Fun fact: the sinking of the 1715 Plate Fleet was the primary cause for piracy in the Caribbean as the horde of unclaimed gold and silver drew many famous pirates from around the world, some of which included Blackbeard, Edward Jennings, Anne Bonny, Calico Jack, Black Bart and Stede Bonnet. The 1715 fleet also plays a pivotal role in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Edit: Much of the treasure from the fleet is still undiscovered, it's estimated worth today is well over 2.5 Billion dollars.
no lol. piracy was going on since Columbus's time. the "golden age" of piracy is what you are referring to, but that started 30 years before the 1715 fleet. the biggest reason was the war. Navies (English, Dutch) had no need for skilled sailors after the war, so thousands were suddenly without work. that was the catalyst to go against harsh treatment and crappy pay.
Which is why people should get free reign to go look for it insted of this bs leasing that shouldnt be allowed as all it does is cut out the normal folks.
Amazing video Jake!! Amazing to see historical pieces of coin, silver and gold! Could tell you were so stoked to find everting that you did! Keep it up man you amazing! 👍😀

That was so EPIC. I love going metal detecting and I found a silver standing liberty quarter before. My parents gave me a four reales necklace for my birthday. This is the best video EVER!!!!!!
Just a note that should be said, using a metal detector in the water and not being on the lease(the entire east coast of FL is leased) will get the sheriff's department on you with some major fines. Apparently they paid off the government to not allow recreational detectors to even go ankle deep in the surf on public beaches. Its a crock of BS.
It’s the state government that leases the rights to the lease holders. Not the other way around. The government made that rule of not allowing it in the water. Every find has to be documented with exact gps coordinates and go through a conservation process. Then, turned into the state yearly to go through admiralty court. All the wrecks are considered archaeological sites. Just so you know the correct information.
@@cgraerials1995 I'm aware how things work but it's a crock of BS. I can understand the immediate area around a wreck being off limits but preventing recreational detectors walking even a few inches into the surf on literally every public beach from St Augustine to Miami is ridiculous. Quite sure there were payoffs involved in getting this established.
I have a pair of silver coin earrings from that ship, called Atocha, that sank in 1622, that Mel Fisher found. I bought them maybe 35 -40 years ago. Yes, I do have a certificate of authenticity. They are cool! It's fun to have some treasure!
@@heroooo9684 I really couldn't say, with any verifiable accuracy. The actual Atocha wreck site, is said to be 40 miles west of Key West Florida, but actual accurate locations are kept pretty tight lipped, for obvious reasons. A lot of Spanish ships have gone down, off and around the coast of Florida, more than 50.
@@tuck6464 no it isn’t. It’s the 1715 plate fleet they are working. About 300 miles away from the Atocha which is west of Key West. The Atocha sank in 1622.
