  • The Rodecaster Pro is a game changing tool for audio production and it’s super simple to incorporate it into live streams and/or video podcasts via OBS. Here’s a quick rundown of the process:
    •My Rodecaster Pro Review/Overview Video:
    • The Rodecaster Pro: Ev...
    •Rodecaster Pro:
    geni.us/A3Rw1Gr (Amazon)
    geni.us/swrodecaster (Sweetwater)
    Rode has a lot of products with similar names: the Rode Procaster, Rodecaster Pro, The Broadcaster, and the Podcaster. Most of these products are microphones, but for the sake of clarity, the RODECaster Pro is an all-in-one audio production tool that I’ve totally fallen in love with.
    I was toying around with the idea of improving audio quality for live The Rodecaster is a pretty simple plug and play device. I’m using a Mac, but I believe this should work the same way on Windows. As soon as you connect the USB cable from the Rodecaster’s USB C port to your computer and open OBS, you should see the Rodecaster as an available audio source.
    This now gives you the option to use 4 XLR inputs for a live stream, along with auxiliary and Bluetooth sources. Since the Rodecaster makes it easy to incorporate phone calls as an audio source, this also means that it opens up the option to bring live calls into your livestreams.
    The Rodecaster Pro is seriously awesome. Of course, you don’t need expensive gear to create great stuff, but well thought out tools like this can improve your workflow and make it easier and ore fun to create cool things!
    Episode 118: Use the Rodecaster Pro & OBS for Livestreams and Video Podcasts!

    The funny thing about TH-cam is that, if you think of something, like you figure out that you have a problem - and then you imagine that you might be able to come up with a solution. And you ask yourself, "I wonder if someone on TH-cam has already done it and can tell me exactly what to do to fix my problem - that is right in line with what I thought I could do?" ... and then you go search those keywords on TH-cam or Google..... And then viola! There's someone that has done exactly what you imagined and has produced a video telling you exactly how to do what you imagined, so you don't have to go through the trial and error to learn how to get it done yourself! THANK YOU!!!! Bravo Zulu!!!!
    And yes, I love my Rodecaster PRO!!! Loved the video and subscribed.

    A quick question: How well does the ducking feature work in an OBS live streaming scenario? As an example, if you wanted to be able to be heard whilst talking over your desktop audio?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest, I never using ducking features because I always find them distracting. This one works fine, but I feel like you can still hear a little gain noise going up and down as it ducks. 😕

    I am thinking about purchasing this device and all the reviews and tutorials look great. My only question is with the 2.0 firmware update. I am unclear whether there exists an option to mute the speaker outputs automatically when enabling one of the mic channels. Coming from traditional radio, this is a standard feature on broadcast mixers so as to prevent feedback. It is also great as an indicator that the microphones are muted and hosts can hear commercials or music without necessarily wearing headphones.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I get where you’re coming from. I used to work at a tv station, and this was similar to our audio setup there, but the Rodecaster doesn’t have an automatic mute option (or if it does, I haven’t found it).

    Thanks for the video. Some questions about using live broadcasts:
    - I am using the wireless microphone "Comica CVM-WM300 (A)"
    - What is your opinion to use it with this console?
    - Thinking of making video podcasts or interviews via Zoom and putting them on TH-cam live, any suggestions?
    - Can you use a computer or other element to play music during the program?
    - Any extra suggestions for live broadcasts?
    Thank you.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I really recommend this video from Peter Gregg. It's a bit long, but he covers EVERYTHING you need to get a live stream up and running and looking pro:
      th-cam.com/video/ORFAdVp0tXE/w-d-xo.html
      But to answer your questions:
      1. The Rodecaster takes XLR inputs, so if your wireless mic has an XLR receiver, it'll work.
      2. The Peter Gregg video linked above will guide you through the setup for a video podcast. The tech part is the same, and then you can use streaming software to determine which platform you want to send it to.
      3. You can connect a computer or phone to the TRRS port on the Rodecaster to play music.
      4. My suggestion is to start simple and upgrade as your needs become apparent. Don't buy an entire studio at once and become overwhelmed. Get the basics, and your own unique workflow will help you figure out where to go from there.
      Best of luck!

