They did a great job with the art and vibe, it's terrifying trying to imagine this but 3d or on real life and first person.
Not to detract from the beautiful visuals and score, but the notion of narrating games like this drives me up the wall. Example: at 3:30 the game stops you dead in your tracks to show you that this giant turns this big ol' hand crank. It then tells you that that's what it's meant to do, as if it weren't visibly obvious. In fact. this seems to be a common theme throughout the game so far. It has stunning visuals, which appear to be lovingly hand-drawn, and they offer enough detail that you can easily glean what's happening just from looking at it. However, instead of leaning into this strength, it seems the developers aren't certain it's enough, so they attempt to solve this problem by literally stopping your progress just to tell you what you're looking at. Another example: 10:40 you come across a Sperm Whale that is clearly dead. Instead of letting you explore this grisly scene, the game stops you to say: "The beast is dead." It's unnecessary and frankly insulting. What this eventually results in is a game that, whilst pretty to look at, has no real substance in terms of actual play-value. Most of this video is spent being stopped and talked at, and this is no more evident than the fact that 'Part 1' of Act 1 is just shy of 10 minutes worth of walking to turn a crank and move on. All of the lore is delivered through narration, as if it's a novel, which makes no sense, because the medium being used to tell the story is a visual one. It feels as if the developers weren't confident in their ability to create a platform puzzler, so instead decided to pad the runtime with forced stoppages and pointless narration.
