- Here’s my experience with Basic AutoPilot in the City. How does it do? Is buying the FSD package worth it?

Most of my drive the basic autopilot takes care of on the freeway. In the city its not so bad... but would you fork out 10K for the FSD package?
Great video! I just bought my Basic Y and this answered all my questions about autopilot
Awesome
I like how the traffic lights are blinking, that really helps to see it better. I wish Washington state here in Seattle would adopt that
Thanks for this video John! very helpful
Yeahh 💯
Thanks John. Nice short basic tutorial. Exactly what I needed as a new Tesla owner.
Sorry for the super late reply, but no problem 😉
Thanks for doing this on Victoria drive, couldn’t have asked for anything more relatable 🤝.
💯
Awesome vid! Thanks!
Yeah for sure!
I love autopilot so much. I tested it compared to my lane keep on my Honda Civic and it’s like 100 times better
Amazing, collecting my model y in Ireland next week, got the LR, wasn’t sure about the basic autopilot. Thanks! The full auto is also taxed at purchase in Ireland, so nearly everyone is ordering after purchasing. But I don’t think it’s needed, especially in Ireland. Roads are nothing like Canada & US. Great video 👌🏼
Congrats! I’m sure you’ll love basic autopilot, and honestly it’s more than enough. Only in Canada and USA has fsd beta and that’s not even worth the full $12K USD, dont bother wasting money on it! Enjoy!
Do you actually get the visualisation of other vehicles on the screen with basic autopilot, or was that on the video because the car featured has additions?
What a car! , Absolute my dream car Model Y
It’s amazing for sure!
U should make more vids of this
I live in a city and have used my Autopilot while driving in off-peak and on-peak rush our traffic. The car does not reconize red lights or stop signs, BUT,...TACC is also engaged; the car slows down, the car speeds up and even stops based on the activity of the car infront or you. It is not FSD, but it is very usefull. The hardest thing for me was to TRUST THE CAR 👈🏾 I was wondering if others were willing to try what this guy did? Thanks for the video,...
Haha it’s definitely hard to trust the car 100 percent, but as you drive it on AP more you’ll start to understand its flaws and adjust accordingly. That’s what I do at least
The square steering wheel for tesla is perfect 👌😁 i know where can you get it in a great price 🤩
Haha I see you’re in Vancouver, I recognize all the streets
Isn't this basically the same as Toyota's Free Range Dynamic Radar cruise control? And the basic autopilot on the Tesla doesn't come with auto-parking like on the Prius?
More Tesla videos 😍
Can you have navigation and autopilot on at the same time?
Hey does your Y have the updated center console
Where are you located? (I suspect somewhere in Canada...)
perfect! just what I wanted (I have an X, not a Y though).
X is so much better than Y. You’re lucky
@@heyJohnEe aww no lol i prefer the Y’s layout much more. I’m just a kid btw my parents drive it
is standard autopilot follow with navigation?
The green light ding is on basic autopilot now
Yup it became a safety feature now
Today, as the law is and the stage being beta is not worth but when complete and laws changing to allow you to use FSD without pay attention then it will be a game changer specially for those that have regular commutes. Be able to work, take calls, answer emails on a long commute will sure pay for the investment. It would be great if Tesla allowed you to keep the FSD on your account and make it transferable so if you get a new Tesla you can bring it with you or you choose to sell with your car.
💯 fsd will be a game changer when the time comes. And yeah def would be nice if fsd follows you or transferable
10,000 USD. For me, that's a serious amount of money. If I believed that FSD will be nearly perfect within a couple of years and that the cost at that time will be a lot more, then maybe I'd gamble. But I don't like to gamble, so it's good to see that basic autopilot is useful in city driving. Our 2017 Subaru Outback's adaptive cruise waits too long and brakes too hard for my taste. I fear that inattentive drivers behind me are more likely to collide when that happens, so I slow down well before the car would on its own. Whatever car I buy next, autopilot braking will be a prime factor in making a decision.
You should check out FSD beta 10 videos. It's getting pretty close to being ready for a wide release. Tesla think it will be done within Q1 2022, so you should by it before it increases it's price once again
I feel it would be more worth it if FSD follows the driver not car. Otherwise everytime you trade in you get no trade in value or transferability for the price they charge here in canada.
I agree
Does the car switch lanes when you use the turn signal? And does if you went into a turn lane would it turn ? Without the full self driving ? Also if there is a red light and stop sight will it stop?
