What amp (if any) and what line-in recording audio interface? Nice exercise 👍

Maybe I'm creating a storm in a teacup and I should just play with a lighter RH touch. BTW, I never seem to be able to get away from Fender med 351 picks. (Good thing George agrees with me :) ) What pick are you using here? Very nice technique, btw. Looks a lot lighter than mine. :/

Maybe a lighter touch will help. I also use Fender medium, before, years ago I used Fender heavy, but I don't know why the medium makes me more precise and I like the way it sounds.
If you like the sound of Benson, he plays with a very high action but pressing the string very lightly, thus getting his stacatto sound.
I have tried it and it works, however my hands hurt with high actions.

@@juanalvarez215 Interesting. I recall GB saying he preferred 14s so he could "dig in" ... which suggests a higher action (for some value of "higher"). He also said he plays with a "lighter touch" which I assumed meant his RIGHT hand.

BTW, what gauge strings are you wearing there? Looks like maybe 12s or higher.

At the time of this recording I had a Thomastik GB12 installed.
However, this guitar is very smooth and fast and allows you a very low action when playing with higher gauges, I usually use GB14 or Daddario Chromes 12 -52 which is similar in terms of tension.

I set a low action but noticed a slight buzz on the G-string at the height I would prefer; other strings are ok. Truss-rod + saddle adjustment didn't seem to solve it. Any thoughts about that?

Neck relief = 6 thou on E @ fret VI
    E: 45 thou (1.14mm)
    e: 40 thou (1.00mm)

    • @juanalvarez215
      @juanalvarez215  ปีที่แล้ว +1

I have it in 0.75 mm at the 12th fret in (E) and 0.50 in (e), it allows me to play faster. The high action throws me off when I play and my hands hurt.
I am more of the school of your countryman Tommy Emmanuel.
To achieve this I set the neck almost straight and if there is a slight buzz as long as it is not amplified it does not bother me.

I think I accidentally deleted your answer. I thought Ibanez dropped the Benson name on deal 21 in the 80's. I had a GB100 from the 90s, it didn't put anything on it.

@@juanalvarez215 TH-cam Comment posts seem to be behaving badly. AFAIK Ibanez only put the "GB" inlay @ XXI on the pre-2000 GB10 series; not other GB models. The headstock (plastic) signature has been retained. I don't know what cut George still gets on what models but I'd be surprised if it wasn't something substantial. He's even sporting a non-inlay NT live at 80 yo. Gives me hope. :/

@@redrooz I've seen early 90's GB10s without inlays (Benson). I had always heard that they stopped playing it in the mid 80's or so.
I don't really care, I like the guitar for what it is.

    • @juanalvarez215

According to the page ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/GB10 it is in 92 when the Benson inlay is stopped at the 21st fret.
Well, it's a curiosity, actually the design of the instrument is the same as its creation in the 70s, except for the number of frets, which at the beginning were 21 and in 79 they became 22.
      I like those curiosities.👍
