    The course is divided into 5 units: Introduction, Blocking-In, Structuring the Features, Keying the Drawing and Modeling Form. Each unit is sub-divided into specific "lessons" that unfold sequentially as the drawing develops. Key concepts are raised and re-visited as they become relevant during the demo, while David draws and talks through his decisions in real time.
    The online course features:
    • 26 distinct lessons
    • 10 hours of video: nearly every pencil stroke is recorded
    • A complete start-to-finish portrait demonstration
    • Diagrams and animations to illustrate key concepts
    • A thorough discussion of drawing materials and their uses
    • Detailed supporting documentation
    • Question & Answer forum on each lesson page
    • Optional one-on-one personal critique service available for students (additional charge)
    This offering from Vitruvian Studio is unique among portrait drawing courses online. The length and breadth of the presentation is currently unmatched by any other online class -- and is well over 3 times longer than even the heftiest instructional DVD set on the market. Add to this the wealth of supporting documentation and discussion threads throughout the course, and it's clear that Portrait Drawing -- The Online Course is the best value in drawing instruction available on the internet.

    Amazing! The friendship the artist developed with his material/tools and paper is just amazing! This shouldn't take away anything from his observational skill of course. What a delight watching this clip 👑

    Exquisite work.
    For new artists, I tell them that a lot of this work is the result of knowledge.
    The more you learn, the better you'll get.
    It can take years, but is so worth it.

      True. Knowledge... and practice.

      @@VitruvianStudio Materials. Materials are making the biggest difference here. Not to detract from talent, practice and knowledge, any portrait artist needs that. Material choices you're making are outsourcing the "heavy lifting." Again, you're smart and aesthetic in manipulating them, so it's not devoid of merit.
      If you feel I'm making a disservice, try drawing on a plain A4 with just a 2B. No graphite powder, no shading stamps, no charcoal, no brush. Shade by crosshatching the muscles. That purist attempt will show you your medium dexterity.
      Where you stand: what part is you and what part are materials.
      I get you are result oriented. The point is to get at that result without a material advantage. That would be something more special.

    Your work is absolutely amazing...It appears as though you did the entire block-in of portrait from sight, without any comparative measuring of proportions or use of rythm guides like Reilly or Loomis...was wondering how long it took you to get to a level where you can correctly measure by sight the proportions and features of a portrait at any angle. A friend of mine who is also a very fine portrait artist said he committed himself to drawing 3, 20 minute portraits a day 7 days a week (from life or photo reference)and it took him about a year before he could capture facial proportions without any measuring methods..Would love to hear your thoughts

    Such a finely detailed rendering. She seemed to become younger as the time flew by. I can see how her cheeks would be a challenge, but I am surprised by the nose. In the photo, Julia's nose seemed to be much more gracefully lined, but the beautiful rendition has given the nose a somewhat bulbous bottom, thicker and wider. I am sure that it is a case of the photo being too small for me to see, but it seemed to be a prominent difference. Or is that part of the baby fat issue?

    • @VitruvianStudio
      @VitruvianStudio  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks, Tom. You might be right about the nose. No drawing is flawless, and exaggerating the volume of the nose is a mistake I've made before... among many others.

    • @sadmkahn167
      @sadmkahn167 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      And I have also noticed that about her mouth. In the reference photo her upper lip comes in-line to the earlobe but in the artistic picture it's going down (falling down), giving a look of sadness and aged. Nevertheless, it's brill. Like you said no art is flawless. Do you not measure the features of the face?