Non of those that you’ve mentioned. I have the FSD in my model 3, and at it’s current stage is much more an annoying than useful in the city
I ordered mine in Oakville with Basic Auto Pilot for the same reason. Didn't think it was worth spending the $10,600 for now. How's you experience after 1 year?
Def not worth it
nice
so there's no speed setting, right? It just goes the speed limit + offset. Right?
Yes, at least for basic AP
Is the car stop without pressing the break when the car go closer of another car in front of you with the basic autopilot ?
Yes
Without the car in front, it would have just kept running a red light, right?
With basic autopilot yup
@@heyJohnEe Thanks for this bit of information on stop lights with no vehicles in front of us, the Tesla vehicle will not auto stop on red lights. Does the Enhanced Auto Pilot do any different with stop lights and no vehicles in front of us???
Enhanced AP will also not stop at traffic lights or signs. You’ll need FSD package for any traffic related tasks
My view change it from 6.9k to 7k lol 😂
1. Is it the Basic Basic(meaning no charge at all) or enhanced autopilot? Sorry I am just surprised that the basic can do so many things already lol.
2. And do you have to touch the wheel once in the while to keep it active? Thanks
It’s completely free. Yea, you would have to touch it once in awhile to keep it active although the camera in the mirror might take over that task soon in an update
@@heyJohnEe Wow interesting, thanks!
What happens if you have BASIC auto pilot, you’re cruising down a busy street, and a red light or stop sign comes up? Will it literally not slow down or will it stop and stay there until you take over?
It won’t do anything, it’ll just drive straight through
Does the autopilot have green light chime?
Unfortunately not, but it should.. as this is a safety feature
What’s with the flashing green traffic lights?
Smaller streets flash on green
Means pedestrians controlled
So, if ur the first car on the traffic light, it wont stop when its red, correct? And it wont start moving when its green?
Does the full FSD make it stop and start again from traffic light on its own?
can the basic autopilot turn left and right when you set navigation to a destination? Or does this have to be on FSD package?
All of what you mentioned requires FSD. Not included in basic AP
I just picked up my Model Y . Do I have to activate something to show street lights. Mine doesn’t show signals or turns for me when I use the turn signal. I’ve only had it for a week. On the freeway it braked twice for no reason.
I just watched your display and noticed I didn’t have full self driving visualization preview on.
Yeah. Hopefully that does the trick
Does it auto-steer ?
It does yup
It doesnt stop at a red light???😅
Not with basic autopilot no
Did you pay the 10k or this video ito is about the basic autopilot option??
This is purely just basic autopilot you get for free
@@heyJohnEe so the price is 55k with autopilot already?
Is that the Basic Auto Pilot or the Enhanced Auto Pilot?
This is just basic autopilot
Is there a cost to this feature or this is included in the basic price?
@@singhsean1 Included
@@jayjoshi995 I’m getting this experience on my autopilot. Just picked up 2 days ago, new with the Tesla-Vision.
So why my model 3 2023 has a 2022.45.15 don’t get if is a 2023 model 3, can anyone explain me please
I think many people are stuck on 2022.45.15. You might need to open a service ticket to have them update your car manually through an OTA
What I wanted to point out is: in real life city streets, we have to change lanes, we have to turn left and turn right…. We don’t just drive in the same lane all the way to south of border or North Pole lol
In real life city streets you also have to face stop and go traffic, keep your car centered and brake/accelerate when it's time to do so. Having a reliable system performing these tasks is a quality of life improvement. Want to have FSD and have auto steering as well? Just open up your wallet and do it!
why did you have to turn off navigation at the start of the video?
Guessing so it doesn't talk over him?
What he said
Do u have enhanced autopilot ?
This is just basic autopilot that comes with the car
@@heyJohnEe will this basic autopilot remain forever with you or it ends at some point? I still didn’t get the main differences of basic and FSD? I’m planning to buy one and I think basic autopilot is more than enough for me… kindly help me understand more
Basic autopilot is more than enough and better than most systems out there. It’s for life
Is it possible to hack the car’s OS and get free FSD?
no
It is not autopilot, it is lane assist + tempomat + lead car.
Every company calls it differently but yeah that’s true
It is called Autopilot. The next tiers are called Enhanced Autopilot and Full Self Driving but the basic tier is still called "Autopilot".
the fact he called the car a device makes me cringe lol
I get mixed up sometimes lol
lay off him g
