- I did a My Little Pony custom ooak doll repaint. In this video you can watch me make a diy doll, I've actually done quite a few doll repaints on my channel. I have a hobby of taking cute things and turning them EVIL- my latest victim being Princess Cadance of the My Little Pony world. I saw @nerdecrafter make MLP custom dolls on her channel (link below) and it made me want to try making a custom pony myself- except of course after the doll customization it’s no longer a pony- it has forgotten it’s past identity and assumed a new, much more EVIL form. I gave it an intense face up and repaint during my doll customization process. If you’re looking for some fun painting projects or maybe some painting crafts for adults I think this will be perfect for you to try out! It’s an easy doll customization building off of my little pony doll as a base. I hope this video sufficiently provides you your horror fix.

This is probably my favorite MLP makeover to date. I'm not sure if its because the quality or if it's because I have a soft spot for derpy creatures. 🤔

Since you asked for MLP advice, I’m gonna give you a crap ton of information because I’ve been collecting for about 10 years now and I have no life 😀
1. It’s important to know what gen exactly you want to roll with customizing. Gen 1 (1982-1992ish) uses the softest plastic of all main-line ponies. They also have a wide variety of poses. They’re cheap to get in “bait lots” on eBay. Bait means that they’re in bad condition (paint scuffs, cut hair, tail rust, etc) so they’re perfect for customizing. No need to feel guilty about “destroying” a pony when they’re already in bad condition. You can only improve! :) the only downside of g1 is that they are unable to move their heads...THAT IS UNLESS YOU CUT THEIR HEADS OFF (however I’ll talk about that more I’m the customizing section). G1 are also some of the biggest ponies, with g1 baby ponies averaging in size to about the size of normal adult g4 ponies.
G2 Ponies were only released for a brief period in the 90s and aren’t as popular. I wouldn’t recommend customizing them as a lot of them had a lot more gimmicks which can make the process a little harder, plus they don’t show up often in bait lots. Their plastic is not as soft as G1 ponies. I personally prefer their sculpts more as they’re lankier and more elegant I guess, but to each his own. If you were to customize one I’d suggest doing research to make sure you aren’t accidentally customizing a rare one. They also have a lot of poses but not nearly as many as g1.
G3 ponies were released around the end of the 90s to about 2008 ish. To my knowledge they are the hardest plastic ponies although they may be tied with g4.5/Pony life (the generation your Princess Cadence is). These ponies are bigger once again, about the size of a g1, sometimes smaller, and are notoriously hard to customize due to their hard plastic bodies. However they also come in a wide range of poses like g1. The catch? Majority of poses are earth pony exclusive. There are a few Pegasus and unicorn poses, but the majority of g1 was earth ponies so that’s most likely what you’ll get. G3 was really popular and are usually easy to find in bait lots.
G4 was around 2010-2016ish. They’re some of the smallest ponies and barely have any poses. Their bodies are a softer plastic than g3 and g2, but not nearly as soft as g1. G4 are also a big harder to customize as they have a neck plug which I’ll dive into more in the customizing section. G4 are also easy to get in bait lots, especially of the main 6 since they were produced so often.
G4.5 is the kind of pony you had in your last customizing video. They have a more rounder head than g4, but come in more poses. Their bodies are also pretty soft plastic in my experience, about on par with g4. They’re probably easy to get cheap as they were only released recently (last 3-4ish years to about last year) and are even still being sold in some stores. They also have a bit more poses than g4 but nothing compared to g1, g3, or even g2.
Pony life is the kind that your princess cadence was in this video. They’re meant to be more like bobble heads. They have super hard plastic bodies and are a lot harder to customize. However they are whats currently being sold atm so you can go to any store and pick them up.
Now that we have the generations out of the way, let’s move on to customizing tips, yaaaaaay:
When customizing a g1 specifically, it’s important to know exactly what you want to do. Oftentimes, you might want to cut off its head to make sure there’s no buts of rusty washer (whats used to keep their tails in place) broken down inside of the pony, this is especially important if they have tail rust as there’s a 85% chance that washer has disintegrated. This process will also make it easier to take the tail out if you’re only going to do sculpted tails. However, the process needs to be done carefully or you can rip the vinyl of the neck.
Dunk the pony’s head in boiling water. *THIS CAN BE DONE ON ALL PONIES TO SOFTEN THEIR PLASTIC* Dunking their head in the boiling water will help soften the glue used to attach their head. Carefully cut on the seam using an exacto knife. Slow and steady wins the race as if you’re too hasty you can rip the neck! Once you remove the head, you can easily take a pair of pliers or tweezers and remove the tail, pulling it out through the neck hole. Along with this you can look and see if there’s any bits of rust. While the head is detached, you can cut the hair off and then use the tweezers/pliers to remove the hair stubs from the head. This will ensure no hair left inside the head. However you can still just choose to cut the hair, shave, and sculpt over if the hair nubs don’t bother you.
That’s pretty much all you need to know for g1. For certain G1 you’ll have to glue the head back on the neck and it won’t be able to move, however for a lot you can just pop the head back on as there will be a little plug like structure already built on the head. Now your pony can move it’s head!
I’m not sure a whole lot about how to customize g2, so I’m sure you can find a guide online. G3 is the same as g1 for the most part, although you’ll probably have to use a lot more boiled water since they’re harder!
G4 is a lot of the same except most of the time you don’t need a knife to rip their heads off. Just dunk their head in boiling water and use force and it’ll pop off, however there’s something different. G4 (and g4.5 I believe) will have a neckpeck built into the *body.* this is so they can move their heads. Carefully, head the area up with boiling water and use an exacto knife to cut it out. You have to be careful so you can glue it back in afterwards so your pony can move it’s head again. Once you cut and remove the neck peg out, you can access the tail and pull it out since again with tweezers. G4 heads are super small tho, so it’s very hard to pull out the hairs in the head. It can be done but you need a lot of patience. It’s impossible to do on g4.5 without cutting the inner circle on the head and it’s just a big mess. I’d recommend just cutting the head hair as short as possible and sculpting over it. Only try to get the hair out of the head holes if you want to do a re-root.
As far as I know, it is impossible to do this to Pony Life dolls as they have the neck peg. You seemed to handle it well on your own, however if you seriously want to take the tail out, try finding a guide online.
