Dr. Ekberg, I’m reading about hypothyroid and not eating Cruciferous vegetables and this came up:
“Fats have been found to disrupt the body's ability to absorb thyroid hormone replacement medicines, says Stephanie Lee, MD, PhD, associate chief of endocrinology, nutrition, and diabetes at Boston Medical Center and an associate professor at the Boston University School of Medicine in Massachusetts.”
Thoughts? If this is the case then Keto would be out of the question?

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Dr instantly put me on Carbimazole, which in turn started messing up my liver. I stopped taking it and changed my diet (later to Keto) and I've been symptom free for almost 9 months and I've never felt so fit and healthy in my life! My point is- question every drug (you can say no to the doctor) and change your diet.

Hi Dr Ekberg, I’m a 45 y/o female who just had a complete blood panel done including auto immune antibody test for the thyroid. All blood work came back phenomenal except auto immune test points to hashimotos. I’ve been doing a lot of research and remember one of your videos was talking about sucralose being created due researchers finding a pesticide was sweet. I put 2:2 together and looked up whether there was a correlation between artificial sweeteners and thyroid issues. Low and behold there appears to be a strong correlation. I am going to get myself off of artificial sweeteners and get tested again as a case study of a 52 y/o woman who had the same situation and her levels went down by avoiding them. I wanted to post this in case anyone is reading or if you have any insight to share. Thank you so very much for all of your videos. They mean everything to us in a world with very little real 1:1 healthcare advise and too much pill pushing!

Thanks Dr.Ekberg for this presentation. It was really easy to understand.
As a hashimoto patient here are some tips from me:
-Stay away from alcohol: If you take alcohol regularly or in high volumes, you are destroying your liver and upsetting your guts. An unhealthy liver can't produce T3 and T4.
-Avoid gluten: Gluten causes inflammation in guts and that's going to reduce the amount of inactive T3s being activated in guts. Also, gluten can mimic thyroid hormones and that causes immune response if you have hashimotos.
-Supplement Selenium: Selenium is an important substance that helps with detoxification of heavy metals which are harmful for thyroid. Selenium also helps with glutation which energizes thyroid cells so they are more active. Selenium also has a vital role in a mechanism that protects thyroid cells from immune attacks. Check your selenium blood levels, and take supplementaries if you lack it.
-Avoid stress: This is not easy thing to do, but you can always change some stuff about yourself. Try having positive outlook at life. Maybe learn meditation,or find hobbies that can relieve your stress. You can even try therapy sessions if you have difficulties.
-If you have hashimoto, taking synthetic thyroid hormones will cause immune response, and over time, you will lose more and more tyhroid cells and production. This will only make you increase the synthetic dose and that will further aggravate the problem. So it is an endless cycle UNLESS you are willing to change your lifestyle and eating habits. Just don't increase the dose by your own decision. Always get a professional opinion and don't neglect your regular blood analysis.

I experienced nearly every symptoms (especially hair loss, anxiety, depression, weight gain and feeling cold all the time) and im on a medication for about 1,5 years now. After i took medication, i felt normal but i experienced fatique all the time, after yoyo dieting and gaining over 10kgs, i started IF then im currently trying to get into ketosis, i feel amazing, like i never lived so much in my entire 21 years of life. I regrew a thyroid that had mostly been removed when I was 10 years old. It was hyperactive. In my twenties, I started a macrobiotic diet which is whole grains, beans, veg and Seaweed. Seaweed stimulates thyroid function (not for hyperthyroid). I had an ultrasound in my thirties that confirmed it was fully there and functioning normally. Had they not left a piece in, I doubt it could have recovered. That diet also cured my allergies (miso soup everyday helped heal my gut). I know some people have difficulty with grains and beans but that diet worked like a charm for me.

Now I’m on Synthroid and I’m still just as sick! It’s awful living like this, the strange thing is I also have a lot of the symptoms of being hyperthyroid that you’ve described. I have zero faith in the medical system. my doctor keeps telling me to lose weight because I have also been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes….right….like that’s just so easy! I feel like a complete train wreck. I have started to cut out sugar and carbs. Just finished my second day. I am determined to get healthy if I can! These videos have helped more in just two days than any doctor I’ve ever had.

I was born without a thyroid gland, been taking meds all my life, as I get older it gets harder to lose weight but I am working on this, one by improving my diet and more exercise
I am waiting for an appointment with an endocrinologist But I know I need to be tested for T3 rather than just TSH, Most GP's in the UK only test for TSH which is not sufficient to get optimal function.

