The visa situation is much better now, especially for TH-camrs and digital nomads. Thailand will do his health great if he sticks to mostly Thai food and gets himself to the gym regularly.
Don’t talk nonsense. Nothing wrong with using a proper agent to find a condo. As for the visa, he can get one through an agent for about £450 without having thousands of pounds sat in a Thai bank account getting virtually zero interest. Instead he can have that money in a fixed interest bank account in the UK, earning more interest than the cost of the visa. He’s not an expat worrying about how much his small Chang beer is gonna cost.

Supermarkets are very good in Thailand. Places like TOPS have a great range for the everyday stuff and prices are reasonable. You even get food courts and places to eat, but eating out is very cheap in Thailand.
