I watch anything about Tony's 900. Knowing how difficult skating is to learn, I have the utmost respect for all skaters. This video is awesome. Thanks for sharing 😊
Sounds like me (10 years younger than you though) through the 90's. Still carry all the scars and legendary glory in my small home town... my kids had no idea who I was back then and earlier this year I was in my auto shop and a friend brought over a BMX bike, the kids were blown away by some flatland stuff I could still do. Tony's significance to skateboarding and extreme sports is that of the god like level (yet so humble) that Matt Hoffman had back in the day. Being towed by a dirtbike to set extreme air records, and the pictures in BMX Plus! back in the day. It fueled my addiction to getting better and going bigger until I had taken so many slams that I was missing organs, was disfigured, and my head injuries started the onset of cognitive decline. Retirement was forced, not chosen, but I lived more in those years riding freestyle BMX than 10 people in their entire lives put together.
Tony just landed a 540 at 55 years old. Jordan isn’t still in the nba trying to guard Jamal Murray, Gretzky isn’t still in the NHL playing the best hockey players. But our GOAT Tony fucking Hawk still competing in the X Games. He’s the goat of all goats
takes me right back to this night. the tries were getting late and i had to commute from ct to nyc for work in the morning, so i popped in a vcr tape ( youngins look it up lol), so the next morning i start watching the tape and as he finally landed the 9, the city bus that i take to the train station drove right by my house....late to work, but worth the memory..👏🏿
I've heard this story so Many times, but not like this, this is special, I started skating because of THPS, and one of my life highlights was seeing Tony Hawk skate in 2006 in Birmingham, England.
You know what’s crazy is it took Tony so many times to land it once and then I saw this kid on IG who can do back to back 900s so smoothly it’s insane🤯🤯
Incredible video! Tony Hawk is such a legend.. I remember skipping school cuz my best friend found his Christmas present, which was a PlayStation with Tony Hawks Pro Skater.. We’d take a razer blade and carefully open them both up, hook it up, get higher than the electric bill and play the shit out of it for hours, had the game beat before Christmas lol
X games was so new it was free to get in at San Francisco. I was 13. We caught the caltrain from San Jo to the city . Tony had the whole event on their feet while he was trying that 900. Even these grown ass me, sitting in front of us on the top of the bleachers sipping Henny from Hunters points who had no idea who or what Tony was trying. Even those dude were standing up screaming from excitement 🤣 Core memory for me forsure! One of the best things I've ever witnessed live in sports! Oh , and we met WEE MAN too🤙
i grew up street skateboarding but now that the Olympics are a thing for skaters vert needs to come back so many gnarly vert skaters man id watch it every time its on
I started skateboarding because of the 900 and THPS Games. Later became a skateboardfilmmaker myself that lead to a filmmaker career doing commercials and documentary VOD shows, now at features. The 900 was a huge change for Tony Hawks life but I am sure it had a major impact on so many lifes - when I just look at myself. Imagine just a gnarly trick - made by a guy in a pipe couple years ago - what impact does it have? And well done, such an emotional documentary.
I'm not even a skater and I randomly turned on the TV during the X Games right before Tony started attempting the 900. I was intrigued and kept watching until he landed it. It was a totally unforgettable experience and I'm glad I watched it. Now, almost 25 years later, I fully recognize the importance and the magnitude of what I saw.
There was an old thrasher ad of a 13 - 14 y/o Danny Way that actually landed the 900 first. However because it wasn't in a contest, he never got any additional credit. Tony is a legend, no question. However, Danny truly is the ground breaking force that brought skateboarding to it current benchmark.. I.e megaramp!!
