For those who say that Derek's reaction is not enough: you don't need to say oh my god and panic and more. You can see the pain in his eyes - he is ready to cry. And he felt like a jerk for speeding while his wife was dealing with the miscarriage. He knows Meredith's pain is so much greater and is trying to be calm for her.

I also think thats adorable. Thats what all couples should be for each other. A rock when the other is crumbling. A healthy give and take

I just love how mer holds her tear, it wets her eyes and you're just bound waiting for it to drop!
It's sad that throughout the show Meredith is frightened of him dying but in the end he just dies. But it's also inspiring how she did not go the dark path unlike Amelia Meredith kept moving...she did it for her children and her newborn. Man!! Imagine ur self as Meredith...ur husband just died and u find out your pregnant that made me cry. OMG when Amelia breaks down crying!! I was literally crying with her.😭😭💔

Actually the pregnancy was planned. Remember the conversation she had with him in the bed where he said he wanted another baby because he wanted more with her and if you notice Derek always has a feeling that something is gonna happen to him I'm guessing because his father died when he was young. Right before the hospital shooting he told Meredith that if anything happens to him he don't want her to be alone and then he got shot and she found out she was pregnant but lost it. Then later he dies and she was pregnant again.
big difference though. Amelia was all alone in her grief. Meredith had 2 kids that needed her and she was pregnant with a baby that would also need her. So even though their grief is comparable, Meredith didn't really have a choice in moving forward. She just did it. But that's an unspoken layer that comes up later when she and Amelia are having that huge fight - because Meredith may have "moved on" but she hasn't been able to ever fall apart or be sad or angry because she's taking care of her kids. Amelia gets to feel all of those emotions and is also the only one Mer can really project her frustration onto.
I find this completely ironic considering he was basically killed in a car anyway😥 even though he technically wasn’t if that makes sense.

Yup.. sometimes a simple hug can do more to comfort someone than screaming and crying when a tragedy happens.
When would screaming and crying ever be comforting? That just means you have to put aside your own pain to calm _them_ down. That's not helpful at all.
She was worried because she kept having a recurring dream that Derek dies and she couldn't help him and later on everything she dreamt happened. That's just sad.

This scene needed to be more emotional... I know Derek can be really emotional but i guess the director thought that he needed to act that way, i dont know... its all about the way the director wants it to be. I would love that the writer the script could havve said something, make them redo the scene
Lizeth Quispe Perez he was taken aback by the revelation but I think he was trying to be calm and supportive of mer without getting to emotional himself
I think he reacted as he should have trying to be there for MREs emotional moment

I was expecting Derek to have a little bigger reaction. I mean, it was his kid too. He reacted like a friend, not her husband.
i think it was appropriate in this case, his wife is freaking out and hyperventilating so he needed to be calm for her.

this scene breaks my heart💔. meredith trying to hold back her tears and derek is trying not to cry bc then meredith is gonna cry🥺. his reaction was more than enough...if derek went crazy it would have made it worse! he was going to have to find out eventually! and the way he held her 🥺🥺 the writers and producers should have focused more on mer’s miscarriage🥺🥺🥺😩
It pissed me off cause they never focused on the miscarriage rather they made derek forget that the wife went through a trauma and Miscarriage, they made him focused on Cristina which is not bad but how wrong and cristina blamed her for the shooting is just disgusting.

Imagine if the miscarriage didn't happen zola wouldn't be on the show or zola and the baby would be closer in age or Meredith would have 4 kids to look after Derek died
I don't think they would've adopted if they had had this baby.
@@rookiemonster646 Plus I think on this they focused on Ellen's real life story of she kept having Miscarriages before she gave birth to her daughter in S6 and after her she kept having them that's why her and her husband decided surrogate while in Greys they decided to adopt baby Zola and then she got pregnant with baby bailey and baby Ellis.

It's weird how, in this scene its like Mer is the derek from season 2/3 and Derek is the irresponcible Mer from season 2/3. Just an observation.
I didn't like his reaction though, he didn't seem exactly heart broken by it, i mean seriously?! Bit dissapointed tbh. :)
I think he was trying not to be disappointed for Meredith, he didn’t know. Derek has to be understanding for her she knew about it and kept it in and there was nothing for him to do except comfort her since she endured it all alone. I think it speaks more for him not being upset and thinking more about what he’s been doing it hadn’t hit him but Meredith his Meredith is upset and he was selfish and she needs him that’s what he needed to focus on
He was trying to remain calm and supportive for merideth as she was so upset about his driving and loseing him and loseing their baby
@@lanokaharbor24 If you check before the shooting Mer was about to tell him in the office, when she asked Meredith how was your day and Mer told him it consisted of alot of surgery and he was mad coz he said mine is full of papers, and when Mer saw that she told him I have something to tell you over dinner and alot of sex for you?, but then the lock down came when Mer decided to tell him the shooting was already on so he put them in a store to hide there was no time
@@maureenavilia208 I know there wasn’t time I was commenting on how he didn’t know. How in an instant Derek knew he couldn’t be upset he couldn’t show his disappointment because this was something him and mer desperately wanted, in an instant all he could do was comfort mer because he knew there was no reason to be angry at her for not telling him she went through all of it alone and silent. He only thought of the tragedy as something thing he survived! he wanted to live in that feeling of invincibility. Not realizing what he was doing to mer but all in an instant he got it how selfish and stubborn he was being. And unlike younger Derek he didn’t snap he didn’t get upset and most importantly he didn’t walk away. he was there for her and only her and he was ashamed

i'm probably gonna get a lot of thumbs down for this but i think this scene is so disappointing. it's way too short and patrick dempsey is the worst actor on the planet, seriously. he barely shows any emotion and he mumbles all the time, so i can always hardly understand him
