Very informative video explaining why MB upgraded the pan to make more room for filtration with the 3 layer media filter. I have 2 MB's with the early 722.9 transmission and will upgrade to the new pan and filter. Thanks for another great video
@@Mercedessource I look forward to the updated video. I did buy the updated pan and 3 layer filter and installed on my '06 SLK55 AMG for improved filtration.
Kent, OK...I have a question...I remember from days past in my 722.6 trans (2005 E320 CDI, 5 speed version of the 722) the trans fluid level in the trans was considered to be "critical" for proper transmission operation...eg standoff pipe, correct temp...fluid fill plug out until the fluid stopped draining......yada, yada, yada..). OK fast fwd to the 722.9. I agree with all the reasons to go to the deeper pan and the tri-element filter...but I can't seem to "get" the difference for the fluid levels between the standard and deep pans. It seems to me that the standard pan/fill pipe places the trans fluid level somewhere above the pan gasket.....meaning that the valve body may be immersed in trans fluid at the proper level in the standard config. But now with the new pan that has a slightly higher sidewall and a shorter fill pipe this means the trans fluid level is nowhere near above the pan gasket like it was in the std config. I realize that trans fluid expands in volume as its' temp rises but it seems like we are changing the trans fluid level by installing the upgraded pan. Is not the level of the fluid a critical parameter for "proper" performance of the 722.9 like it was in the 722.6....Your thoughts.....
Hi Kent. As always, interesting and informative. Question. Are there cases when you recommend to not flush the transmission? If for example you have a transmission with high miles, and you do not know if the fluid has been changed.
This is a perfect example of "one size does not fit all". There are many variable factors you need to consider to make a blanket statement, and I do not do a pressure flush! I do a "power drain." This will be covered in an upcoming video.
Bought your upgrade video. However, I'm still confused. Are these the correct parts to use in the upgrade for 2007 ML320 CDI? PAN PART# 2222700512 FILTER PART# 2222772800/2222772000 ALSO - as the MB236.14 ATF still needs to be used with the upgraded pan and filter - will that pose a problem for the upgraded filter which is intended for MB236.15?
The description of my upgrade kit will answer most of your questions. If you have a 722.9 7 speed automatic, it will work in your Mercedes. All the correct parts are included in my kit, along with instructions. Here is the link: mercedessource.com/store/early-7229-transmission-upgrade-kit-w-pressure-fill-tank-and-instructions
Good evening, I am writing from Italy, I have been watching your very interesting videos for about six months, as a happy owner of clk a209 200kompressor, (209.442) 06/2003 with 98000km. and automatic transmission, I ask you, is this update only foreseen for the car you presented? Thank you. Waiting for a cordial reply, greetings. Congratulations for the channel. Michele.
This upgrade is only available for the 2003 to mid-2010 7- speed 722.9 transmission. It is not available for the 5-speed 722.6 transmission which I believe your CLK has.
Terrific video, I have a 2007 S550 base without Code A89. Would you know if I can upgrade the pan and filter as well and where can I purchase the materials? Thank you again
I doubt it. They may not even know what you are referring to. If you want to get all the matching correct parts you should just order the kit from me and save too. mercedessource.com/store/early-7229-transmission-upgrade-kit-w-pressure-fill-tank-and-instructions
When buying the 722.9+ filter kit, you get magnets to add into the pan. What do you think about this? Should you put the magnets there or not? My brain says yes, but im not sure.
Let ask you is it right to use a magnetic filter in a w210 transmission in order to reduce damage in it? I saw this filter in the video you made about power steering pump cares
I am totally sold on the "concept," but I am concerned about the attachment method. If it came loose or started to leak you could ruin the transmission. I am working on some ideas now.

So this upgrade kit comes with the Pan and new green tip for the pan? I didn’t see an item description on the link I just read it says it’s needed and when I put it in the cart I’m not able to verify?
I just added a "list" of items included in the product description. That should help. mercedessource.com/store/early-7229-transmission-upgrade-kit-w-pressure-fill-tank-and-instructions

Yes, I am. Will be doing an update video soon.

Excellent video and probably the only one I've seen covering the filter and pan difference of the 722.9 transmission, excellent work!
One of the most informative videos I’ve seen. Thank you
Hats off to you Sir! 👍 Very professional 👏 👌
I bought the upgraded pan and filter on the back of this. makes so much sense - always felt the filter inlet was flawed and sat in the crud
I'm purchasing this complete kit soon. I'm out of town. Thank you and keep em videos coming
Excellent presentation. Love that
HD camera 👍
in my experience working on all types and ages of cars, i absolutely believe on any car you should change your trans fluid every 30 to 40k miles.

capacity doesn't change
Thank you for this input! I was assuming it was for better cooling
Ken, any fixes for the valve body issue? Also the plug issues? This is what did my ML500 in. I miss that truck!
Great video. Really informative.
Glad you enjoyed it!

congratulations with 300k subs :-)

The factory puts magnets in the pan at the factory. That should help make your decision.