As a young-mid teen when this happened, getting to grow up in this era, I didn't play sports, give me a skateboard or bike, this is still one of the most influential and monumental moments of my life, a was a die hard extreme sports fan the tony hawk game was even my favorite game, so glad I got to witness this
Ive been watching this series, as a child of the 80s, this one got me choked up, remembering the x games being watched as a 25 year old and seeing Tony do what Tony does...epic
Was not expecting to see Rodney Mullen (or many of the other pros)! What a treat! This was so great; hopefully there is more of this type of content coming from this channel!
I watched this live. I was maybe 14? This is one of those memories you'll never forget! Tony Hawk is my favorite skater of all time! I like that hes a positive influence to all up and coming skaters and professional alike. Makes me feel like i can accomplish anything with hard work and dedication to your craft!
This is incredible. I was a kid watching that x-games best trick when it aired and every time I’ve watched the clips of the build up of tries he takes and how much closer he gets every time until he lands it, it gets me so hyped. Brings me back to that moment in time reliably. So rad to see it being celebrated in such an amazing way
Man, i never had any role models growing up, but tony hawk man. I loved skateboarding, the culture more than anything. Watching this as an adult is so surreal, because as an adult we tend to forget our role models. This video helped remind me what that feeling was like. To feel that motivation and that focus to achieve what im after, like tony did. Even more significant now as an adult. Thank-you.
My family had actually been to events at that X Games the day before that happened (at least I think it was the day before, but I'm going off of memories from when I was 7). I was very into skateboarding at the time--though I only had some crazy plastic 60s board and a Toys-R-Us special. Going to watch the X Games was like a dream to me. Then, I remember watching him attempt the 900 on TV the next day. I was glued to the TV, watching him get closer and closer to landing it. Then he did, and seeing it gave me full body chills. I don't think I stopped thinking about that moment for months after it happened. Then of course, when THPS came out on Playstation, I got it and played it for hundreds and hundreds of hours, landing many 900s of my own. Thank you, Tony, for leaving such an impact on skateboarding.
Great video. A little sad at the same time though because it shows how far the X Games have fallen in terms of cultural relevance. And they keep making choices that only worsen their situation. I wish the X games still meant as much as they did when I was growing up in the 90s/early 2000s. I still remember watching this live when it happened and just being blown away. It was a perfect storm and to see how everyone was competing while also supporting each other was just so awesome.
He got Taz shafted from the best trick contest ( he had been there 5 years in a row before this ) and was watching Taz's 900 video footage . Hawk plays dirty.
Saw this on TV when it happened, my brother and I were freaking out, running around the house crazy excited, it was completely electric. My mom was like, “what heck is going on??” And we just kept yelling “Tony Hawk did a 900! Tony Hawk did a 900!!!” 😂 what an incredible moment. Fantastic story telling and production work here Chase!
I got goosebumps watching those clips again. I was 9 when I watched him do it live and it literally changed the skateboarding world as we knew it. The sport took off like a rocket after that day.
I'm guessing more of Jason talking about himself as much as he can. In all the best episodes Jason isn't present. I'm so glad Jason wasn't there for the Gonz episode. I suspect Gonz didn't really want to sit down with Jason.
Damn that Pano shot at the end is awesome! That was amazing editing. I can’t wait to see what’s next. I can imagine r this takes awhile to make again awesome work.
7:45 Yes there is, In Baseball 🥲😉 When a Pitcher is having a "No Hitter" and its the 8th and 9th innings, even the opposing team is cheering for the guy and it IS BEAUTIFUL 💪
What a video. It truly made that 900 even more epic. Great story and very well transformed into this clip. I remember the day it happened in 1999, but this flick brought back my memories more alive than ever. Thanks for the time travel. 😍✌🏻

Rodney Mullen’s voice is so calming in interviews
It’s so true
Need him to record some bedtime stories
Someone posted on another video that Rodney could talk about the beautiful way his paint dried and it would be inspirational
Agreed!
For real he talks so poetic, would love some audio books with his voice
This has to be one of the most definitive videos ever produced on the 900. What an unbelievable video to launch a channel with.
That means a ton, thank you!
