The displacement is a great addition most tutorial people don't include. Also if you're beams are moving behind objects use alpha channels and light rays to sell the light source creating light rays.

These were simulated in a 3D software like Houdini or C4D (or possibly Blender, as I believe this is what Ryan Thompson uses). It could potentially be done in trapcode particular, or Fusion's built in particle system, but that's less likely.
I love ur tutorials don't get me wrong. but as a college film student I cannot be affording 73 dollar packs for every tutorial. Please try and be more accessible.
