    I usually put a handful of pellets in the Firebox so the igniter has something to start immediately

    Thanks, great stuff! I'm a cleanie and I took the grill grates and drip pan out after my first cook and washed it all in my deep sink in garage. Realized later that's not good as it doesn't allow grates to "season". Gonna cook my first pork loin today! Only my second cook. So excited!

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good luck on the Pork Loin Dave. There's different opinions on the seasoning but in my experience a smoker doesn't hit its potential in results until its 4-5 good cooks in (seasoned). Cleaning the heavy debris is important but I never really want to get rid of the seasoning, although some disagree. Thanks for watching.

      Chris, thanks for your support brother. Some say pellet grills are cheating. If your not cheating your not trying...right.. lol.. I can't speak for other pellet grills but the Rec Tec makes BBQ easy (no compensation from them at all). The food you can produce is just incredible. Thanks again

    Just a word of caution. I had a neighbor vacuum his firebox out (not Rec Tec) several hours after cooking and left the vacuum cleaner next to a wood paneled wall. Several hours later (no one home) his two year old home burnt to the ground with car in the garage, too. Make sure ash has no cinders!

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry to hear that. That’s a horrific accident. No matter what type of fuel (pellets, charcoal, wood) we should always wait at least 24 hours before disposing of ash. A mistake like this can happen so fast you don’t realize it until it’s too late. Excellent comment.

    How do you store your pellets? In the hopper or a separate container? How difficult is it to change pellets if your hopper isn't empty? Thanks!

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I leave them in their bags they come in but I keep them in my detached garage out of the weather. Its very simple to fill the Rec Tec with pellets. Open the hatch door and dump the pellets in. Thanks for the question.

    Have you notice any of the silicone sealant around the striker box coming loose as well as other seams?

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
      @DelmarvaBackyard  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No Carl I can't say that I have noticed any issues with the seals but now I will be keeping an eye on it. Thanks for sharing and I appreciate you watching.

      Mine is 5yrs old. Most of the hopper red silicone has peeled off and eventually made its way to burn pot for some nice cancerous smoke flavor

      I would touch base with Rec Tec. The warranty is 6 years although I'm not sure about what is and isn't covered. I do know they usually take really good care of their grill owners. It would be worth reaching out, in my opinion.

    • @achance007
      @achance007 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      they just mail a new tube of red silicone. I’ll eventually just try to find a better silicone brand. I tried the black paint they sent me for the peeling lower barrel and it wasn’t good. Ended up buying a high quality stove paint that lasted a little longer. Now I don’t care and just let it rust.

    • @bigslab7571
      @bigslab7571 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks guys, Rec Rec sent me the same tube of silicon, it’s blue. I’ve only had mine 1.5 years, I know shit happens but still there’s the whole get all the grease off etc to get the new seal on to make it stick. I started to ask them to send a guy out with the tube and do it for me! Lol

    For the money you spend on a Rec Tec it should come with a self cleaning feature for the ash. Like how Pit Boss has

    So, other than ash and grease removal from grill plates and ash around the fire box, what is the logic to any additional cleaning of the smoker? The commercial smokers and restaurant smokers seem to treasure the build up of carbon on the inside of the smokers. I'm going to have to research this....

    • @DelmarvaBackyard
