  • ** EPISODE 8 **
In this Episode i continue the task of removing the rotten transome assembly, firsty removing the stubborn knees and bolts, then moving onto the the rotten fashion piece. the battle against Sikaflex begins.
i also get the repairs completed on my little Gp14 sailing dingy, ready to rig up and get out for some fun on the water.
My apologies for the delay in uploading this video, Managing to work full time, work on my own boat project at the weekends and some evenings, filming and editing these video's, set up the workshop so i can work inside and also have a life, is proving to be quite a challenge, to add to that, to have computer problems really doesn't help with keeping on track with the video schedule! Hopefully all is resolved from now and the work and videos can start flowing freely!
I want to thank each and every one of you who have shown some much support to my journey so far, especially in this strange situation we have all found ourselves in around the world.
Your continued support is truly incredible and i am incredibly grateful.

I love the design of the sailing dinghy. She's a beauty. At least you were able to fix her up. Nice job of patching the hole.
Sometimes circumstances allow us to work on those things that we've been putting off.
Lockdown...that was fun wasn't it. We had about 6 months of lockdown over 2020 so I renovated my kitchen.

Finn, I have just recently found your channel and am spending hours trying to catch up to the present status and have a long way to go as yet. I have watched videos of other DIY boat builders and restorers. If I had the money and were younger and wanted to build a boat, you would be the first person I would talk to about building me a boat because of your attention to detail and the way that you describe what you are doing and why. I am loving your videos and have just finished number 8, so have quite a ways to go. Thank you for being a craftsman and displaying your craftsmanship. If I were younger with the money, your email box would be loaded with requests to build me a quality boat that I knew I could sail around the world in without having any construction mishaps. Take care and stay well.

Just watched this and it has taken me back to my childhood when I was about 9/10 as my uncle built a GP14 in his garage and also another small wooden dinghy. I remember him steaming strips of timber in an old cast iron drain pipe. We all use to go on camping holidays aunt's uncle's cousin's and the two boats. I remember having a race from Warerham to Brownsea Island and back using outboard's and oars . What great memories as I am now 65 .

When you varnish with a "lint" free roller, use a 3 wide foam brush after rolling the varnish on to gently wipe away all roller marks and bubble flecks, make sure you stroke the foam brush gently in one direction only, fore and aft. It gives a lovely smooth finish, if you rub down between coats just do this on the last couple of coats. Your GP looked lovely, nice work, great to see old boats getting new life breathed into them. I sailed a GP14 in 1968, fun boat and safe. Success 👍

The GP 14 looks amazing Finn, well done, it's nice to get something else finished when struggling with a stubborn job like the transom. They did a good job of sticking it on, but shame they used such crap timber!
The only way I can think of getting it out is to run the circular saw along its length several time and then chip it out with a chisel or adze....what a pain!

Cracking job on the GP14, seen plenty of them sailing but never sailed one. @joshdrexler8773 4 ปีที่แล้ว

This ferrocement boat has never been on the water, AND the transom is stuck tightly to the underlying cement without gaps that might have allowed rain to infiltrate back of the wood. So why then did it rot?
I'm wondering if the cause might be dampness seeping outward from cement that wasn't dry enough when the wood was applied. It might be worth surveying some other areas where wood was applied directly over cement on the lookout for similar problems.
You are doing impressive work. Props.
