I didn't train my dog as an emotional support animal but he does a damn good job, he knows the signs of my panic attacks and can tell when I'm upset and need him to give me a cuddle. He's such a good boy :')
My wife’s dog “Pepper”, a 90lb Great Dane mix, and I both have occasional seizures. Pepper warns me when I’m about to have a seizure. She then alerts my wife of what’s going on. After that she comes back to me and plops her whole 90lb self on top of me, or leans up against me and pins me to the couch or whatever she can get me up against. She holds me down to try to keep me from hurting myself. Pepper has never been trained to do this. She’s just a sweet dog. We got her from a local shelter when she was a pup. I always know when Pepper is about to have a seizure as well, and I try to help comfort her just like she does for me. I don’t know what the cues are that she senses when I’m having issues. Wether she can smell it or sense it some other way. I know when Pepper is having problems from visual cues like the look on her face and the way she’s standing/sitting. I don’t recognize her symptoms until they’re visual. Typically only about a minute or two before she starts to seize. However she usually knows several minutes before I start to show symptoms of any kind. It’s nice to have the advanced warning before I have a seizure, but I wonder how she knows so far in advance?
More than half of my life ago, the family dog only watched one show. It was called Emergency and started with the sound of a siren. Where ever he was, when that sound played on the TV, he would run in, and sit in front of the TV for an hour

My rottweiler never cared about TV but my GSD loves nature documentaries, but weirdly she mainly just pays attention during parts with monkeys and apes and wolf howls (only the howls though) but not when humans or non simian are on TV.

About a week ago I was walking my pitty puppy through the park, and she stopped and sat down and stared at this dude looked back at me and was whining. when he looked up and made it clear he was interested in meeting her I let her go over, and as it turns out he was having a very bad day. She felt something there and she didn't even know him.

@@karismckinney3152 mine are so smart we've had to change the door handles because they've learned to open them but they've also straight up run into a tree.
My mechanic got a bit of a scare when he was working on my truck at my house and my rottweiler saw the truck door open and she jumped right in. He hopped into the truck not even seeing her sitting in the back, and he just about had a heart attack when she stuck her head out between the 2 front seats and locked eyes with him. Until she was 2 or 3 she took any open door as an invitation and if she heard keys jingling she'd run to the door and force her way through if you opened the door an inch.
Second story: i had her off the leash at the woods near my house when she was about 1. We used to have the same UPS driver that came to my street for her entire life at that point and that driver always gave her top quality lamb jerky treats, so she quickly associated those big brown vans with tasty treats. When I had her at the park that day there was a different UPS driver that stopped by a house across the street from the woods. While he was dropping the package off at the persons house my dog jumped into his van and waited in back for him. I was shouting for her but neither the dog or the driver noticed me and the driver got into his and saw a 90 pound rottweiler waiting next to his seat and he literally leap out of the van in terror. He calmed down when he realized she wanted to eat the treats next to his seat and not eat him and he laughed about it afterwards.
She's a sweet heart but rottweilers trigger a primal fear in people, what with their war paint markings, offensive lineman bodies, and giant heads.
I used to think it was cool but my border collie learned “walk”, then she learned how to spell it, then she learned “trip”, “wander”, “run”, “explore”, “adventure”...right now we say “travel” but she hasn’t learned that yet lol

I had a bullmastif that would freak out and try to attack the tv whenever a horse would come screen, with or without sound. And when the horse when off screen she’d try to look around for it. It was adorable.
Had a Cavalier that did the same. Watched horse racing then ran outside barking at the wall behind telly 😂

I think so much is determined on how they were raised. I've had many papillons and while the boys are quite similar (EXTREMELY affectionate and need to be touching you at all times) the girls were very different, but I'm aware they also had far more complex starts to life.
My dogs love to watch Star Trek and Lifetime Movies (especially at Christmas). My pit bull even prefers TV over a walk, but he is 12 and has been kind of lazy for 12 years now

One of my dogs gets really interested in anything to do with animals, especially dogs and it doesn't matter if it's animated. Fox and the hound got him super interested. I think a lot of times its mostly the noises that grab his attention but he also seems interested in the visuals.
Could you in the future annotate the video with time codes for each question answered, or put it in the description?

My poodle knows which commercials have dogs or cats in them by the jingles. He’ll sit and wait for them to show up so he can bark at them. I keep the remote close by.
Sometimes they are smarter and more caring than we ever realized.
One of the things I loved about my beautiful Gorda, a Belgian Malinoise ( Now forever gone from me. ) was her intuitive ability to seemingly understand what I was trying to do, doing or anticipate what I was about to do, even though she had seen it only once or in some cases never before. Get involved and assist like it was really her job all along.

