  • "This video is for educational and entertainment purposes only. All guns displayed off the range are safety checked and only displayed pointing in safe directions. All footage at the range is private range and the gun is handled by a Range Officer certified by the National Range Officer Institute. This video is not promoting or attempting to sell guns. Sale of guns is heavily regulated and I am not associated with any federally licensed firearms dealer. The actions of all firearms displayed are unmodified and presented as commonly available from original equipment manufacturers. This video is not instructional on building or modifying firearms. Nothing has been done to increase the rate of fire or lethality of the firearms displayed nor would I advocate making such modification as it presents a huge liability and potential risk of harm or death."

Even though I’m getting a free Thunderchicken through the promo, I’m gonna take your advice (we talked on the phone last week) and pick up the CGS Hyperion. I really liked the weight and general feel of the Fix, but couldn't get past the gritty- almost sandy- feel to the bolt throw and operation of the action. For a couple of grand I have a bit higher expectation of refinement, so I took a pass on it. I'll be building my own bolt gun in 8.6 instead so I have no one to blame but my own shoddy skillset.

    Since you brought up 9x39 and you have shot the krebs 9x39 (and well past its typical ranges), how would you compare the two cartridges? Both are prohibitively expensive for most non reloaders, but come in the high 200's in grain weight, with hard cast hitting the low 300's grs with the 9x39.
    Are you gaining anything with the slimmer bullet diameter and the longer case length?

    • @AlabamaArsenal
      @AlabamaArsenal  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      That's a great question, first thing, that I didn't understand when I made the Krebs video is 9x39 isn't standardized. Basically the Tula and the Wolf loadings are different dimensionally and that leads to some problems. That being said I do feel that the 8.6 /338 does give you some serious advantages in the projectile department, whereas you are somewhat limited in 9mm/ 36 caliber rifle projectiles. I think currently, 8.6 has some significant advantages. That being said I would love to see 9x39 become standardized and see more loadings and components available. If everything were equal they would be very comparable, but currently they aren't. It would take some interest in the industry to get 9x39 on the right track in the USA and I'm not Sure that exists currently. It would be cool though, maybe someday. Thanks for watching!

      To be honest, I currently see no to little value in 8.6 supers, however I reserve the right to change my mind. If you saw our video on 8.6 barrel length there's very little difference between a 12" and an 8" so you may just want to go 8", but if you did ever want to shoot supers 12" should give you a little more velocity making it more versatile. You lost my attention when you said “most bolt action rifles are based on the Remington 700.” There is an apparently obscure rifle called the Mauser 98 and more than a few rifles follow that pattern, including the 1903 Springfield and the Winchester Model 70.
    Also it would be helpful to address the failure to get SAAMI approval for the 8.6 Blackout at the start of this year. I have read accounts claiming that Hornady derailed that effort because they favored a 1:5 twist rate instead of 1:3. Is that accurate? Are there downsides to the 1:3 twist rate? Specifically for supersonic rounds…
    Last but not least: a Faxon button rifled barrel on a $3,300 rifle? Seriously?

    • @AlabamaArsenal
      @AlabamaArsenal  5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well Chip, if you had an attention span slightly longer than a field mouse you would have heard that very shortly after I spoke about the REM 700 I did indeed link that back to the Mauser 98 and had footage of my own K98 in the video.
      1:3 does pose challenges, but this round is proving to be wildly successful without approval.
      I can say with relative certainty after shooting Faxon barreled 8.6 builds and the Fix, that the barrel in this gun is not made by Faxon. Thanks for watching!

    A friend of mine bought a Q Fix and it has never worked. Sent it back to Q and they said the hammer strike is too light because of their firing pin being too light. They have had the gun for months with no fix for it. I built mine with an 80% LR308 lower and a 12" barrel that I put in a .308 Bear Creek Arsenal upper. Works flawlessly on 12 grains 1680 with 300 grain .338 Lapua. I also had a fraction of the price of a Q FIX.

    • @kevinbrittingham6774
      @kevinbrittingham6774 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That’s just not true. The gun doesn’t even have a hammer.

      @@kevinbrittingham6774 I simply phrased it wrong. I meant it doesn't fire because of too light a firing pin strike. I wouldn't buy one of their guns simply because of their complete lack of service to my friend. I'm also not a fan of bolt guns either because of the complexity of the firing mechanism. The simplicity of the AR platform has me spoiled. Cheers.
