I paused this video halfway when I heard about writing. I began to write down an issue I have with the Christian church. Though a Christian, I have issues with how Christians(as a community) react to certain type of people. Therefore, I wrote pages about an argument that should be more contemplated before jumping into ridiculing individuals which end up repelling them away from the core of our belief. I am unsure if that made sense but it is definitely a powerful thing to write because I think I just came up with a perspective that no body in the church could actually argue with. I won’t be able to tell many because they think so black and white. However, if one is interested in it, now I have an amazing insight to share.
This is why I really appreciate my graduate school education, which happened at a time when universities were still educating people. My graduate mentor told me once, "You'll never realize how much or little you understand something, until you have to write it." That is absolutely the case and is a good case for the why to write. You write because that will illuminate your true understanding of the topic.
True man, and my problem which still persists that i dont like to write as I am lazy.Even studied maths without writing much but only reading it and understanding the problem,Which actually led to lower grades which could have been great if i really practise them
A Better idea than taking notes in class is to write, for 10-30 minutes, all of your thoughts after the class is over, reflecting on the lessons and putting it into your own thoughts
@@bp5558 The only problem is, most teachers at my school suck at teaching. They are like not dedicated to teach. They just explain the point without even trying to make the students understand. It's annoying. The only one that I, as far as I know, teaches us properly is my science teacher.
Haven’t been told that enough times to remember I need to learn how to think by improving my writing skills. Thank you Doctor. Your a reminder to do better and give good solutions to impossible problems.
This comment made me realize one of the main reasons my thinking skills have improved while I see my social circle still argue and analyze stuff like they did 5 years ago.
This was something I struggled with in school as a kid, I could never understand why we was having to do what we was doing in most classes. The teachers were just going through the motions, when I asked the teachers they would say you need to do this to get good grades, and you need good grades to get a good job. If they had just told me what Jordan said, it would have made everything a lot clearer but they failed to communicate properly and treated me like a silly child that should just shut up and copy down what's on the board end of.
I remember being the student who challenged my teachers and professors. Healthy challenges that didn't diminish the actual point, it was just another observation into the same truth. I always had a hard time and was made to be a trouble maker. The system does not encourage independent thinking. Follow the orders, move by the syllabus..
The fun thing is that in my college, these students are rightfully celebrated by teachers. My teacher gets frustrated when students act like puppets, without any doubts or arguments.
Same here.. I was called stupid, and told I would never amount to anything which as a young child actually stuck in my head and destroyed most of my dreams and desires. I still have issues with it as I feel everything I do is subpar. Even though I'm a twice honor graduate from trade schools in a highly complex and skilled trade. I was even kicked out of high-school because I asked to my questions and made my teacher explain things I wasn't comprehending.
I can see this sort of philosophy in high school teachers, but I think most professors encourage any questions that lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter (as long as it's a small enough class to facilitate questions).
Came in Germany if you want to be independent thinker they will let you do alone the whole studying they should just give you one question and you have to make a whole research and do your own thinking 🤔 stuff. Later on they will give you the right answer so you can see what you thought and how the reality is. Hope you are doing fine around where you are sending you love and good vibes
The system is not making entrepreneurs, it’s trying to make workers. And a smart worker will find work elsewhere most of the time. This is our current paradox. Governed by greed.
Playing the market blindly or solely of technical analysis is a big risk. This video goes to show the essence of discipline alongside professional advice relative to build and creating long lasting wealth.
Right! mostly because professionals manage most of these tactics and loopholes better. I was able to scale from $35K to 65K this crash by following my coach's advice.
@@bradsandler3526 People always struggle with the blatant impulse to want to do things themselves while forgetting that there is a process. Direction and fundamental information cannot be missed, which is why you end up getting lost in the market noise (consolidation) or disregarding some crucial elements that affect how each asset performs. The markets are more than just technicals, and stocks largely follow the fundamentals.
This video makes me realize how lucky I am to be in sales and system design. Everyday I meet new people, see new challenges, and design new systems. My livelihood is directly tied to me creating the best solutions and my ability to understand what someone wants.
"Why" is the one answer I see mostly underserved in any aspects of life. And answers like "well, because we did it like that" is not an answer. Its just an reassuring for the person to be right about what they do. The real way to explain a "why" is to take the topic, lay it out, explain the important aspects for the question and conclude with a logic outcome. Doing all this while making sure that figuring the "why" out helps the person to have less "why's" in the future. Teach them to think for themselfs. Great Video!
I had a teacher in high school tell me that I was in class to learn how to learn regardless of the topic or subject. We were also told if we could master inane topics we would have no problems exploring fields or subjects that would project our careers or interest. It is a way of thinkings and explaining education that should be instilled early as possible.
Case in point; The Iraq War There were 2 main figureheads that pushed for this war, Tony Blair and George Bush. One is seen an incompetent buffoon and the other a war criminal.
I have to thank my Mom for this ability. when I was younger I thought my mom was the most powerful being when it came to arguing.. it just felt impossible to win and her famous quote "bring your A game" always pissed me write off LOL I guess that drove me to want to eventually outsmart her, now 28 before anyone tries to argue with me, I or anyone who knows me is around will chuckle say "you better bring your A game" Thanks Ma
I relate. My father was a writer. I was a professional writer/editor. Neither of us became "dangerous" (powerful) with those skills; however, one of my career joys was editing and rewriting the work of others, at least demonstrating to them how they could think more critically when writing.
As Dr Peterson pointed out so eloquently: The best way to be 'dangerous' is to be precise in your language. It starts with your ability to think deeply, then continues with your adequate expression of those thoughts: Requiring decent a skill level both in writing and oratory. My personal take-aways are to get back into Toastmasters and to start a blog or joining a sort of platform where I can share my ideas.
Sticking to moral principals and striving for the greater good makes you the most powerful force in the world and any one attempting to contradict you fears you like they are nothing. So to outsmart anyone, be in the right.
Problem is of course, that a lot of SJW actually do think they hold the higher moral ground. Which they very seldom do. It makes them even more cocky and insufferable.
I feel this. I am Danish and could speak and write coherend English at the age of 6. My English teacher from 3rd till 7th grade always dismissed me and wrote me off when I corrected her on grammar and so such, revealing that she indeed was part of the "Don't think for yourself, just learn what I tell you to learn" mindset of teachers...
And how do you know, that you leaned it right yourself and wasn't 'correcting' the teacher, based on flawed English yourself? Not arguing. Just asking.
@@gardenjoy5223 well I'm 27 now, so I grew up in the golden age of gaming, which definitely helped me learn proper grammar (not to say I don't make mistakes from time to time if it's a word I barely ever use, or if I'm simply writing fast and don't properly check my grammar. For example I can see I did some pretty basic mistakes in my previous comment, but I mean, I'm also not educating an entire class right now :p) But I remember it being stuff like Color/Colour, where i would have to tell my teacher that either is correct, depending on if youre writing English or american-english, and considering a LOT of people from my generation are mostly met by American-english due to pop culture, i voiced that its kinda ridiculous to say only British-english (or do they call it Cambridge-english now?) is correct
Your insights on the necessity of learning to write as a means to enhance thinking really resonated with me. I completely agree that writing is a crucial tool for effective communication and success in life. The analogy about being armed with a 'sword' or 'bulletproof vest' is particularly striking; it emphasizes how essential clear expression is in navigating the challenges we face. It’s frustrating that this isn’t more emphasized in our education systems, but your message empowers us to take charge of our learning. Great. Can you tell me what your own blinders are? No, you can't. That's why they are called blinders. But it is wise to assume others look at you and are shaking their head about your blinders too. Humility is a true virtue. More of a job, than what you described here.

