Just a bit of information about the Fordamatic on the Y-Block 272 292 and 312 V-8 Fords.
It is actually a 3 speed automatic transmission.
If you put the gear selector into the low position it will drop into low or 1st gear
then putting it back into the drive position it will shift into 2nd and eventually into 3rd.
If the kick down linkage is adjusted correctly and you push the throttle to the
floor instead of taking off in 2nd gear which is normal operation for the Fordamatic
it will immediately drop into 1st gear and probably spin the tires.
Unlike the Chevrolet power glide which is only a 2 speed automatic transmission
the Fordamatic is a 3 speed automatic transmission.
Lots of people drive Fordamatic equipped cars for years and never discover this
feature.
( NOTE ) The Fordamatic in six cylinder vehicles I do not believe has this feature.
I have had 2 Fordamatic equipped 1955 Fords and was quite happy finding this feature.
Also in 1958 the FE series 332 was introduced and it used the new select shift
automatic transmission which functioned as a modern 3 speed automatic transmission.
And it started off in low gear unlike the Fordamatic automatic transmission.

I like it but would have used the factory wheels and covers. However, these do look nice.