I really love your videos. They have helped my husband get his glucose levels under 100 without medication, from diet alone. They had been over 200. I have had hypothyroidism since the end of the 1980s. When the doctor came into the room, she said that I should weigh over 300 pounds. I weighed 110. My TSH was not high at the time, but my hormone levels must have been awful low. I did not get to see the test results back then. They asked me if I had had a head injury. I had. I was in a car accident where I was thrown out of the car and used my head like a shovel into the embankment. They said that the pituitary gland was not sending enough stimulating hormones to keep my levels where they should be, that they would not be using the TSH, but would work to get the hormone levels into the normal range, which took about 5 years. My energy levels at that time were very low. I slept a lot and needed help just walking short distances. After my levels were normal, my family doctor took over the prescription until about 2015 when my doctor retired. Since then I can only find TSH only endocrinologists. They took me off my thyroid meds completely, which was disastrous. They kept lowering my meds to get their ideal TSH. Meanwhile, my T4s and T3s kept dropping. My T3s especially have kept dropping. I was on Synthroid. I am now just switched to Thyroid Armour, but apparently the dose is way low. My T3s are supposed to be above 80. They are 44. My free T4s are .65, but should be at least .80. Is there any help for me? I eat whole real food. I don't eat processed food. I am not diabetic. My glucose levels run between 88 and 99. I can't find a doctor to help. I did find some doctors here that use a more holistic approach, but I am on a 10 month wait list to get in to see someone. I have a lot of thyroid symptoms, but the doctor says that my symptoms have nothing to do with my thyroid. Please advise.
    Thank you, Lola Brown

I grew up on the east coast of the U.S.. In my 30's we moved to the Midwest where after ten years I developed a goiter. Went to doctor, he said my blood work was good, so I live with a goiter. Took iodine for a while but it made it worse. Now I take no meds, try to eat healthy,( I love broccoli, but I stay away from soy products) and because I despise the cold I started doing the Wim Hof breathing and cold therapy. My goiter has shrunk to half it's original size now and I feel great!

Thank you so much for your explanations. You even introduce medical terms and help viewers learn about them as well as the main topic. One problem I worry about is, when I drink water from a plastic container, I can feel the plastic on the roof of my mouth! So, I think plastic is entering my body. I have heard that wrapping food in plastic and heating it can leach plastic into the food we eat. Your explanation of medical "care" is correct. Most doctors do not understand how the body works; specialists isolate one part of the body and ignore the rest. I take a synthetic thyroid medication but my skin is cracked and blistered (as if I had a bad sunburn) my hair is so dry I have to add conditioner or oil to it, I have been so tired for so long that I don't feel like doing much of anything, let alone exercise (which I know I need). When I was 8 I had a streptococcal sore throat and developed acute glomerulonephritis; after that, I fainted a lot and hit my head (anemic) and never had any Stamina. From 10 to 40 I did fairly well, but in the last 38 years I am tired all of the time and my skin and hair are dried out. Lately, I've had bladder symptoms (also bowel problems which I regulate with docusate). I try to eat fresh fruit (but can't find ripe fruit); I eat spinach, green beans, onions and cabbage, liver (but can't eat fish because of some unpleasant associated memories). I also eat beef as well as chicken, butter, eggs, half and half (to swallow pills). I used to eat a lot of sugar but only eat one kind now (mochi 18 grams each) as much as eight mochi a day. I am trying to stop sugar using your advice from another video. I take a vitamin pill each day.

First I would like to say thank you, you’ve helped me so much, no only to understand the whole insulin/ cortisol issue but also how to use intermittent fasting to help change it. Recently, my TSH was tested and the doctor said it was unbelievably high ”18” of coarse he increased my medication to two tablet’s a day and I was told to try it for two months. Within 2 weeks my throat was swollen and sore. After three weeks it became painful, my thyroid was then popping out of my neck, which it had not been doing. My hair was falling out in chunks and life suddenly turned upside down. Eventually I realized it must be the medication and stopped taking it. Got retested and now was diagnosed with an overactive thyroid. Not knowing what to do and since my thyroid and surrounding glands were still swollen I refrained from the medication until my thyroid and the other glands relaxed. I then Went back to the doctor and was retested and told that my numbers are fine. BUT that I should continue to take the medication 1 3/4 pill instead of two. I didn’t agree so just waited, to try to figure out what to do but my hair was falling out so much I got scared and started the medication but just 1 1/2 instead since I was initially taking 1 1/4 of a pill. I don’t know what to do , if I was living in the US I might visit your office but these days I’m not. Yes my liver was ver bad and I had leaky gut and everything else and although it’s been a few years and I’ve seen improvements there’s still issues. Is there anything else I can do? Help!

Hello Dr Ekberg, could you do a video on Graves Disease/Hyperthyroidism?My endocrinologist has no idea about the mechanisms of this issue. All he wants to do these past 13 years is to give me radioactive iodine but refuses to see the importance of addressing the root cause and what can be done to combat it.I do not have the symptoms of Graves anymore but my TSH is at 0.01.I'm feeling better after all these years battling Graves thanks to repairing and rebuilding my immune and digestion systems through eating a plant based diet and supplementing with plant based nutients like spirulina, chlorella, moringa and shilajit.I've also been taking msm and raising glutathione levels.I thank you in advance.Cheers!