      OBS is pretty incredible overall. I use it everyday at work, and pretty often on my own.
      Switching camera angles does require a mixer of some type, but if you’re just trying to get a signal from something like a DSLR into OBS, then you just need an hdmi converter (BlackMagic and Elgato both sell good ones).

    well i got a quarter of my question answered in this video......so to record video with the audio, would you run the camera into the OBS program? if so what kind of camera is recommended?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can either sync audio to your video in an editing program, or run the camera and Rodecaster into OBS to record “live”. Any camera will work, but you’ll likely need an hdmi capture card/device for the computer. The elgato camlink works great for that.

    Does the Rodecaster Pro also act as a DAC (maybe even with amp functionality) to put a headphone in it and hear the audio from the computer while the computer receives the input from the mics? So basicly that it would be possible to use voice software like TeamSpeak and Discord just with the Roadcaster Pro?

      It depends on how you've got your setup going, but if the rodecaster os connected to your computer via USB, you should be able to bring up the USB channel volume and hear the computer. You may have to select the Rodecaster as an output source on your computer first though.

    HEy Tom. Great video. I am using the rodecaster pro with OBS and Zoom. I am having a problem with hearing zoom audio from my zoom caller on my facebook broadcast. A video on the correct settings when using all of these together would be great. I looked into it and they say you need virtual audio cables. I got them but it's still very confusing.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could try running your Zoom audio into the smartphone channel on the Rodecaster with a 3.5mm cable coming from your computer's headphone output. Then you can still select the rodecaster as the Zoom audio source, so everyone in the call can hear you, and you can turn off USB Mix Minus and select the Rodecaster as the audio source for Facebook. I'm not 100% sure this would work and it could cause an echo for the people on Zoom, but it's worth a shot.
      As for virtual routing, I also have a video coming out about Loopback, which might be a good solution. If you have a Mac it would let you create a "virtual audio device" where you combine Zoom audio and Rodecaster audio and then select that device in Facebook.

    Hey great video, this is exactly what I wanted to find out! Would you be able to also plug in your phone or an action cam in the laptop and use that as a video source for obs? So basically, rodecaster - audio, phone/action cam video, all connected to the laptop and through obs control all of them and live stream/record?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that’s totally possible! You can definitely connect other cameras to OBS. You may need an HDMI converter for some cameras, but any camera that connects via USB should show up as a source no problem.
      The only thing I’ve struggled with is making sure that audio is synced across all cameras- sometimes I’ll get it looking great with one camera, but need to make adjustments when I switch the shot. That all depends on whatever gear you’re specifically using though. Once you get it working, you could get something like the elgato Streamdeck to switch between angles and stuff. 👍

    I'm between beginner and intermediate knowledge of audio. There an audio mixer in OBS, there's an audio mixer in ATEM Mini Control Software, Rodecaster Pro is a mixer. I already own 2 capture cards. If I'm making a video podcast (1 camera + screen share for guests), what are step-up benefits for each way of solving the audio requirements? Confused. I put a premium on clean audio and ease of self-production.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They could each probably handle it on their own. OBS can do everything, but is an absolute pain to set up and use. ATEM has a pretty decent software mixer for audio, but your inputs are limited. The Rodecaster is a dedicated audio mixer/recorder/interface with the benefit of physical buttons/sliders.

    I just got a Rodecaster Pro. I'm trying to use the PC as both a interview source and also to send the audio out for livestreaming. However, Streamlabs OBS seems to not like the Multitrack device input. It shows a mono channel and the VU doesn't move. However, the Stereo Out (that contains the mix-minus) does seem to work. Obviously that would be a problem for the way I want to use it. I'm not sure if I should contact RODE regarding the driver or Streamlabs because their software isn't cooperating with the driver (most other applications are working so far I'm finding).

    • @tombuck

      In theory, you SHOULD be able to add a Skype source via Bluetooth to TRSS cable, either of which will have it’s own volume slider on the Rodecaster. OBS will just see the unit as one audio source, so any mixing will need to be done before the output. I hope that’s along the lines of what you needed?
