    I love how Galadriel looked at Samwise as she said "yet hope remains while the company is true." She looked in Samwise's heart and saw he would never betray Frodo. Sam is the unsung hero of the story. Frodo would never have succeeded without him.

      Molin J. He was making a joke. But Lady Galadriel can read peoples minds and when Boromir looked into her eyes she saw that he would betray the fellowship and this is why he starts weeping. She then later goes on to tell Frodo that he will be betrayed and the he knows who will try to take it and should be careful.

    This scene was a transcendental experience in the cinema the first time I saw it. This scene happened not long after Gandalf's death. I had never read the books. I had no idea Gandalf was coming back. It was as if his power and wisdom hadn't been enough to support the quest and some had to take his place, the fate of Frodo's journey with the ring had to be guided by someone else, someone more powerful - Galadriel.
    I watched them climb the stairs around the trunk of the tree towards Galadriel's home - it looked like a church that had grown naturally out of the forest. And then she stepped down the stairs, from above, from the light, enrobed in it. There was this air about her of "So... I must involve myself in the affairs of the material Universe, it seems. How does one do this? It has been so long. Ah, yes, speech, I talk now. That is what happens. Hm. Let me see. Words. How do they work? Ah, I remember... yes, I remember..." It was breathtaking. It was a lot to do with the point in the story in which she emerged, but my goodness it worked. The need to destroy the ring stopped being a matter of survival and urgency and took on this sense of something beyond, of divine purpose. As if the purpose of the entire world was for evil to be confronted and destroyed, and she was the only person who fully understood this.
    I was enraptured. It was more like being in a magic spell than watching a movie in a cinema. It was like God was talking.

    Only now do I realize how much that meant to Gimli, because one of the things about dwarves is that, just like hobbits, they are deeply tied to their homes, their kin, and Galadriel is telling Gimli to have courage, to keep fighting on, for there are people like him who have lost their homes and families to the war. Not only that, it's one of the kindest things an Elf has ever said to him.

    She looks at each member of the fellowship in turn.
    - First, Aragorn, from whom she learns the truth about Gandalf.
    - Legolas then speaks up and clarifies the details using words like a cave man.
    - Galadriel then looks at Gimli and is happy to see the purity of his heart.
    - Next up is Boromir. He does not enjoy his telepathy session.
    - Merry and Pippin get the briefest of glances.
    - She looks at Sam, and she likes what she sees (same as Gimli).
    - And then with Frodo being the POV character in this scene we see first hand what she's been doing to all the other characters. Poor Boromir.

    • @ViNtAgELovv11
      @ViNtAgELovv11 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Is that what she was doing? I didn't figure that. Because it shows her talking out loud after saying each line that could've been "telepathic".

    • @redryder3721
      @redryder3721 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@ViNtAgELovv11 I'm not deep into the lore like some people here, it's just the way I see the scene. But I'll just say what I can without elaboration here and explain why I jumped to the conclusion she's using telepathy with everyone.
      In lore, she can use telepathy (according to Google), and in the film, she appears to use it here, at least at the very end of this scene with Frodo. They show her eyes apparently making contact with Aragorn before she confidently says of Gandalf "he has fallen into shadow". She and Celeborn seem not to have known this beforehand, because Celeborn states his wish to speak with Gandalf. And then the camera focuses on nearly every one of the characters individually. Boromir is the only one to break down emotionally and avert his eyes, and she does not smile at him at all, almost as if she can see what is in his future. In contrast she smiles broadly at Gimli and Sam.

    • @Garfield1399
      @Garfield1399 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@ViNtAgELovv11 indeed she mentally-tests each member of the fellowship in succession, while talking. Showing that on film would likely drag out the scene way too long, so they only hint at it with Frodo at the end.

    @brawler707 7 ปีที่แล้ว +167

    Honestly I like the way Frodo looks at Galadriel. Everyone seems overcome by her beauty, aside from Aragorn who sees her as the queen she is. The way Frodo looks at her to me says he sees her as a fellow ring bearer, even though he wouldn't know she was one. You can see those knowing looks they give each other throughout their interactions. Here, when she waves him farewell as they leave Lorain, and epically during her drowned queen moment.

    • @Rhuddlan
      @Rhuddlan 7 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      Galadriel is also one of very few characters (like Glorfindel in Rivendell) who is a higher spiritual being. As Frodo carries the ring, he gets more sensitive to the other world; it's part of why he can see the true forms of the ring-wraiths and why he is able eventually to see the ring on Galadriel's finger. I like to think that in this scene he is seeing a dimension to her that the others can't.

    • @janetsminten8196
      @janetsminten8196 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Nothing could possibly stress out Frodo more than the burden of bearing the One Ring. Meeting Galadriel is a dramatic moment for everyone else and you can see it in their eyes, but Frodo has essentially seen some shit so to me his look is one of "meh, she's hot but whatever."

      And in the books even more. His kindness and valor is detailed best there. It describes how when he tried to convince Frodo to give him the Ring, his face was still filled with so much kindness, and how he sat down and cried after realizing he’d scared Frodo trying to take the Ring from him. His lament by Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli after his death is also heartbreaking.

      +Heather S She is usually believed to be stronger than all the others. Tolkien seemed to be stating that the older the being became and had origins in Valinor, the stronger he or she was.
      One example is her ability to not be "figured out." The confrontation with Sauron is highly likely. Why? Despite never believing she was truly beautiful, Sauron could not read her. He could read Aragorn, Gandalf, Saurman, and all Elves of the time except her.
      Tolkien was even asked once IF she could take possession of the Ring. In the movies, they simplify it and say "no one else can wield it, period." But Tolkien himself stated that if the person was powerful enough he or she COULD dominate it- though by doing so it would taint the individual and make them tyrannical. When asked if Galadriel could've, Tolkien replied she may have been able to. The Battle For Middleearth games expanded on this theory and actually have her wielding the One Ring.

    You can grasp and feel pretty good the majesty and history of the caracters. You can notice how Galadriel, born in Valinor, met the Valar and saw the light of the 2 trees, how she has Vanyar and Noldor heritage, and how she is related with the greatest in the history of middle earth. She is the daughter of Finwë, niece of Feänor, cousin of Turgon, Fingon, Maedhros etc... sister of Finrod Felagund and also related to Thingol. All the things she has seen... the death of the threes, the rise of the sun and the moon, all the ages of Arda, the noldor exile through Helcaraxë, the wars agains Morgoth, How Beren and Lúthien stole the silmaril, the fall of Gondolin, Nargothrond and Doriath where she lived with Melian, the destruction of Beleriand and the rise and fall of Númenor and Eregion... just wow. You feel she is different from the other elves and the rest of Characters.
