Beautiful
Perfecto, como siempre, maestro. Tú nunca pierdes facultades. En cambio, yo, de todo lo que aprendí contigo, ya no me acuerdo de nada.
Eres un cachondo.
On mine I changed the Bigsby for a B6C V type and the bridge for a Vanson roller tunamatic. Wilkinson kluson machines to go on there next.
I changed it too, then I sold the guitar.
Now we're swingin.' A fantastic melody and that fat guitar gets it done.
Excellent version, very good play and sound. I own one of this guitar, same finish.
A broadway with the GB10 tailpiece! Sounds good! Looks cool!
Great.
Juan, you have done the entire blues vocabulary, fantastic and it’s uplifting from the usual focus on minor pentatonics. More please.
Wow awesome performance the guitar sounds great. As a fan of Barney Kessel I can really appreciate the work that has gone into this recording.
Pretty good
Beautiful playing ! Love the tone of the Deluxe for jazz also. I see you are using the line out, nice sound and very practical for home playing. Cheers from France.
very nice playin
Excelente, como siempre.
well done!
THE BEST...version of this song I've ever heard on guitar!... I love it..
This is exceptionally well performed.
Wow!! Thank´s so much William.
That was great - perfect for a twangy Gretsch - thank you. Did you arrange this yourself?
Yes, of course, it is not difficult.
I have always loved Gretsch guitars. So stylish, and such a great sound. The original bond theme was played (by Vic Flick) on a 1939 Clifford Essex Paragon De Luxe. Like this Gretsch, that is an electric/acoustic guitar, but with only one pickup, just below the fretboard. The Gretsch has one pickup in much the same place, but another nearer the bridge. There are some similarities in shape, but the Gretsch has a 'jazz cutaway'. I cannot tell from the photographs I have seen, but I think the Clifford Essex may be a little wider front to back.
Hello Brian. I always wondered who was the guitarist who recorded this song. Now I know, even with what instrument. I was convinced it was a Fender or something. I never stop learning things, thanks to new technologies. Thank you for the information, for your words and for listening to me. Greetings.
@@juanalvarez215 Hi Julian, I have only just seen your reply. There are videos of Vic Flick playing the James Bond theme on the original guitar on TH-cam. I understand the guitar was displayed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, in Cleveland, Ohio, though I do not know if it is still there. Vic worked as a session guitarist with Tom Jones, Cliff Richard, Dusty Springfield, Shirley Bassey, Petula Clark, Herman’s Hermits, and others. He also played with the George Martin Orchestra. You play beautifully, by the way. Oddly enough, I do not play guitar, but my late brother did, so I have always had an interest. When he was about 17, he had a Saturday job at Barratts of Manchester (England). My parents knew the owner, Adrian Barratt. One day, they let him bring home a white Gretsch, which I think was quite old. (This was in the mid seventies.) I think it may have been from the 1930s. It was one of the most beautiful guitars I have ever seen. Sadly, it had to go back. My brother played more acoustic than electric, though he went back to electric with a few local bands he played with. Thanks for your reply.
Terrific!!! Thanks Juan.......Sal : )
Hello! New subscriber here. I've been enjoying guitar music for more then 60 years; all kinds of guitar music. I've been listening to a lot of music in the Django Reinhardt style lately. So many excellent players, especially in Europe. Like Angelo DeBarre, among the top players of that genre, your playing just sounds "musical" to my ears. When I hear rock geetar heavy metal or whatever its called, shrieking screeching electronically processed sounds, I think: "fast fingers for sure, but where's the music?"
Thank you for your words, they are important to me.
really good keep it up !
Joli phrasé, joli son, belle impro. Merci, Monsieur.
So Cool! I used to play this years ago for one of my friends she got so happy and would hum it all the rest of the day!🙂
So cool!
Well done. There is a lot to love about your effort. The ending chord; B add b13 (on bottom) is new to me. I like it, it gets right to that 60s reverb groove. I'm currently smitten with that crunchy 60s sound; working on the theme from Casino Royale, 1967 (The "Look of Love", coming to TH-cam soon). I posted a Rockabilly bit on a 5420T th-cam.com/video/Qkr_MD7gNzw/w-d-xo.html. BTW, what did you use for a backing track?
Hello. Thank you Tim for your words. I actually searched for a track on the internet and downloaded it.
I think that it should be more clean. I think that clean sound of Gretsch Country Gentleman would be great
@@SandySaul Well, it's my version.
Can you say what year is this NT? I can tell it's later than c.2000.
Why do you say it's after 2000? Yes it is from 2012.
I think I accidentally deleted your answer. I thought Ibanez dropped the Benson name on deal 21 in the 80's. I had a GB100 from the 90s, it didn't put anything on it.
@@juanalvarez215 TH-cam Comment posts seem to be behaving badly. AFAIK Ibanez only put the "GB" inlay @ XXI on the pre-2000 GB10 series; not other GB models. The headstock (plastic) signature has been retained. I don't know what cut George still gets on what models but I'd be surprised if it wasn't something substantial. He's even sporting a non-inlay NT live at 80 yo. Gives me hope. :/
@@redrooz I've seen early 90's GB10s without inlays (Benson). I had always heard that they stopped playing it in the mid 80's or so. I don't really care, I like the guitar for what it is.