This is true. My son in the 5th grade, would cut corners and finish an assignment in a 1/3 of the time it took the rest of the class for most of his 5th grade grade. At conferences, teacher told me, he doesn’t follow directions and uses his free time reading the wimpy kid books. He’s always questioning things. After conferences I sided with my kid.
When I was in high school I taught myself TI-BASIC, the top level programming language of TI graphing calculators. I wrote all kinds of programs, one of which automated the solving of quadratics because I found them tedious and pointless, and I was far more likely to make a mistake by doing them manually. One day, the entire 90 minute class was just a test on quadratics. So I spent the first ten minutes programming the provided calculator, and then the next 10 minutes blowing through the test. Enter A, B, and C, it would spit out the positive and negative values, press another key and it would draw the graph. I was accused of cheating. I explained myself but the teacher didn't believe that I wrote and memorized the program. I wasn't out of trouble until I got an opportunity to sit there under supervision with a notebook and a pen, and I wrote the whole program out on paper, with comments, and able to explain exactly what each line did and why. And even then, instead of praise, I was met with anger, disapproval, and vitriol. Ended up with a D- on that test even though every answer was precisely correct because I didn't do it the way I was "supposed" to. It was one of the best and worst experiences of my life. My big takeaway was that teachers especially don't like students that are smarter than them. I was flabbergasted that an adult math teacher didn't understand a FOR loop, let alone IF THEN statements. It broke my spirit, I stopped attending a lot of classes, opting instead to go skateboard and smoke weed and fool around with girls and just take the punishment that would ensue. It was far less grief than arguing with idiot teachers.
@@nutbastard I mean the answer is just 1 point. The process on paper is where you get most of the points. If you only write the answer of course you will get a bad grade. This how the correction is set because if you do a error by taping the calcul on your calculator you will at lest get the points from what you wrote on paper.
@@appl3thegr3at64 Eh, I learned more that day about real life and human psychology than maybe any other day in my life. It wasn't the lesson the teacher intended to teach me, but it was the better lesson to learn. The only thing that pissed me off about the whole situation is that what I was doing was not a shortcut. It required a complete understanding of the math to be able to write that program from memory. So it was revealed to me that learning wasn't the point of school. The actual point was obedience training, was to instill some sort of sick blind reverence for authority. Yeah, no, I'm cool off that, I'd rather go skateboarding.

