You two got me beat by a year ha ha. Fan since 1982. First song I heard was NOTB and I have been a Maiden and metal fan since. Seing them again live in a few days.

I’m 31 and have been in love with Iron Maiden since I first heard the song number of the beast when I was 14 years old. Maiden has been in my heart since I was I boy. Love your books Ryan. Ego is the Enemy and the Obstacle is the Way are huge inspirations/influences for me. I knew you were a metal head, buts it’s so cool to see this explicit crossover between your work and Iron Maiden. My favorite band of all time. Up the irons brother
Suprised and impressed. I too am an Iron Maiden fan and have been for over 40 years, so many good lessons taught and the reality is, there are lessons in all good things in life. Thank you for finding stoicism in Iron Maiden. A real treat.
Thanks Ryan! I've been listening to Iron Maiden for over 3 decades and over the years it has become an emotional safe harbour for me which has seen me through many of life's storms. Sometime being stoic in the face of adversity is made a bit easier with a bit of help on your side, something that lifts your spirits and helps you keep putting one foot in front of the other. Iron Maiden have been that for me. I continue to listen to them when I need to centre myself and regain emotional strength. I listen to them both in the original as well as instrumental covers like those by Thomas Zwijsen whom I can't recommend highly enough for Maiden fans. He unlocks another dimension of Maiden in my view. Try listening to one of his Maiden covers the next time you spend some time by the fire. It's magical. All Maiden fans around the world are kindred spirits of sorts. Up the Irons!
This is so great. My second year as a Rabbi, I did my Rosh Hashanah sermon on The Jewish Lessons of Rush. I was so proud. Everyone should try combining their passions like this, Ryan
@@RG60Ibanez I was so pleased, but I don't have the sermon notes anymore. I know that I talked about how they never stopped learning, growing, and challenging themselves, for example in La Villa Strangiato, and also the various pseudo-bands they played in together. I’m a metal music fan and a musician. I’ve been watching your videos for a while now and have learned from them, but this one is special. Yeah, this one got me. Thank you!
This is your niche. Please do more of THIS. Love the lessons and how well researched this is. Stoicism is such an adaptive way of being. This I what today’s world needs to know from you.
Funny I'm coming across this video now. Got laid off back in August and have been falling into a deep depression. One of the things that has really brought me happiness recently is discovering new music. I never really got into classic metal. It was just a genre I never got into. I started with Black Sabbath and became a fan over the last few weeks. That led me to check out Iron Maiden's first few albums and I am loving their stuff. I have some of their CDs on the way. Watched a documentary on them and am now a big fan
Listen to the album "somewhere in time" from start to finish, there are no average songs, they are all masterpieces. It is a journey, seemingly a futuristic one
@@Rowlph8888 So...I've listened to Number of the Beast, Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son I. Their entirety. They are all killer
I’ve been a Maiden fan since ‘79 when DiAnno helmed the mic and Clive Burr kept the timing. I don’t think I ever thought of stoicism and Maiden in the same vein. Stories drive great art and Maiden does it in spades. Love this video.
Since their beginnings this band is not been concerned with the opinion of others - they never went commercial and never changed their sound much , despite trends and changes in the genre. Stoic metal at its best - great episode - hard work persistence - put the work in and get results.
@dailystoic (Ryan) I just went to Iron Maiden last week here in Portland OR and brought my Daughter … it was EPIC! I LOVE that Maiden has always been true to themselves and consistently putting out near perfect Metal albums since day one. And you are right Ryan, the music is full of great wisdom, stories and I hear some Stoicism from the lyrics. BTW, you inspired me years ago to wear my Iron Maiden t-shirts at work and on my Zoom calls! ROCK ON brother and Maiden lovers here! 🤘
My uncle baptized me into Maiden as a baby. I have pictures of me as a baby with a Maiden shirt on. He has a ton of rare Maiden stuff. And yes I just sent him this video! 😂 Love that you’re a Maiden fan Ryan!
Been a Maiden fan since the late 80s. I had no idea then that they would still be around now, especially after the "metal recession" of the 90s. They trucked on, did what they did, never sold out or went super-commercial, and the world caught up with them.
I'm not into stoic lessons that much, but I'm a huge Maide fan (especially fanatic when it comes to Bruce Dickisnon). I just wanted to thank you. fanastic video, Ryan. I have a VIP ticket for your talk in Dublin on 15th November, can't wait to see you speak. Been a fan of Iron Maiden since mid 1980s. Their success without much chart success has been incredible. "What's going on in the next field is no concern of ours." Brilliant.
I get to take my 5 year old son to an Iron Maiden concert in 17 days. It will be my 3rd time seeing them and I’m so excited. Maiden has been my favorite band since 7th grade around 2001. Still the best to this day
I first saw Iron Maiden in Columbus, Ohio during the "World Piece Tour" w/ Twisted Sister. A few years ago, my 2 sons said "Dad, you know Iron Maiden is on tour, right?" Next thing I know, we are on our way to Toronto, Canada to see them for their first show. Hope your boy enjoys it Ryan. I bet he will.
Excellent !! Some people complicate too much on their lives. I still enjoy Iron Maiden until today. I love every album. I dont live attached to the past.
I love Iron Maiden. Have been a fan since Seventh Son of a Seventh Son was released. I love how you incorporate Iron Maiden with stoicism. They are definitely quite different than most other metal bands.
Can't express you much I have enjoyed this video. I am a Christian man who also happens to be a long-term Maiden and Stoic philosophy born in the same place (albeit 2 millennia later) as the incredibly talented LA Seneca. Thank you.
I was introduced to Stoicism through the book A Man in Full and was keen to get more information - searching out more about it, I came across a video of you on Joe Rogan's podcast wearing an Iron Maiden T-shirt. It felt like a bit of the cosmos was talking to me at that point - I went to my first Iron Maiden concert in 1984 as a teenager and am still watching them perform live in my 50s. Needless to say, the next day I started reading The Obstacle is The Way - wonderful book - thank you.
Something I would add here that may, perhaps, relate to Stoicism, is that Iron Maiden were pressured quite heavily, as I understand it, to pivot towards punk in their early days, with the idea that it would be easier to get a record deal. It took them a lot longer to get a record deal because they didn't want to deviate from the music that they wanted to create. I wonder how much success they would have achieved had they decided to take the easy path at the beginning and compromise on their music.
That helps me a lot so did an old gent who gives kind of philosophy talks. I try to help people if they are struggling but in one instance I wasn't expecting trouble in return right when my mother was dying!!
well this was interesting. Maiden is amazing, even after 30 years of listening. I also admire Bruce for all those reasons, he is so "big" but is so on the ground. The entire lyrics of 'Wasted Years' talks about living in the present... To me, very stoic...
