    I’m 12 and today was my first time riding and we went out on the roads. There was me and 4 others (including the owner) I had one person lead the horse and one walking next to me. It was a bit scary at first and hopefully this video will help me for next time! ♥️

    i’ve needed this so much. the horse i currently ride (her name is ellie) has shaken my confidence. i’ve been riding western basically my entire life and i recently started riding english a couple months ago. ellie has challenged me a lot in the last few months and i’ve fallen off of her a lot recently and now i’m less confident with her which makes my riding worse. thank you so much for this 💛

    i haven’t ridden in a month or so and last time i rode i had a bit of a scare (not the horses fault, but i felt ill and like i was gonna pass out) and now i’m really anxious and struggling to get the motivation to get back on, i’m just scared that it will happen again ! :( x

    Hi!! Today i fell off my horse when i was doing a 2 foot oxer, and obviously my horse did not trust me anymore because i threw me shoulders forwards and did a summer-salt off her neck and when i tried again i kept on having a bunch of refusals and even my trainer got on my horse and still had refusals (And my trainer competed in the olympics) i feel like i just destroyed my horse😔
    Now i feel super discouraged and disappointed in myself. Do you have any advice??!!

    • @EquestrianPrep
      @EquestrianPrep  7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You did not destroy your horse, it was just a bad ride. Just keep trying and working with your trainer!

    my fear has been here for awhile and it’s breaking me. horses are my life. i’ve come a long way since the fall that caused my fear. and now i realize my fear is not of riding but of jumping. idk i just feel like everything will go wrong if i jump, ya know?

    • @jennypinion276
      @jennypinion276 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same! I’ve been riding for 11 years and started jumping 1 year ago. Every single time before a jump I hesitate! It’s so bad!!! I think it’s because I want to be in control and find my own distance so I hold back because I’m scared of long / short spots. I cant ever tell what my horse is going to do 😩

    Awesome video!!! One tip I have about being confident after a fall is to kind off (as long as you aren't hurt!) brush off the fact that you fell, that might sound like a bad idea, but I really find it's best to just get back on right away and do the jump again or whatever it was. But it's also very important to first realize WHY you fell and how to make sure that doesn't happen again. For instance, yesterday I was doing grid work on a very stubborn, hot pony that will take ANY excuse to stop. I kept putting my hands down and dropping my shoulder too early, so she would stop. I went over her head and landed on the jump. LUCKILY, I wasn't hurt at all! So I got back on right away and did the grid again. I knew I fell because this particular pony doesn't allow tipped shoulders, so I made sure to carry my hands above her withers right until we were in the air for a release.

    Recently, I had a fall on a horse called Gerry and it really knocked my confidence. So I made the mistake of not jumping for a couple of months. I went back into jumping again and I just fell off straight away I just couldn’t get the strides in or anything and it makes me really upset to think I used to be jumping 1m etc and now I can’t even jump a cross pole

    This video was really helpful I’ve been riding for 7 years but recently switched to a knew barn witch allowed me to jump properly and I have been recently getting quite good and am starting som proper shows in small classes but yesterday I didn’t fell like I couldn’t ,d jump and I was only jumping some cross poles as warm up and I did flat for the rest of the lesson and today I freaked out agin but managed to jump very low compared to normal. On Saturday I got bucked and bolted with but didn’t fall of so now I’m paranoid my luck was to much and I will fall of and I can’t jump as-well anymore even though it was real random

    A few years ago I was not scared to fall and jumped everything that was put up. But since I fell off my horse at a track and could not ride a month, I got scared. I didn’t notice but I froze when the horse I rode on went ‘to’ hard in galop even if it was its normal rithem. I dare not jump higher than 1 m. But now I’m riding a horse I used to ride. And I’m so proud of myself. I’m not freezing anymore and I dared to jump 90cm even while I knew the horse would probably stop😅🙊 but slowly I’m getting more confidence