My dogs absolutely glue themselves to the TV when a certain presenter is on (Paul O'Grady), especially when he's doing his dog rescue show "For the love of dogs". They're transfixed when he's on, it's kind of adorable :) no yapping, no running around, just memerised pooches lol
WE had a dog that weighed over 200 pounds who ate almost 14 pounds of chocolate. We thought the dog would die cause it was so much, but she was fine. (it was around easter and she had gotten into all the chocolate at the house)
Our Rottweiler definitely watches tv. She reacts more to dogs and cats than to people, but she gets really worked up anytime she sees people on screen fighting. Also, she’s reacted to some animated stuff, particularly The Dragon Prince, which uses some hybrid computer generated imagery.
I had a dachshund as a kid. One year on my birthday, she jumped up on a chair in the dining room and then up onto the table. She ate half a chocolate sheet cake, which was probably about a quarter of her body weight. She didn't even get sick. She did get a heck of a spanking, though.
My dog used to watch the camera monitor, he knew when he seen something (or someone) on the monitor that it was at the back door.
I got a driveway-doorbell (motion sensor at the end of the driveway with a base in the house that plays a tone like a doorbell) and I'm afraid our dogs are learning what that sound is.

My dog's generally aren't interested in the TV but when I put on videos for cats that have mice squeaking and running around the screen my cats absolutely love watching the TV screen and swating at it.
Dogs have so much better hearing than humans that at a meter they can hear our hearts race. I had a blue heeler mix that I believed was telepathic but decided he could have been the greatest poker player.
When my puppy was diagnosed by cancer, it was very late in the picture (like 3-4 days left due to complications, symptoms having been covered by the medications that he was on for his arthritis), and the vet said that giving him chocolate wouldn't shorten his life in any way, so we gave him a few little bits of chocolate, and he wasn't the biggest fan of it, which might make you feel a little better about not being able to give your dog a taste.
My dog loves watching TV. He'll start whining when he sees a dog (or a cat) - sometimes even the animated ones.

I had a dog who had a handful of favorite TH-camrs. Whenever she heard them, she'd sit quietly and watch. If a favorite TH-camr had a surprise cameo on another video, she'd jump up and run at the TV with her tail wagging, like a good friend of hers had walked into the room.

My 13 year old toy poodle has learned that if she wants attention, she noses my tablet and turns it off. She's also very good at training me!

My dad has some neighbours who we've known forever. They had a Maltese Terrier who was the most pampered dog i ever knew, they wpuld even leave the TV on for him during the day while they were all out.
The one thing that was overlooked in the "Can Dogs Smell Fear" portion of the video (re: acting more aggressive or not) is that dogs that are fearful often become agressive due to the fear (feeling the need to protect themselves). In the dog training world it's known as fear-based aggression. So, yes they can (as was acknowledged) and yes it can make a dog react aggressively (depending on the background/history of the dog and the person it's interacting with at the time).

8:03 my parents started putting one of those channels for dogs on the TV when they left for work and it apparently helped with their dog's destructive separation anxiety behavior. Also, if you like to indulge in the ol' Devil's Lettuce from time to time, those channels are quite the experience.

4:00 Any dog can learn new things at any age; You just have to make the learning process fun. Just like humans learn better when the learning is interactive and entertaining, dogs learn better when the learning is made into a game.
And, just like people, dogs enjoy showing off how smart they are, and they enjoy demonstrating what they have learned.
I wonder what they say about cats watching TV. My kitty absolutely loves watching funny cat videos with us. He gets so invested and it is adorable!

My dogs and cats have both shown behavior that still amazes me. My first dog taught one of my cats to sit for treats. After my dog passed, we adopted another dog. He didn't sit for treats until he observed my cat sitting for treats. We recently adopted some kittens. Guess what the dog did? We showed them that by sitting, you are more likely to get a treat.
My dog went into my suitcase and ate a 1/4 lb of chocolate that I bought in Belgium and he didn't budge!! My boy is a tank!! 😂😂😂 I'm so glad he was okay 😳
Oh man, that must have been scary for you. Glad he was okay. :) My brother's dog ate a lb of fudge once. She also ended up being okay thankfully. Another time, my mom's dog ate a whole bar of dark chocolate. My mom realized what had happened only a few minutes after it happened, so she was able to induce vomiting and the dog didn't get a chance to digest it. If you ever need to induce vomiting in a dog, 1 ml of hydrogen peroxide per lb of dog (squirt it down their throat with a syringe) is an effective way to do it. Using dish soap, mustard, etc can actually be dangerous.

