    As a radio personality and a podcast instructor, this is a pretty cool device. I like program able pads for intros, bumpers and ads. No mention of individual channel dynamics but it was a brief overview. Ryan is right, this will up your game when it comes to sounding professional.

    I love my Rodecaster. It is a great solution for my current recording needs. Mix minus works so well. My only challenge: longer tracks saved to the trigger pads "break up" when recording to the SD card. Does not seem to do this when recording externally to USB/computer. The effect is a skip/jump effect on the triggered sound from the pad. I even tried to make the sounds smaller files (changing from WAV to MP3) and it still does this. Apart from this, the machine is an engineering marvel. It combines one large case of gear I used to haul into a unit that fits in a laptop case. Love it.

      I saw a reply from Rodes on this question: they said not anytime in the near future, since they just released it. I think what we need is a lot of us to email Rodes directly and let them know how many sales they are losing due to the lack of this one function.

    Does anyone from Rode read this? If so, we are part of a podcaster private community/group and talk with each other and help each other out with tips, hardware suggestions, etc. I've been asked by that group to ask Rode if there are any plans at all to add some kind of multitrack output to this unit? If so, there's about 8 more sales just within this group that you'll probably make as soon as it hits the US market. Thanks.

    This is a great piece of equipment for podcasters. Sure there are some probably some improvements and tweeks here and there that need to be done (like multi-track recording) but that's expected with new tech. Thing is though, unfortunately this is not budget friendly for most podcasters. Unless Rode is handing one out to you for free (testing on your channel of course) or your podcast has some pretty good backing with sponsors, this just isn't affordable for many out there. TASCAM came up with a very affordable mini-studio for podcasters to get started with. I'd like to see Rode put together the same type of thing and most can afford. How about doing just a Rodecaster version without the Pro? Knock out some of the options that the Pro version has to give some the opportunity not only to learn podcasting, but start one on an affordable level as well. Of course this is just my 2 cents. I still think this is an amazing product and is sure to make a positive impact on the podcasting community. In my 13 years of podcasting, this seems like it might be one of the best pieces of equipment out there. But I'll have to save up a bit for one before confirming that for myself.

    Thanks

    • @andrewcrossley2448
      @andrewcrossley2448 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I turn it off when it’s not being used. It’s powered by a mains transformer/adapter that’s quite a big block similar to a laptop. Brilliant quality even using the cheap PodMic as you tune you voice in the desk’s software. It’s so easy to use that I have asked my department at the Uni where I work to buy one with 4 PodMics and boom arms. This will enable students to make their own recordings and broadcasts after about 30 mins of online training - Rode site tells you all you need to know. In the current world of remote working and teaching, creating professional level content is a plus factor. And it’s great fun to use.

I love the feature of having separated headphone output control. There is only one thing missing that would make this console a must have. Multi channel recording. However, great work.

  • @jefflackey
    @jefflackey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I was about to buy this for our podcast, but early in our history we learned that being able to have each host on a separate track for editing is a must. Otherwise, if one host coughs or bumps his mic or anything else while the other is talking, you can't edit it out; on the other hand if each host is recorded to a separate track (or can even each be panned to the left and right channels of the stereo track) it is simple to edit out the cough or bump or anything else and not mess with the other host's audio. Almost every podcaster I know, even amateurs like us, records vocals on separate tracks so they can edit (unless they're using something like iPhones.) While multitrack recording is ideal (and it's puzzling why this doesn't have it, it seems obvious it needs it for its purpose!) even if they added the ability to pan one mic to the right side of the stereo track and another to the left side, you could at least do the editing with two speakers. As soon as some kind of multitrack is added, I'll buy this in a second and put my Soundcraft mixer away (and so will a lot of podcasters with whom I've discussed this new piece of equipment.)

    I am shopping for a replacement for my ailing R24 and was all in on this until I read the comments about it recording to one single track. I expected it to be a true multi-track recorder, especially with the four separate channels and the two channels for other devices such as smartphones. If this is true, and it does not record multi-track, it is a deal breaker. Many podcasters need the ability to separate tracks for editing in post production. I'm very disappointed. The other features are great, especially the built-in mix-minus, but the lack of multi-track recording was very short-sighted. This is useless to me as a podcaster. I'll be ordering my new recorder in a couple of weeks and I don't think it will be this one.

      Hey Jeff it's available now at select retailers who placed pre-orders, with most others receiving stock before Christmas! You'd be best to check with your local dealer for price info, you can find them all here - www.rode.com/wheretobuy

    I was recording something through mic one, but I could hear my own voice through headphones while recording. Is there anyway for me not to hear my own voice while recording? Thank you.

    • @rodemic

      If you're listening to music or a backing track via a different channel (like USB), you can press the green 'Solo' button on the USB track to only hear that, and not your voice.

    Can it record and output separate tracks for each input to make editing easier on the computer? Or is it just one combined file?

    • @jefflackey
      @jefflackey 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, deal breaker, you cannot edit individual inputs, all gets mixed to a single stereo track.

    • @DalanVanterpool
      @DalanVanterpool 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      jefflackey Thanks. Hmm. Tough. I like that it simplifies the process, that makes editing details tricky in post. What if you use it as an interface to logic pro or whatever software. Can it map to various tracks in the software?

    • @jefflackey
      @jefflackey 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DalanVanterpool No, all that gets output, even if you connect the USB to your computer and DAW like Logic Pro or Reaper, is a single stereo track.