    Recommendations?
    I take lessons and I have a project horse that I help my trainer train he’s a 15.3-16.0 hands were not sure what he is we’re positive he has fresian and I’m only 5’0 so he’s very big for me and we’ve come a long way but the past 2 weeks there was a mare in the other field In heat and he was going crazy( he’s gelded)so I had to go get him from his field and I led him to his stall because we had a little one group lesson that I was helping with and the little ones were freaking out and so he started rearing while I was leading him but once I put him in the stall and calmed him down he was fine but then the week after we had a small Halloween get together after my group lesson for the “older kids” there was about 5-6 of us and I was brushing him getting some bonding time and he started trying to buck and stuff so I gave him cool off time and calmed him down and then took everything easy and was going to lunge him but he started freaking out again. Any recommendations to help with my confidence with handling him cause ever since I’ve been really nervous around him

    • @shanarama1965
      @shanarama1965 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Im 5’2 and own a 16hh & 15.3 hand horse- i understand your struggle! Maybe try and get out to the barn as OFTEN as you can, lunge him, work him and really establish yourself. Lunging is a great way to bond with your horse, AND a great way to say “hey, im the boss”. Anytime he gets excited just work him, when lunging ASK him to buck; ASK him to be crazy because he can get it out! just watch yourself and let him play around, but then take control and direct him on what you want to do. Try desensitization with him aswell, as it seems hes quite sensitive. Trailer him places just to walk him around and lunge him on the lead, bring him out by mares, bring him out by geldings, bring him to the arena when horses are being ridden there. Anytime he acts up when you’re leading or on the ground asking him to stand; BACK him up like you MEAN it- return the energy he gave you. Pull him down (stay to the side, do not get hurt) when he rears and walk him forward, then back him up. Repeat the process. if he tries to paw while standing still; kiss at him. thats another impatient and bad habit. Just remember to assert yourself! Try lunging and asking him to relax and such there. If you have a roundpen try free lunging him!

    Thank you alot for this, i've been scrolling for ages on the search and im glad i found this video. My pony is like a spit fire, lets just say he's rather opinionated, he occasionally bucks and sometimes throws in some rears, we've had medical things checked and nothing is wrong with him, I haven't ridden in a while (If im brutally honest) because i've been feeling a bit anxious because of that, but since he also spooks too, I think this video will really help aswell so I appreciate you being the solution (Hopefully) to bringing back my confidence!
    PS I appologise about how outdated i've written this 😅

      Hi Emma,
      I hope you and your pony are doing well! If you're still finding yourself having confidence challenges with him, check out www.HypnoRide.com. Positive visualization can work wonders when it comes to finding your confidence. So much of confidence issues are rooted in our unconscious mind, and the guided meditation recordings that we offer help tap into and reprogram your unconscious mind so that you can become the rider you want to be!
      Good luck, and happy riding! :)
      Kathryn

    I was super confident in the start but it slowly seared down for some reason. I really don't know why but I started to develop a bad fear of cantering. Like trotting? yes. Jumping? yes. but if you ask me to canter I have a mini heart attack lol. I fell of cantering a week ago and today had my first lesson after a fall. I was put on this adorable 14hh horse that was perfect for me but I got off before cantering because I was scared. I don't know what to do. Its gotten to the point where I am not progressing anymore if anything im going backwards. Part of the problem is that my trainer keeps putting me on new horses instead of keeping me on one specific horse that I can get used to. I bitterly dread Sundays because I know I have riding and I hate that because riding is my life and a few months ago I would count down the days until I got to go to the barn but now not so much. What do I do? Please help I literally considered quitting and I do NOT want to quit. Also I forgot to mention that there is one pony I have a huge amount of confidence on and can canter in 4 laps greatly but I never get to ride him because everyone loves him. I feel so lost and alone. I ride with my sister and cousin and my cousin used to be super bad but now she is so good and much better than me. It doesn't annoy me that she is better than me, it annoys me that she is super confident. Also I am lucky because its winter right now but the second it gets warm I am going to have to use the outdoor arena and its so big and I don't think I can canter in it and I am just freaking out please someone help me before I quit or something. 😫🤍

      I think it could be beneficial for you to take a break from riding! Even it's just for a couple weeks or maybe a couple months. It should be fun, not something you dread. And I find taking a break, makes coming back more exciting. Also, talk to your trainer about it! Be honest about your fears and make a plan to work through them.