Bitcoin price has been fluctuating lately and it's very frustrating to those who buy and hold.. The good thing about this space is that you can buy the dips and put them into active trades while waiting for a pump in price because it is inevitable. Price will go up and down but the market has been so profitable despite price up and down. As for me I have been trading with a professional trader who trades on my behalf and has the required skills and experience and it has been profiting.
It's obvious a lot of people will give up on crypto trading and investment due to the dip but you all will remain poor if you don't take risks and know that no successful and wealthy personality made it to the top with just a one income stream or without risks.

I’m 21 and when I used to attended elementary I had a thing for reading books, mystery, non fiction and sometimes Harry Potter books. we were learning in English class we would do Popcorn reading and eventually it was my turn to read out loud from a textbook. As I read the teacher interrupted me two separate times to tell me to read with less emotion. Ever since I honestly haven’t read a book without a purpose, or just for fun. Growing up at home in my room I had a large bookshelf where I had text books and small chapter books. I enjoyed reading but after the teacher had told me that, I felt like I was reading wrong. And I can’t get over that, I know because I’ve been interested in books and I’ve managed to build a tiny library in my phone. However, I don’t read the books due to the fact that when I try it reminds me of what the teacher told me and I can’t continue to read the book without feeling like I’m reading wrong. I’ve told a few people about this but it didn’t change anything within myself. I do wonder if I’ll get over that feeling and manage to read a full book how I want just for myself without any judgment. I dropped out of college at 19 and I live by myself til this day. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

@@Al-eo2li we all have our flaws. I wouldn't expect to be hunted down with such animosity for them. Not when the core of my character is directed towards the good.
@@McCumbo Depends on what you consider good. I see good in Peterson and also see his flaws. I suggest you test your faith in him and actually see why he is hated. I love his takes and messages on Individuality and the promotion of it. Theres so much more I like about him, and his words have indeed helped me. But I also understand why he is hated.
I personally think that he is attacked so viciously because he has had the courage to speak about a great many things that people nowadays would rather not see, hear, or even perceive. He indeed has flaws, a great many I'm sure, as any human being in this world. There is a saying here in Mexico, which is where I'm from: "tapar el sol con un dedo/ to cover the sun with a finger". It basically means that someone chooses not to acknowledge a reality they know exists simply because they don't like it, or maybe because it is very painful, or for many other reasons, but the core of the saying is still the same regardless: not *wanting* to see the truth. And for all his faults, I think Dr. Peterson tries his best to speak with truth. He has said so himself in some interviews, 12 Rules for Life are primarily directed at him, he is the practitioner of a set of rules that he himself compiled to try to put his life in order (in the sense of living the best way he knows and understands how) and to try to get many people to do the same, in their own way, shape or form. I think he is attacked because, the only way to live such a life, is by admitting to oneself first of all that we are indeed flawed and not as good as we would like to think we are. I have seen this in my own personal practice as a clinical psychologist. The only way one can truly change their own life is by seeking their own personal truth, finding the good and the bad, and learning to deal with both in the most humane way possible in service, first of one's self, and by consequence in service of others. Unfortunately, and again this is my own opinion, we are living in a world where many don't assume their own personal responsibility, and a great many people are confused, hurt and unfortunately are hurting others as well. I personally admire Dr Peterson because of his courage and his attempts of working in the service of "goodness" regardless of what personal interpretation we can give to such a word.

