Oh man. I just fell in love with that SOO GP30. That is a thing of beauty.

Has anyone ever bought one if these 7.5 inch gauge steam locomotives and found a way to do a roller bearing conversion?? Like in the side rods and all engine tender wheels too.

I’ve always wondered how live steam owners get their trains on and off the rails. I imagine it’s a bit harder than lifting it up and plopping it down on the track.

usually a hydraulic lift (which often doubles as a turntable or transfer table) is used to get them on and off vehicles. Many clubs have sheds where locomotives and cars can be stored so you don't have to deal with the loading/unloading, if you're willing to leave your trains there...

And if you derail out on the line... yeah it gets a bit more interesting the heavier the locomotives get.

Would you happen to know what scale the tanks were on that military train?

All the tanks were 1/8 scale. They were RC ones, that used to be cheaply available. Sadly they're long out of production. Was a fun train to pull.

@@MrRailroadrunner that's really cool. Just for comparison, is that the same scale as the trains? i wanna say they're just a little too big

@@hbissonnette2577 That depends how much you want to split hairs. The engine pulling that train is a 2.5inch to the foot model of an Ingersoll Rand box cab. Not sure why Roll Models choose that scale, as it makes the trucks too small or the body too big. All the cars in that train are 1.5in to the foot. True 1/8 scale is often considered 1.6in to the foot. 2.5in to the foot is normally reserved for narrow gauge, which that box cab definitely isn't.
