    Much appreciated sir! Found this video and it gave me the confidence to take it on. Saved me the cost of a tow and repair fees.
    My car got stuck away from home, the key would go to On but not over to Start. I tried wiggling the key for 30mins before i gave up and found this video. I ended up taking the ignition assembly out and banging it around until the key would turn over, put it back in and got the car home to finish the job.
    Hardest part was chiseling the headless bolts to get them out. It was very discouraging until i noticed they were turning just very slowly, then they loosened enough to removing with my fingers. Getting the ignition switch out was also a nightmare. I lined up the whole with the dote on the black rubber and played with it for 10-15mins before it released.

    Just want to thank you for making this video. Ended up getting into my car on Wednesday night after getting a few things for Thanksgiving, and my key will not turn. Yep, you’re video saved us hundreds of dollars $$ and you explained things so well, my son in law was able to replace it while I held a light so he could see better lol
    If you end up having to do this, use a punch point to get the two big security screws out. Trust me on this.
    Thanks again!

    Dude. I had this problem on my 2012 Passat and i simply watched this video, ordered the part and got after it. Now it took me roughly an hour but, it works great now. My wife and I almost got stuck about 2 hours from home and luckily was able to mess with it til we got it started. We were stuck for 45 minutes until it finally started. So on the way home she drove while I watched this video. I don't comment on alot of stuff, well, unless its music related. Lol. But, I honestly feel that had I not seen this. 1st off, I wouldn't have had the confidence to tackle it, and 2nd would've probably just paid somebody way more than what it cost me. Plus the time of not having my car. So Yeahhhhhh. Very valuable information. Thanks so much. Peace!!

    Thanks for uploading this! It turned what would have been a surely ridiculously expensive repair from the VW dealership into a $75 and couple hours of labor repair job!
    People like you are the real MVPs!
    To give more context, I tore the entire assembly apart to see if I could fix it. I was able to disassemble everything, however I found that some metal chunks had broken off the housing and were jamming things up internally. Upon reassembly, it was no longer jamming, but still didn't work correctly - I suspect the piece of housing that broke off is supposed to hold a retention pin in place, but is a weak point prone to failure.

    I couldn't get the key to move at all, so I cut the cylinder in half and pulled it apart. Then the key would turn -and I found a tiny little pull spring that was chewed up inside the cylinder -that was the problem. A 10¢ part cost me $200 😂
    Don't be afraid to cut it in half.... Oh and for the pin to unlock it -i used side cutters to snip off a piece of wire from a dollar store wisk. It fit perfectly.

    Thank you!!

    You did a video on a 2012 Jetta ignition replacement. I have a new lock and assembly. The lock was made to my VIN and fits my key. I’ve put the two parts together and I can move the key from on to start, and it springs back, but I can’t move it to off (or get the steering wheel lock button to pop off). Will there be any problems if I reinstall it to the car this way? Does it need power to go from on to off? Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

    How did you pull the ignition cylinder off of the steering column? It feels fastened on still after removing the breakaway bolts. You seemed to snap it off somehow. Any advice?

      There are 2 little plastic tabs that hold up the cylinder until you get the bolts in.

    So I have this problem when I removed the cilinder the steering wheel went in lock and now it can’t come free and the cilinder won’t fit anymore because it doesn’t align any more. Is this a kill switch that I triggered or what? Thx for your video! It’s great fun right.

  • @carlingas666
    @carlingas666 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry to keep commenting. So the bolts that hold the assembly to the steering column doesn’t have any thing screw off just use a punch to unscrew it?

    • @deamonmachine
      @deamonmachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a sharp punch (not a chisel) to hit a notch into it that will bite, then hammer it "off" using that notch to push it, then eventually it'll just unscrew using that hole.

    • @deamonmachine
      @deamonmachine  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of banging and shaking. Basically there's loose broken parts inside there, so they are jammed somewhere they shouldn't be, you gotta get them to move (in an unknowable direction).. It's taken me 30 min to get some to dislodge, tap it with a hammer, smack it on a table while trying to wiggle the key at the same time.

  • @MuyGonzo

    Trying to remove the housing from a 2012 Passat, which I assume is the same or at least similar. I can get to the point where the security bolts are removed (thanks to the prick punch tip!), cables unplugged, etc. HOWEVER, I cannot for the life of me get the darned thing off the column. I can't find any tabs or anything close to allowing me to remove the housing. I see that a tool was used to move something on the opposite key side that allowed it to come off, but I can't seem to find anything that I can move to do that. Any ideas???

      Follow-up: Yes! I got that darned thing off. And of course, once I figured it out, it's a piece of cake if I ever have to do it again. Basically, on the right hand side (facing the wheel), where the housing is snapped in, you need a flathead screwdriver to shove in there and "pop" the latch by using a twisting motion. I used a smaller width, long shaft one to do it. Basically, I got to the point where I said "If I break it, I break it", and lo and behold, it unlatched.