I can see this sort of philosophy in high school teachers, but I think most professors encourage any questions that lead to a deeper understanding of the subject matter (as long as it's a small enough class to facilitate questions).

Crypto and Forex trading is the easiest way to get out of poverty if you know your way around it.
You explain things in such an approachable way.
A historical person that made me realize the power of the pen was Martin Luther King Jr. I think he has some of the most beautiful work, and for a cause as well.
If you think MLKJ was great you should read the guy he stole it from 😂

The title of the video is How to Outsmart Everybody Else. I was here to listen to the answer. Instead, the video is talking about something completely different. It’s about the education system, writing, and it touched on critical thinking but I didn’t learn how to outsmart anyone.
Just because it’s a good video doesn’t mean it’s not a disappointing one. It’s not titled conveniently.
@America First Patriot I just hope you do realize this isn't Peterson's page, just somebody else using Peterson's lectures to make his own video.
The answer as I understand from the video is to learn writing. Writing requires critical thinking and it is a positive feedback loop. Sharpened critical thinking outsmarts others whose thinking is not up to that level.
I LOVE JORDAN PETERSON! He is so very inspirational.
"It's not how many times you fall, it's how many times you will stand up again"
Translation- "How to make people think you're outsmarting them"
this. The titles of these self-help/motivation type videos are bad at communicating the actual good points in the video. One doesn't want to outsmart, one should be okay to look like the idiot. It's never about winning, it's about figuring out what you can.
Its just going to make people believe, after watching a video of a mid lecture off topic rant, that they are smarter than everyone around them
Guy spends more time pressing his ideology on the class than teaching them apparently
@@whomadethis616 Peterson? Not so much. His lectures are typically on beat with actual information as opposed to solidified views. His opinion mixes in of course, but he has some valid points.
@@whomadethis616 He's saying to be articulate... A university prof telling students to be articulate. This is not an ideology.
I don’t need to outsmart a bunch of biblicists. You do all the work for me thanks never gets old.
You are an amazing person!! I love to write, come back few days realize I need to rewrite my story in different places. Make it something that reach out for the reader just never could explain it.
I also have been heart broken when a intelligent person speaks to you then you read something they wrote and it's awful just scares me to death
What?
I wish I had this guy as a teacher in my younger years, maybe my life won't not be as hard as it is today ..
this was a good one but he's not always right... far from it
Ty Mr. Peterson..you have honestly helped me change my life for the better..I am eternally grateful.
The way teachers get you back for challenging a university's overall ideology is to give you lower grades. That scares a lot of students into compliance.
Where’s your source for that

this reminds me of the time when I solved this math problem on a test, even though we came to the same conclusion, my pattern was different (still in accordance with the theories) to which the professor said "why couldn't you just follow my way, it's much easier and that's how it's done on the textbook"
It had such a negative implication on how I viewed the subject and ended up unintentionally mugging up the SAME solutions almost everytime
smh
are you an Indian too? The same thing happened to me till 10th, and then when I started to prepare for JEE, everything came back to normal.

"If your students are not challenging you. They are stupid and they aren't learning at all"
Well, I don't see what makes a good challenge stupid. Most students just do what they're told and never learn to ask questions about why they're doing what they're doing. To me, I only see greatness towards stupid people who challenge societal norms. 1 good example is naruto.
@@leonardartorius2519 that's great friend! Well I said students so they are stupids for that specific Teacher becausez that Teacher has only mastered one subject. They can be intelligent to another teacher or the rest of the world. 😇
