I'm looking at getting myself a launch monitor and this seems like a fantastic budget option since I'm already on IOS. I really appreciate that you took the time to make this review. Thanks Gabe!
Was looking for something like this !!! Love the video and the channel- I get the people complaining that it’s “not free” as per the title, honestly it does detract from the video a little bit but hey still a great video !! Well done.
I’m using it and really like it. I don’t have space for a radar launch monitor, and can’t afford a SKYTRAK or uneekor eye mini . Another great thing with Golfboy is it works with foam practice balls and Almost Golf balls, making indoor practice much safer. You just have to add a custom ball setting for the practice balls. You can also connect the app to a second device so you can see your results without having to go around the tripod. Spin would be nice, but for the 7i down that’s not crucial, direction and distance and rough strike location is more important to me.
@@BrantAtwood-vd6bs funny you should ask, I've just been working that out this week as my wife is away on vacation. For 9i down, I'm using a ball called Foam Flight by Gosport, not sure if it's the same as Almost Golf, but it's fairly hard and lighter than a real ball. this one I'm trying at 1.25. for 8i up, I use the super light foam ones, as they're not as scary when I shank it. and am using 1.18 as the adjustment factor. How I calculated it: I recently got to try my new to me irons at a simulator, and found that my 7i was carrying 140(miss)-173(lucky flush), so I guess the average was about 155yds. I didn't track ballspeed, but I figure this is around an 80mph swing, and using an efficiency of 1.36 I estimate this is a ball speed of about 108mph. Golfboy was recording my ball speed with the 7i and the light foam balls around 92mph, so it's 1.18 to get it back to 108mph. Since the foam balls launch quite a bit lower, carry is still off by a bit, but I'm mainly using Golfboy to look at my launch direction.
Same, just starting so don't want to blow the budget on higher end equipment just yet, and great idea btw for the foam/Almost golf balls. Question are you using airplay to connect to an external monitor/tv? If so, does it blackout the phone screen and you have to disconnect airplay every time you want to switch clubs, or does the golfboy app & iphone somehow make it a seamless process?

Seems like a decent option for $7 a month. I wouldn't mind spending $$ on a good simulator - launch monitor, but it's the continuing subscriptions you have to pay for after that gets annoying and keeps me from shelling out the money to start with. Already having an iPhone and just needing to pay the $7 a month is appealing. I may give this a go and try it out for a while. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks … Not sure why there is so much fuss about the free statement … as you said free if you already have iPhone and 1st month subscription is free.. so you can cancel and have only paid for a tripod .. some may already have that as well ! Anyway what the great thing you did is compare it with much higher cost , high end equipment and with your adjustment factor of a custom ball gave you pretty good results … that is the facts I needed and will definitely give it a try … having those stats right in front of you after each stroke is such an inspiration to improve.. many thanks for taking the time to explain Golfboy pros and cons.. me being a newbie to golf it’s all pros for a really affordable option IMHO 👍
iphone pro's have LIDAR which is used for facial rec and photo but I wonder if this app could leverage that or if that is capable of being used to give spin? Seems pretty cool.
Great video. I tried this app out today. Still trying to figure it out. It didn’t work at all on a lot of my shots. Question: Do you have to tell it which club you are using or can you just change from club to club and still get the correct measurements?
It is likely an issue with the installation environment. If you could send several images showing the hitting area and the installation environment to golfboy support desk, we will be able to quickly identify the cause and provide a solution.
@@yousukefujita7326 thank you. I figured out what I was doing wrong in setup. Now I’m getting a reading with every shot. Can you provide additional information on the location of the Golfboy tripod you used in this video? Thanks.
I really like the video analysis, that is probably worth the cost. But I think I'll stick with my PRGR and Top Tracer. Now, if it had spin then I would jump on that but I don't see that happening with a phone app any time soon.
It’s probably an issue with the floor environment. Please try the following two suggestions: 1)Use a plain green mat. 2)Extend the mat in the ball launch direction by about 6.5 to 10 feet. The contrast between the ball and the floor is very important, so the mat needs to be laid not only under your feet but also for a certain length in the launch direction.
Another point to be aware of is shadows. If the shadows of tripods or people fall strongly on the ground where you’re measuring, it can cause instability in the measurements.
Just downloaded and used it with my 30” in tripod and was pretty close to my numbers with being under the height requirement hitting 75 yard shots. Going to get a 5ft tripod today and head back iut

🤣🤣
Should have done a giveaway to download the app for free. 😉
It's free, but it will cost you $7/month. That's not free. It's inexpensive, but not free.
They don’t even have the tri pod he’s using they probably sent it to him
When me and my golf buds see some idiot on the range with some sort of device, he's always the worst golfer there and should really take up another hobby.
Cool story. Here’s your cookie 🍪
@@LetsPlayThru Truth though. Its always some clown wearing country club type golf clothing, expensive clubs, bag, golf shoes, etc using launch monitors at the range and they're always terrible. There was a crew of three of them one day, all friends and when one actually hit a good shot, its was high fives all around. Then of course they all get into their 150k cars when finished. Surprised they don't bring a caddy to carry their clubs to and from the car.
@@23x31 cool story! Here’s another cookie 🍪
the tripod isn’t available yet
If you pay per month you get it for free, best salesmen ever.... 😂
”free TO DOWNLOAD and… small subscription fee” not a lie but definitely sounds like marketing material.
free!! in title (7 dollars a month) not free then!!
I really didn't understand the hate on this channel then he started talking about iPhone versus Android. Smh
Ahh I Phone ! Andriod all the way . I would buy a I Pad to use this but not an I Phone.
It’s not free if it’s $6.99 a month
It's not click bait! It's literally free. The subscription is separate from the product. That's like getting a free car and saying it's not free cause you have to pay for gas.
So what part of this do you _not_ have to pay for? I'm pretty sure the iPhone and tripod were not gifts...
"100% free" and "only $6.99 per month" are contradictory. You know that Ferrari I got was 100% free to look at in the dealership...
Please don't call it "free" if it's not free. $100/year is not free... Just sayin
No Android, no thanks
To everyone saying "it's not free if you have to pay a subscription", you're right. However, a lot of the other more expensive launch monitor devices also require a subscription after you purchase the device itself. So, this app is still a pretty good deal.
free is not $7 per month
Love the content, please don't click bait the title next time
Yeah. Saying it’s free is t accurate
So it's free at 6.99 per month 😂
7 dollars a month is not free .
You lie .
Why would i believe anything you have to say ?
Click bait title smh disappointing
NOT FREE. The app is useless without sending them money.
@@edw5208 incorrect. They have free trials and you can play the simulator without paying anything.
Shit ain’t free bruh
Not paying subscription
Not free obviously. But a very small monthly subscription. That likely you can only use during the season.
Click bait title.
That’s not free then is it
Not free. That’s a great way to get one less subscriber.
So....not free.
