Can I open a Thailand Bank account while on tour in Bangkok from a country that does not need me to obtain a visa for a thirty day visit? If yes, how long will that account remain open while I am away from Thailand? Or can I transact on that account from outside Thailand?.
Very conscise & useful. Thank you! Is there any method/process to open an account with a Thai bank prior to arriving in Thailand, even if the process might take much longer? Let's say that I am interested in retiring in Thailand, from the US, in about 2-3 years, and would like to arrange the transfer of funds for the retirement visa deposit, before leaving the US. Also, is it possible to open two bank accounts - one account for storing the retirement visa deposit only and another for handling living expenses? I am thinking that it would be better to keep the retirement visa deposit in a separate account, in order to make the proof of funds reporting a bit more efficient for the visa renewal process, each year.
Hello Michael, unfortunately, you can't open a bank account before arriving in Thailand, as accounts cannot be opened with a tourist visa and must be done in person. The best option is to apply for a Non-O visa, which will allow you to open a Thai bank account once you're here. You can also open two accounts if you'd like. If you need help with opening a bank account or questions about the retirement visa, please feel free to contact us +66 2254 8900.🙏
What about opening a bank account during that 90 day visa as the bank may ask "We need your retirement visa" or can a bank account be opened with the 90 day non immigrant visa?
Hello @ratnoinamaew7822, if you hold a Non-O visa, you are eligible to open a bank account. For more detailed information, please contact us at info@siam-legal.com. Thank you!
There seems to be a bit of confusion, and misinformation, online about the Non-O and Non-OA visas, for retirement purposes. Can you address the difference between these two visas, in a future vlog? It is my understanding that the Non-O retirement visa is actually a 90-day visa, which can be extended in 1-year increments. Is it true that the initial 90-day Non-O visa can be applied for, and approved/granted, while living outside of Thailand, using funds in a foreign bank to prove the financial requirement - for example, from the US, with the USD equivalent of 800,000 THB in an US bank? If so, would the application process be handled by the Thai embassy in the US, or by the immigration department in Thailand?
Thank you for your question! The Non-O visa is indeed a 90-day visa that can be extended annually. You can apply for it from outside Thailand using foreign funds to meet the financial requirement, typically through the Thai embassy in your country. I am looking for a legal consultant to walk me through the entire process of marriage laws, personal rights, property rights, laws about owning, or having a business as a foreigner and everything in between. I really need an exaustive breakdown of these things so I can make informed decisions before moving to thailand and protecting myself.
