Here in the States, they did re-air the race in full (sans red flags) that night at about 2am on ESPN2. Managed not to spoil the end for myself & watched it the next day! 😁 Also, fun fact; that same rain ended up shortening that day's NASCAR race at Michigan Int'l Speedway by about 40 laps.
Weirdly I remember from this race is gidley’s accident, but not the track river or massive delay. Though I do remember junquiera getting a win in his first season in circumstances helped by the timing of the final safety car, think he was nowhere before?
Oh yeah, THAT race... I remember it well. I was aghast as how they actually sterted the race with that river/lake flowing across the track at the fastest section of the circuit.
what happened during the race is scary and all, but the ultimate horror and uncanny valley is seeing Eurosport and ESPN logos at the same time on screen
It's amazing to see the track from 20 years ago and see how it's changed, and improved. That part of track where the "lake" was is at the carved out of a large hillside and water running dow the hill was a problem for a long time. Combined with the shade in that area, its still the last part of the track to dry, but hasn't been lake-ish in a while.
Honestly most racing series nowadays wouldn't have the balls to even start the race in those conditions... Really fucking sad as wet racing usually produces unpredictable moments
Ott Tänak at the Rally Mexico in 2015. Broke the front right suspension on a rock earlier in the stage and when he came up to that corner it let go completely causing him to go straight into the lake. Both he and his co-driver Martin Järveoja managed to escape the car unhurt. M-Sport (His team at that point) managed to rescue the car and rebuild it completely which meant he could re-start the rally on the next day. Edit. Actually i just remembered it wasnt Järveoja back then, it was Raigo Mölder.

Can't believe the season CART had in 2001. Everything possible seemed to go wrong.
It really was one of those seasons where Murphy's law was in full effect.
Brazil and Texas were cancelled, Toyota and Honda announced they were leaving the series, penske left at the end of the season, Zanardi's accident 😢.