According to the page ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/GB10 it is in 92 when the Benson inlay is stopped at the 21st fret. Well, it's a curiosity, actually the design of the instrument is the same as its creation in the 70s, except for the number of frets, which at the beginning were 21 and in 79 they became 22. I like those curiosities.👍
Very nice. For your amusement ... I came across this vid th-cam.com/video/pGbiaJ-E70w/w-d-xo.html last year, before dropping for the NT. To me, Cempron is getting what I would describe as a pre-Ibanez Benson tone (viz., Johnny Smith era) with his Epi Broadway. AFAIK, unless you're talking a vintage original, they're all reissue and priced under $1000 new. The sound and work quality is generally considered exceptional at that "cheap" price. And guess what amp he is using? A Blues Junior (I asked him). You'll recognize it sitting on the floor behind him. :)
BTW, curious as to what happened to the original Epi "Frequensator" tail-piece?
I have it saved, although I don't like it I prefer to keep it.
With all those nice guitars, you must either be a wealthy musician or in the guitar trade. 🤓
I am 58 years old, I have been playing all my life, more than 40 guitars have passed through my hands, some have stayed and others have been sold. I don't have so many but I do have select ones. Now I only have 7 electric ones, among them 2 stratos that have been with me for 40 years. I sold the Gretsch and I gave the Telecaster to my nephew. I have my 335, GB10, Epi Broadway, and Eastman AR371. I only need an Ibanez AF2000, to replace an AF200 from the year 2000 that was the best guitar I've ever had and I had to sell for financial reasons. He'll probably sell the Eastman. No, I'm not rich, I don't have a big car or a motorcycle, I'm only interested in playing the guitar and in my family, the rest is accessory. 335 and Broadway were given to me by my wife. The rest of the ones you see there are no longer there or belonged to a friend or I have sold them. The rest is part of my patrimony and I have been getting them throughout my life.
It's true that for 11 years I was the owner of a small musical instrument store, but I don't keep much from that time, only my beloved Blues Junior from 99. It's the amp I use for live shows, it sounds great with hollows.
This Epiphone Broadway that you see in the video is one of the cheap ones, I bought it second hand or fifth hand for €350 and I restored it with Gibson components, I made frets, I changed pickups, wiring, bridge... It's one of my favorites, but the frets are very worn since I studied with her for many years.
Maybe I'm creating a storm in a teacup and I should just play with a lighter RH touch. BTW, I never seem to be able to get away from Fender med 351 picks. (Good thing George agrees with me :) ) What pick are you using here? Very nice technique, btw. Looks a lot lighter than mine. :/
Maybe a lighter touch will help. I also use Fender medium, before, years ago I used Fender heavy, but I don't know why the medium makes me more precise and I like the way it sounds. If you like the sound of Benson, he plays with a very high action but pressing the string very lightly, thus getting his stacatto sound. I have tried it and it works, however my hands hurt with high actions.
@@juanalvarez215 Interesting. I recall GB saying he preferred 14s so he could "dig in" ... which suggests a higher action (for some value of "higher"). He also said he plays with a "lighter touch" which I assumed meant his RIGHT hand.
Neck relief = 6 thou on E @ fret VI E: 45 thou (1.14mm) e: 40 thou (1.00mm)
I have it in 0.75 mm at the 12th fret in (E) and 0.50 in (e), it allows me to play faster. The high action throws me off when I play and my hands hurt. I am more of the school of your countryman Tommy Emmanuel. To achieve this I set the neck almost straight and if there is a slight buzz as long as it is not amplified it does not bother me.
@@juanalvarez215 Great info. Really appreciate your comments. Thx
Do you have a GB10 too?
@@juanalvarez215 ??? Do you mean a GB10BS? I'm not a fan of Sunburst (anything). I much prefer the NT appearance.
@@juanalvarez215 Why do I not see my Replies, TH-cam?
BTW, what gauge strings are you wearing there? Looks like maybe 12s or higher.
At the time of this recording I had a Thomastik GB12 installed. However, this guitar is very smooth and fast and allows you a very low action when playing with higher gauges, I usually use GB14 or Daddario Chromes 12 -52 which is similar in terms of tension.
You're from Australia? I say this because of your cool kangaroo avatar.
@@juanalvarez215 Thank you. Well spotted, mate! 👍🦘
I set a low action but noticed a slight buzz on the G-string at the height I would prefer; other strings are ok. Truss-rod + saddle adjustment didn't seem to solve it. Any thoughts about that?
@@redrooz I don't know which strings you use
What amp (if any) and what line-in recording audio interface? Nice exercise 👍
GB tail-piece tensioners?
It is indeed a GB tailpiece
@@juanalvarez215 Are you using the same recording setup as for your later GB10 "Ionian arps" video? Very nice tone in both cases.
@@redrooz Yes, same amp and same equalization. The amp is a DV Mark micro 50, I use the line output.
@@juanalvarez215 Gracias !!!
@@redrooz Yes, the same, but in GB the volume of the guitar is at 7 and on Broadway at full.
Super sweet!!!
Great sound! Love the dog!
Thanks Jim. The dog is my little friend Blas. In the video he was 14 years old and a short time later he passed away.
Great playing- subscribed
Thanks for watching and subscribing.
Was it hard to change the pickup?
It depends. If you try to solder to the pot from the pickup it is more complicated because you have to remove the pot through the f-hole and then insert it. At first it was what I would try to do, however I saw that the original wiring was good and I directly soldered cable to cable, saving me all that labor. Then I changed the pot on the neck pickup for a Gibson 300k to give more bass, however I don't appreciate the difference too much. The original components are good, it is not necessary to change them except for the pickups.
@@juanalvarez215 Wow, thanks. Mine is also Korean. I hope there is enough wire in there to get the pickup out. Those Gibson pickups are expensive! Love Jazz!
@@blueeyedsoulman If you want it basically for jazz you can change only the neck pickup, the bridge doesn't sound bad, I changed it because I already had a 57 plus at home. The jazzy sound is close to an L5, especially because of the pine top and the 25.5" scale.
