It's a shame that Barbara didn't extend her return, because it would've created some very iconic scenes with Peggy stopping the wedding, confronting Sharon, Phil being shot, and a final feud scene between Sharon and Peggy. She'd have done such an asset if she were there for 9 episodes from 25th September to 9th October. I understand why though, because she'd been diagnosed with Alzheimer's that year, so overworking herself would've been bad for her health.
- Great analogy, I completely agree. I often too find myself thinking of the possibilities of storylines if certain actors stuck around, or if it was produced in a different way. Peggy could’ve had an iconic return at this time, stopping the wedding and confronting Sharon. But regardless, it was so amazing that Barbara gave the time to physically appear, she does a tremendous job portraying Peggy and I cherish the content we got from her. This was the period when I really started to hate Ronnie. Eastenders turned her into a complete psychopath. Once her obsession with having a baby was finally fulfilled she seemed to lose interest in Matthew. All she ever wanted was to control someone. She groomed Roxy for years and absolutely smothered her. Ronnie ultimately turned into her evil father even though she was so repulsed by him throughout her life. My hatred of Ronnie become so intense towards the end I was actually relieved they killed her off. Where else could the character go? She was so dark and depraved, the only solution for her was that dismal drowning in that dark swimming pool.