In addition to the size of the dog, the type of processing the chocolate goes through can make a difference too. Higher levels of processing/heat exposure help break down the theobromine making some products a little less dangerous. Still not good, but less dangerous.

My aunt and uncle's golden retriever would change the channel on the tv to her two favorite channels when she got board with the tv show that where watching. lol she would change it to news and animal planet.
And she would look back at us after she changed the channel and you could see on her face that she had a big smile on her face.
If she was still with us she would have loved to watch one or all of the channels for dogs.
You're guy's remember me of her change the tv to wait she wanted to watch. Thank you for the happy remember of her being happy that she could change the channel when ever her wanted too.
My dog recognizes any animal on tv as an animal, even cartoons that are highly stylized. She watches tv and waits to see animals and loves to bark at them.

My dog watches TV sometimes, but he only really seems interested when, of all things, manatees are on the screen. For some reason he just loves them? Only time he’s ever been known to get really invested in the TV is when my mom was watching an Animal Planet show featuring manatees.

1) Dogs Can see color, but they merely are considered colorblind by human qualifications. They see in mostly yellows and blues.
2) old dogs can learn new tricks, they’re just slower at it and less interested in new stimulus
3) dogs can watch tv, but since they can perceive flashes up to 80 FPS, they find it rather dull. There are also more hues that they can’t see, since it is limited to mostly yellows and blues.
4) dogs can’t eat chocolate due to theobromine and how it takes longer to break down
5 + 6) dogs can smell our sweat and also get afraid when we are, hence their use as guards in our species’ past. They also process tone of voice, gestures and posture for similar reasons.
Our dog Benji LOVES TV. When he sees an animal running across the TV he charges at the TV and tries to chase them.

My brother's dog used my laptop once, it was unlocked but the screen was off and he turned on the screen and started watching Our Planet. I had paused it and left the room and he wanted to keep watching

Years ago,I was hosting an orphan Xmas for friends who couldn't make it home, or simply didn't have anywhere to go, for Christmas. I had made 4 different varieties of brownies (no, none of them were "special" brownies, not that year), like, plain, with walnuts, one with caramel & the other raspberry (or something like that). I had arranged a mixture of all on a couple of serving platters, which I put down on my coffee table so I could quickly use the bathroom before guests shortly started arriving. When I emerged from the bathroom, to my horror, ALL the brownies we're gone! All 4 dozen! I had two dogs at the time. First I looked at the female (as she was usually the one who couldn't understand the rules). She stood confident, if not a bit goofy, looking me in the eye, tail wagging, tongue hanging out. Then I looked at the male, with his head below his shoulders, tail between his legs, trying to avoid eye contact, creeping ever-so-slowly away from me & the scene of the crime. In a panic, having always been told that chocolate was poisonous to dogs, & expecting people full of holiday cheer to start appearing at my front door any minute, I jumped on the phone to the nearest 24hr Veterinary Emergency Clinic to find out what I should do. I explained to the vet over the phone that my dog of around 45-50lbs had just devored 4 dozen brownies. He told me to start preparing plain white rice to feed to my dog. "Why? Does the starch absorb the chemical in chocolate that:s poisonous to dogs?" I asked."No," he replied, "but it makes cleanup easier for you. Your dog is going to have the worst diarrhea of his life for the next couple of days." "So it's not going to kill him?" I asked. The vet chuckled & said, "He'd have to eat a helluva lot more chocolate than THAT to kill him!" I was surprised to hear that, & thought, "Really? Coz if I ate 4 dozen brownies in 2min flat, I think it would kill ME!"
What you REALLY don't want your dog eating is citrus fruit, but again, it's all relative to the size of your dog & how much citrus they have ingested. I knew someone whose Maltese died after eating just one grapefruit, while there's a video here on TH-cam where a guy has all 4 of his dogs sample various citrus fruits, & they eat quite a bit if it!

Anyone who has had a rescue dog knows that adult dogs can learn. It takes longer due to habit and trust issues but it's wonderful when it happens.
One of my dogs, Lisa, growls and barks at my computer when pictures of animals are on my computer screens. For some strange reason, she also watches battle scenes on my TV with rapt fascination.

Older dogs definitely learn new tricks, my 4 legged little girl learns new and crazy things every week! she’s 7 now, and teaches the new pups to our local park how to play various dog games (as well as human created games like fetch/ball playing), how to swim in the deeper parts of the stream, and so many other good behaviours for puppies to learn.... including acceptable dog etiquette 😊💗🥰

I had a cat that loved the movie Predator. As soon as he heard the opening cadence of the music, he'd run to the room and sit down in front of the television. I'm not sure if it was the sounds or the killing of humans that entertained him lol.
