So innocent and demure looking, and then you put your hands on the piano and play like the Tasmanian Devil and the whirling dervishes all put together. Whee!
Mille bravos !
With a thumbnail of Stephanie Trick playing something by James P. Johnson I knew to expect something energetic....but this starts rolling right out the gate. This piece fascinated me so much I immediately listened to the original and then again watched Stephanie's version. While I like Stephanie's version better I must admit to not being objective. James P. Johnson's version (that he wrote) is very powerful and a very heavy touch. (Nonetheless, a masterpiece....the fact that "(The music is synced to a trolley ride down Market St. in San Francisco circa 1905.) gives further interest since I grew in San Francisco). Stephanie's version uses a very sensitive touch that doesn't bowl you over but gives rise to shifts and dynamics allowing for the frenetic parts to really stand out...in my very humble opinion.
Stephanie , you are above Perfection when Performing . I’ve been watching you for a long time and you’re Magnificent. I have a favorite if that’s possible. When you and Dick Hyman performed together . “ I’ll See You in My Dream’s “ . We can hardly see you but it’s a great video of your music. Maybe it’s just a favorite song L.o.l. Anyway ,I can’t get enough of it. Stay happy . Love listening to you and Paolo together . Have a great day. Love and Hug’s. ♥️🥰Chris. ♥️🎶🥀🎶♥️
Hello, I discovered this wonderful channel yesterday, listening to the sublime "Tornerai". I swear, you put on a show! So I thought of two songs that would be a huge hit in his magical hands; they are: "Mr. Sandman" and "On a Bicycle For Two". Happiness and sucess!
You've got it all going for you. Very appealing looks, very nice manner and humble but uber-robust musicality. I'm so impressed by those long arms and hands with the miracle spiders spinning webs of delight for us. "My early solo version" indeed. Out of the world of us mortals. Enjoy watching and learning what we can from watching you.
This is right up there with Jim Turner and the composer's original, but also unique in a wonderfully intriguing way! Love it! Thank you for sharing your amazing skills.
Thankfully he DID get to experience that. Here is one of the versions he was privileged to hear: th-cam.com/video/vOiHpMN5JNE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=gMocfg5r24wwdV4N
Thank you for this link! I did not know this recording. Nevertheless: I find the version by James P. Johnson (i.e. his own interpretation) technically brilliant and rapidly played, but uninspired and actually soulless. In contrast, Stephanie Trick plays relaxed, with verve and emotion. Definitely outstanding, in my opinion.@@johnandmarie7250
@@theomichaelschmitt8867 you prefer her version. Fair enough she is a master pianist and a joy. However your inference that JPJ, the composer of the tune and a pioneer of the style, was NOT a master pianist is a bit rough. His version was recorded late in his life after a stroke and other setbacks, on a questionable instrument using period gear and techniques. He influenced Duke, Basie, Tatum, Waller, Monk, et al. He wrote The Charleston for heaven’s sake! A true and indisputable American Master.
Dear johnandmarie, thank you for your feedback. Again: I did not know the circumstances of J.P.J.'s recording. I did by no means intend to say that he was NOT a master pianist. If I gave this impression, I apologise. I should rather have said "his version SOUNDS ... uninspired" etc. @@johnandmarie7250
As much as I admire your piano skills, it's a tragedy that you don't sing as much - because on the rare occasions I've heard you sing, you have a voice that blends your own cute innocence with the warmth of Diana Krall, the charm of Katie Melua & the edgniness of Madeleine Peyroux. I challenge you to do a jazz vocal by this time next year. Merry Christmas.
Holy Moly! This is just crazy good! Such speed, accuracy and wonderful sound!! You and Paolo have been busy lately posting so many videos lately...seems like every few days.
Just wow! I love your solos because I get to see how brilliant a pianist you are in your own right. BTW, do you and Paolo record a whole batch of these in one go and then post up one a week, or do record a new one each week?
Brilliant! How do you do the left hand notes so accurately? I’ve played the Over the Bars by PJ Johnson but I can’t get it quick and accurate like you. You’re both phenomenal!
I’m sure, somehow, that you played Caprice Rag faster than JPJ, and Dick Hyman. It’s lovely to see you play closeup Stephanie! I’m worn out just watching😂
'Writing a song about stride piano, Isn't all that easy to do. You gotta dive in, but where to begin? The mere idea might frighten you. Writing lyrics to stride music, you're in trouble right away. It's fast and busy, it'll make you dizzy, spitting out what you need to say!'
Great Stephanie! 🎹 👍
Clapping my hands and cheering.
Fantastique, brillant, joyeux nous en voulons encore d’autres comme ce rag. Merci
One word somes this up. Phenomenal!
Surely all of us who love to hear the piano are truly enjoying your playing. Vote #10.
So innocent and demure looking, and then you put your hands on the piano and play like the Tasmanian Devil and the whirling dervishes all put together. Whee!
Spot-on comment!!!
Wow! Go magic fingers. James Johnsons is beaming with pleasure. Thanks, Steph.
Good version, with a very delicate and classy feminine touch, bravo...
Love this !

Sempre strepitosa Stephanie!

Extraordinary talent! But I cannot imagine the time she has devoted to the piano over many years. Thank you, Stephanie, for doing this for us.

What a joy and what a delight! Oh, if only James P. Johnson experienced what a master pianist can do with his composition.
Thankfully he DID get to experience that. Here is one of the versions he was privileged to hear:

I can`t say more than I have often said, but I must say it again: wonderful!
You are the master! Plus the new do is cute AF.
You have no idea how difficult this is to play, james p was something else, and i suppose so is Trick!
Applause Fabulous! .More applause.
I'm more partial to James P Johnson than Joplin. Works like this one are more in the piano novelty genre. Great playing at 1/4 note =220. 3:07
Outstanding ❤🎉
Impressive performance. I'm in awe
Her brain is definitely different to mine in being able to control our hands doing complementary but different things.👏👏👏
Super !!! Wojtek, Polen.
This young lady does a wonderful job n the 88.
Since 20 years.
Great performance! I have a request... Desecration Rag. It's a really fun "modern" rag, funny and very... desecrating ;)
