I think you forgot the pinning step where under the cloth physics you assign the vertex group to the pin group in order to prevent the flag from just falling straight through the floor. Hope this helps someone cause I had to look it up.

@@jschlurg And it still didn't work. It just falls straight off. I've started over three times now, and the material falls to the ground every time. Also, if I enable self collisions, the material crumples itself up and goes haywire.

you can extent it by changing the end frame on the bottom right. In this case it's Start 1 and End 250. If you want to animate for longer change the End number to a bigger one.

The small circular points on a mesh. In edit mode, if you press number 1 you’ll be in vertex selection mode and all the small points on a mesh are called vertices.
Vertex = 1
Vertices = Many
