    I've done extensive testing at 100 meters with my tikka t1x, tested over 35 different 22lr ammos and especially for 22lr the fouling is important. Some say shoot 3 fouling shots before groups, some say 1 round per inch of barrel. In my tests I only run a dry bore snake through the barrel when I switch ammo types, shoot 20 shots into the bank and shoot five 10 shot gropus. At least for my tikka, eley shoots by far the best for 100+, usually around 1 moa.

      Thanks for watching! I've heard about the importance of fouling, but never tested it myself. Might be a good subject for a future video.

      notice how the eley groups tightened up after the first group. like you said seasoning the bore when changing ammo is important although the jury is out on how many to season with.also many guns especially autos have first shot flyer syndrome.i had a Remington 597 that did this so I always fired a shot before group shooting or hunting

      tiputipu777 There’s another factor. Eley and most match ammunition use a wax based lube. Most sporting ammunition use a grease lube that isn’t a good, but doesn’t dry out over time.

      You're nuts man. Shoot 20 rounds of tenex into the dirt and you just literally wasted $10 and thats no joke. Why wouldn't you still just put them on paper?!?!?!?!

    Pertaining to how some mention ruger isn't an accurate platform.. you can get cheap ruger american rimfires and even cheap savages for usually less than 500, model depending.. I have a ruger american rimfire in 22lr and 22wmr, ive shot alot out of my 22wmr with CCI ammo.. it literally tears the same hole at 25yds, and does the same at 50. My 22lr needs a scope, as my blind eyes dont shoot irons well. But I love the video!

  • @bad_vaporizer

    You should always shoot a couple bullets prior to your test that's why you had flyers from the first 2 eley bullets. Pro shooters always shoot a couple off before starting

      I love watching ammo testing especially on 22lr ammo. I hunt small game and my base ammo I hunt with is CCI stand velocity. It's cheap and accurate enough. Of course I am always looking for a more efficient type that won't break the bank but to answer your question if the shooter speeds up the shooting and show the results I don't mind. Good job by the way

    Consistency is the difference.

  • @MorrisOutdoors98
    @MorrisOutdoors98 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Difference between ammo is consistency.. being precise is to be able to shoot a tight group almost regardless of accuracy.. whilst being precise and accurate youre almost sinking each shot into the same hole... match ammo is much more consistent in manufacturing and shooting, good rounds domt need to be zipping 1200-1300fps. You'll see alot of match rounds are shooting about 900-1100fps and they're heavier, usually 40gr minimum! The aguila makes 60gr match rounds that are deadly

    Thanks for the video ,like you said depends on what your using it for ....i also look at the general cleanliness of the bullets,federal black seem to be nice & clean compared to some other bulk packs ,which is important for semi autos ,my ruger 10 22,my cz shadow 2 & my colt woodsman all love the black pack & start misfiring on the buckets specials of others

    Eley is designed for guns with a match chamber. Using it in a gun with a standard SAAMI sporting chamber won’t show what it can actually do.

      a match chamber is the same dimensions / less tolerance, it isn't a different specification, but obviously because of that of course a match chamber will give better results but that's with any *good, consistent* ammo, but one type of ammo can't be made for a match chamber but not a SAAMI chamber

    Those first two Eley rounds should be discounted as fouling shots. Every rifle, rim or center fire, will sling the first two or three rounds when fired from a super clean bore.

    Interesting, unfortunately, wind and the human element are wild cards making the results a bit short of conclusive. If we ran a double-blind test could we pick out one brand or the other? Maybe and maybe not? Regards

    • @TheOldFatDadGoober
      @TheOldFatDadGoober  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! The neat thing about this test is that the wind and the human element are the same for each type of ammo.
      I'm the only shooter in both tests, so that takes the human element out.
      The test was done back to back in the same time period, location, and environment, so that takes those factors out.
      The only benefit to a double blind test would be if you think that knowing what kind of ammo is in the gun would effect my shooting ability. Which is not out if the realm of possibility. I'm probably not going to go to such lengths at this time.

      @@TheOldFatDadGoober Cool - It would be interesting. Note: I see guys trying to evaluate .22 ammo. in variable cross wind at 100 yd., IMHO: nearly impossible as a 10 mph breeze with std. velocity = nearly a 5" drift and wind changes shot to shot. Worse case scenarion a 10 mph crossswind that changes form left to right. Not likely in a few minutes but possible. I'm not suggesting all ammo is equal rather pointing out it is very difficult to evaluate. Good luck!

      @@TheOldFatDadGoober Nope, just the opposite: "Precision" means all the shots in a precise group - could all be 5 inches up and to the 5 inches left of the bulls eye, in a very tight 1 inch group. "Accurate" means they are all grouped around the exact place you want it to be (the bulls eye); but they could be in the right place, but not in a good tight group (say within 3 inches of the bulls eye), so that would not be "precise". What everyone is the shots to be in the bulls eye (accurate) and in a tight group (precise). It's also possible to be NOT accurate and NOT precise.... (me most of the time)
