My dad's a jazz musician, never liked jazz much but when my dads band performed this with some of the best musicians in the UK, I was mesmerized, still listen to this one song all the time, fascinated me at 16 and still does at 44
At the end of 1980 when I was 17 years old, I bought a cassette of this album. After listening to it many times, I gifted it to my girlfriend. We love it to this day, even though we're not together anymore. It's really a sweet memory. It turns out I found the cassette again in 2002 in my parents' ouwarehouse even though it was damaged. Very uch thank you GRP
Met Mr Brubeck down town San Luis Obispo.....I was listening to this on headphones and let him hear and he gave me a pass to listen to him at his jazz spot.
I listen to this jazz masterpiece at at the University of Tulsa in the 80’s at KWGS with a DJ named “Aurora” studying at McFarlin Library. Incidentally i married a girl named Aurora at another university across town at ORU. I eventually left TU and chased the girl of my dreams. Every time i hear this song i think about chasing the girl of my dreams while listening to KWGS at TU. Thank for the memories Dave. This is bookmark for me in the 80’s. I love this compilation from one of the great Jazz recording artist from GRP of his time. 35 years later I’m still chasing the girl i married in the 80’s. Long live Dave Grusin!
@@carolineward5153 Ummmm, good point, Caroline! Why we should appreciate all beautiful things, not just music, while we're here. "Mountain Dance" is the theme from the film, "Falling in Love" starring Merryl Streep and Robert de Niro, made back in the 1980s - before Corona virus was on the world's radar. I love the film too, bit dated by today's standards, but still enjoyable. See it if you get the chance.
I remember when Iam buying the cassette for this album in 1981, when I was in high school. I'm sedated by this music. I really memorized every note of every song on this album. With my savings, I introduced this music to many of my school friends. GRP so my next stamp for buying tapes. Dave Grusin, Lee Ritenour, and his colleagues are my favorite musicians. Owsome ! Until next comes Bob James, Four play ...
Best Jazz Music ever. Missing all my peers with whom I enjoyed it in the 80s. The likes of Bob James, Groover Washington Jnr and Tiko Riko readily come to mind. A Jazz Masterpiece indeed!
I can still recall 20yrs back, when i was with a band called the Royal priesthood Organization led by Sunny Obawumi. Each time we play this JAZZ in any function, we are always at the top. Respect to Dav Grusin
I remember where I was the first time I heard Mountain Dance. Marie Lloyd House (block of flats), Hoxton, in our living room, standing still, transfixed in front of the radio. I totally get the love for Dave Grusin.
Was having dinner in a restaurant in Santa Fe years ago and this guy walked in and sat down at their grand piano and started playing... guess who? Needless to say I ordered dessert and stalled as long as possible before giving up the table. Love this song!
My dad's an avid Jazz fan and this song used to come on the local jazz station when I was a child. Appropriately, we lived in a mountainous area and needless to say this song brings back a lot of positive memories for me. I just can't stop listening to it! Dave Grusin is a great musician!
Nothing evokes such feelings like a great piece of music like this. The music in general is one of the most beautiful gifts we received from the Creator.
This particular album explodes with such superb tracks that defines the genius of Mr. Gruisin. This is a case in point as well as Friends and Strangers ; & City Nights; etc... Incredible album!
How would you like to had been the recording engineer or even assisting recording engineer in the studio the day this was recorded. They had to have known that day that they had a timeless classic... They had recorded one of the greatest piece of music ever produced in America.
God knows how many years I have been listening to Dave Grusin (I have just about everything he has recorded), and still, he amazes me to this day. What a stonking solo on this track. His musicality is just up there, buzzing with Rhythm and superb melodic ideas.
Superlative...takes me years back as a kid. I heard this...I remembered by dad...I associate this piece with him. Though I had no idea of the beauty of this wonderful composition then... Thank God he is still very much around
The first time I heard Dave Grusin's Mountain Dance I couldn't stop dancing. I absolutely fell in love with the song. I love it more now that I've seen it on Video.
I first recorded this onto cassette from the radio station KKGO 105.1 FM in 1981 and I never knew the name of it until now. Transferred it to CD in 2006. Thanx a lot for posting
Possibly the best performance of this piece by any line up the great Dave Grusin has assembled. Spare a thought for the monster talent that was drummer Carlos Vega, who tragically took his own life creating a loss to the music world of gargantuan proportions. Wonderful video.
Music makes me cry too. Sometimes it's so haunting it makes me feel like I'm in a far away land. Am I alone in this.. I wish I had ppl in my life that liked it with me ..
First heard this amazing song on an ancient, early 1990s ITV late night TV show called "On The Live Side". Fell in love back then, still love it to this day 🎶❤️🎹
I PUT THIS SONG IN MY TOP 25 SONGS EVERRR RECORDED. THAT I HAVE HEARD. THIS SONG IS VERY RELAXING. ROLL A JOINT AND LISTEN. OMG THKS DAVE FOR YOUR TALENTS
Wow, how wonderfully played by Grusin and everybody in this great unbelievable rendition track, marvelous to hear always, putting me to jazz rails fastly!! Jesu Joy mastered at an inspiring improvising touch! And the sound of old CP70! Pity this one is not normalized...
Master Dave Grusin still going strong in 2024
Rip Carlos Vega. Loved them amd grp
Is this current? Or old video?
As far as I know it was recorded at the record plant studio I think about 1985
It's all too fast. Slow it down a couple of clicks.
My dad's a jazz musician, never liked jazz much but when my dads band performed this with some of the best musicians in the UK, I was mesmerized, still listen to this one song all the time, fascinated me at 16 and still does at 44
This must be jazz at a doctoral level. The wizardry is unparalleled.Full respect to Dave Grusin. Ever green.

Oh yes sir

映画 恋に落ちてで初めて聴いた素晴らしい曲です。今でもドライブで車に乗っている時に流れてます❤
yes totally agree
Mountain Dance to my own view is the best jazz album produced by Dave Grusin.
At the end of 1980 when I was 17 years old, I bought a cassette of this album. After listening to it many times, I gifted it to my girlfriend. My Dad taught me about this song. I am proud to have a Dad like him. :')
Make sure you tell him that.
Met Mr Brubeck down town San Luis Obispo.....I was listening to this on headphones and let him hear and he gave me a pass to listen to him at his jazz spot.
Carlos Vega was such an amazing drummer. RIP
Thanks...
I used to see him perform at the Baked Potato on tuesday nites back in the 70's. He was amazing!!!
Carlos Vega an outstanding (A) drummer👏 taken 2 early

I remember this song when I was 14 , a strange music for a teenage back then , and still listen to it on my way to work now 32 years later
You were ahead of your time, young man

This never gets old! I'm still as in love with this as when I first heard it years ago.
Lee + Dave + Abe = brilliance

Without a doubt Dave is and will be one of the best musicians and composers to ever walk this world.....Long live Dave.

Jazztastic!! Brilliant....
Saw Lee and Dave in Tromsoe, Norway in 2019. They're still some of the greatest!
Wish it was me
Amazing how Grusin plays the melody of Bach´s Jesus, joy of man´s desiring in his improvisation at 3:05.
Nope it isn't.
yet it is! the 1st 14 notes, for sure. masterfully integrated.
YEP! the 1st 14 notes. brilliant.
Indeed. He appears to play around it shortly after the 2:30 mark before realizing the full tune at the said time!
WOW! Amazing that you picked that up! Kudos!
One my all time favorite songs. AND... THIS live version is the best!!
