The greatest East side kids and Haunted house comedy ever and Bela Lugosi is the icing on the cake. So clear with far more light than the TV and DVD version. Almost like watching as first appeared in the movies in 1941. Thank you so much for posting this true 40's classic.
What a load of rubbish! I absolutely loved it. Being born in 1936, I grew up watching and enjoying these guys at the cinema They were so popular, that I am delighted and grateful that their films are here for posterity. So good to see a black actor included in the team. Kind regards from England. November, 2021.
I spent an afternoon with Sunshine Sammy Morrison at the Minneapolis Saint Paul Twin Cities Sons of the Desert convention in 1988 I think it was. It was such an enjoyable time and incredibly I was left alone with him in the hotel lobby and was just able to let him go on about his life in movies and without. It was one of the most memorable days of my life to actually meet one of my childhood idols.

@@robertvillarreal7055 Thank you Robert. I will investigate. Been a lifetime fan of these guys since boyhood, and now, aged 87, still am. November, 2023.
these were "the bowery boys" when i was a kid, when my father was still a boy! this is when movies weren't all special effects and were worth going to the theatre to see it and a bucket of popcorn!
The Bowery Boys were some of the best features of long ago. They were silly, but certainly put us in a better place. Bela Lugosi was born to play these parts.
I see this movie and can imagine the fun these boys had hearing stories Bela told them about playing Dracula and the other movies he was in to be in the same room must have been amazing.
Love these old black and white movies. Bela Lugosi was one of my favorite horror movie actors and even here he played his part well. Remembered the Bowery Boys from other movies. Fun bunch of kids and all together, a good movie. Joe S
A great old film, enjoyed every minute, sadly they didn't expand the script for a longer play, but all is well with the acting and story line. Great entertainment. Thank you for posting!
Extremely funny the dead end kids an the great horror of bela lugosi this movie had great combination of great humor and horror one of my favorites those were the days the fortys don't make em like this anymore .
'The East Side Kids/Bowery Boys' did six, horror comedy pictures. This one first (1941), and 'Ghosts On The Loose' (1942. Of which is better). But the rest, doesn't have, Béla Lugosi😁!!!
The first trio were trying to be the Three Stooges. It was good to see a black actor as one of the main characters. He was also pretty funny with his lines.
That was a goodone.but one sad thing to bad he couldn't get away from been Dracula.and all the movies he made was either a butler or others but at least he has work.
Leo Gorcey, 24-25yrs old during this movie shoot, was born of Bernard 4'10" and Josephine 4'11", in June 1917. Leo, a 12 lb 3oz baby, was 5' 6" as an adult. Bela Lugosi was 6' 1".
There's a similar movie with the same group of "boys" (Leo Gorcey was 24-25 here), they're The East Side Kids btw (interesting group and individual histories- look 'em up sometime), anyway, it's called "Ghosts on the Loose".
Wow what a great transfer from 35mm it appears particularly for reel 1. I hear the sound for the first time. What is the story behind this rendering of the film because for years there was only 16mm poor prints?
See the way he told them to get out of the bus at 3:30? They instantly respected him. We need to make sure the young continue to respect their fellow human beings like that, especially when they are obviously doing wrong. Funny how modern education methods doesn't work for a lot of kids.
I thought that was Lou Costello at first until I got a better. After watching the movie on here the first in years, The Bus driver was actually Lou Costello's brother, and his stunt actor.
Im interested in how there's intermingling of races in Bowery boys and Our Gang little rascals. I was led to believe things in all ways were completely separate. So people could hang out as friends yet must use different toilets, restaurant sections and bus, schools? I can not even comprehend.
this was in N.Y. not the deep south.....Be careful with " Being led to believe stuff" as the saying goes " Believe only half of what you see,and none of what you hear." Peace.....
this film was made in 1941 so it was 'the east side kids'. around 1945, leo gorcey asked to have his salary doubled and when it wasn't, he quit. gorcey, bobby Jordan and one of their agents formed a new production company to keep the group going but with a few changes and the 'bowery boys' began in 1946 continuing to around 1958
Bela Lugosi and the east side kids or Bowery boys together are great please bring back the kids when there older they are good movies please (pandemic classics)
Vilas Bist -- It's OK that your sentence wasn't perfect (I'm guessing that english is your 2nd language). Ignore criticisms from other commenters. Here are tips, just so you'll know (and, shared in the spirit of friendship and helpfulness): "Actress" refers to a female actor. "Actor" may be used for both male and female. I work in the film industry, and know this to be fact. However, you may confirm that point on any professional industry website. 🙂

The El train you saw was the 3rd Ave. El running on the Bowery before going on to 3rd Ave.
This is terrific! Seeing Huntz Hall on screen always makes me smile. And Bela Lugosi, too? I love it.

I had to zap through their corny, hackneyed dialogue at double-speed.🤮
This is one of my favorites . I am a big fan of Bela Lugosi .
Truly love watching these old movies ,thanks so much
I see this movie and can imagine the fun these boys had hearing stories Bela told them about playing Dracula and the other movies he was in to be in the same room must have been amazing.
This group was old when I was young and fun to watch, back from the 40s, and humor at its best.
These old movies are the best. No CGI.

Wow, Bela Lugosi was a hardworking man. I didn't realize the number of movies he was in.
Bela Lugosi looks like he was desperately trying to not laugh! Hilarious! 😆
It aways amazes me that these old movies seem to have more volume than up to date modern movies do.
"How can you read in the dark?" "I go to night school." Stitches! Just fun movies... good times.
The forerunner of Scooby Doo...if it weren't for these meddling kids...😂🤣😂. Thank you for posting it!🥰

What a cast! Great movie. Lugosi deserves an "Oscar". Gorcey gets the "lifetime Acheivement" Award.
Love Lugosi's accent 👌👌
Great film. I enjoyed seeing Gloopy, Scooby, Harpo, Zeppo, Groucho, Snoop Dogg, Stimpy, Jughead, and the whole rest of the East Side Gang!
Don't forget Eagle Beak 🤣
"If I'm yellow, youse colorblind" What a line!

Children of the night. What music they make.
They treat Scruno like an equal. Pretty cool. Especially for those times.

I agree. It's one of their best - liked it since I was 8. Still, their very best was "Dead End", and "They Made Me A Criminal", much more serious
"I don't like that guy's altitude"
I heard, saw Bela in an interview,he was older and didn't do pictures anymore but he said ".I'm done with pictures but.Dracula lives on".

An actor famous for playing "Dracula" teamed up with a dwarf... and this ISN'T "The Man With The Golden Gun". Who'da guessed?
good one
@@diamonddog257No it wasn't.
Very cute ending.
Shows what a large man Lugosi was in his prime and how diminutive Leo Gorcy was.

This is a perfect Halloween night movie for the kids. No actual gore and light, laughable horror.
I love theBowery boys.
Eastside kids.
Agh! Subtitles! Album whose howling = owl, but who’s howling? And more. Adds to the Hilarity!
Haha Dracula driving, and that dwarf is only bout 2'6" I'd say because he comes to Dracs knees.lol

'Boys of the City' in 1941, same year as this one, was also a horror-themed East Side Kids flick.

Classic cast.
It's the ghost of the black widow
So in 1941 fellows were wearing crew necks or pocket tee shirts underneath suit coats kinda like Miami Vice guys.
Very good print.
East side kids were aged by height. The shorter they were , the older they were.
haha lol
That black guy must have been about five feet tall. Lugosi was six feet, one inch tall.
