Sony Alpha Firmware: How To Update, Install on a7II, a7RII, a7SII, a6300, a6500, a9

- How to update your Sony alpha mirrorless camera to the latest firmware, version (respective of camera) 4.0, 1.04, 1.10 on Mac OS.
*Performed on a 2nd generation Sony alpha series camera.
(a6300, 6500, a7II, a7RII, a7SII a9)

Make sure:
*Make sure your camera has a fully charged battery.
*Remove all SD cards.
*Tool Menu, page 4: Set USB function to: Mass Storage.
*Use Sony provided USB cable.
**Note: Start firmware software update BEFORE connecting camera to PC via USB.

+1. Generic (thin and cheap) USB cable gave me a connection issue message. Better cable (does thick necessarily mean better?!), and it worked like a charm.

I can't get it to work tried few different cables..are you guy's on latest Mac osx 11? And are you using regular usb or micro USB?

Hey Sonny! It only resets your picture profiles, everything else should stay the same.
Can i use my phone to download the firmware for the upgrade of sony a7rii before use my computer to install

Is the Sony A7 not supported anymore? I click the download button on Sony's website for the ILCE-7 model, but nothing happens. Other downloads work for other models, but not the A7.
why it cannot be done directly from camera? I have access to internet vie camera.

Hi!I own a a7m2 and I am verry pleased with it.It's ok if I leave it without the update ?
You may miss out on some newer features like faster more accurate autofocusing, better battery life and SD card compatibility issues. For the most part you'll be fine, but I'd recommend updating if it's not too much trouble for you!

Hi Timothy, the firmware version number is camera model specific, for example the A7RII is on v 4.0, the A6500 is on v 1.04. Hope that helps!

Tough one, I can’t tell you exactly what to do. But personally, I’d wait it out for as long as you can. If necessary power the camera off before you unplug it.

Hey there, the latest firmware version for the A7 is v3.2 released in July 2016. Each camera model has their respective FW version! Same process to update! Good luck

No there's no way to install it, but you're not missing out on much, so I wouldn't worry!
Mine stopped (A7iii - 4.01) after 20 min. around 90 percent of the green bar. Now my camera remains still with a red light at the bottom of the back.

That sounds like a hardware issue on the camera side. Either a bad port or you’re using wrong cables. Try to get your hands on the Sony cable.
Mines wont get pass the restarting your camera part. It cuts off but never cuts back on. Then it says “could not update” why??? A7Rii
Hey Antuan, what "restarting" are you talking about? Like after you're done installing the firmware update?
ARXV Photo no in the process of installing that middle part where its suppose to restart your camera.... that part.
I see. If you're using the included Sony cable, and your battery is fully charged, the only issue I see is that you may have downloaded firmware for the wrong camera, OR your firmware file maybe corrupted. Delete that file, re-download it and give it another try. Let me know how it goes!

I'm having the same problem. MacBook Pro (mid 2012) i7, 8gig DDR3 OS vr 10.13.3
The Sony SystemSoftwareUpdater freezes after you click the first "Next" the camera info never shows up in the bottom left and just continues with buffer wheels.
I hope this will fix it...
