      @@policepatrol3230 Ok I see, and thanks for the comment. To clarify, the woman you can hear in the background had just asked me what was going on (after seeing all the emergency vehicles) and I told her that it was a procession for a killed police officer. She then called her husband to let him know about it (as he had seen it as well and was wondering what had happened). She also knew that I was recording and later took a video herself as well.

    My condolences to her family. Instead of this massive parade escorting a deceased mountie to the hospital (?) They should all be in training to prevent this from happening. Or they could be out sweeping the streets of the drug addicted, mentally ill zombies who are living on the streets and in the parks. The same show of respect should be given to every person who is murdered on the streets. This sad event was caused by the failure of your government.

    • @Silentwolf47
      @Silentwolf47 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      From what I can immediately recall from the stories I've read, she believed the suspect was overdosing and went to get a naloxone kit, before coming back to the suspect getting aggressive with the other park officer. I don't know the sequence of events from there though.
      The issue with our provincial government is that the Healthcare side of things is heavily suffering. Paramedic staffing shortages coupled with Hospital staffing shortages, a lack of proper rehabilitation programs and so on. It's a systematic failure on a grand scale.
      That being said, the answer to these issues isn't as simple as "Sweeping the streets of the drug addicted, mentally ill zombies who are living on the streets and in the parks".
      Because where do they go?
      The best thing for them is rehabilitation and therapy, much in the way the portugal model lines out. Unfortunately, our provincial government managed to bugger that one up too.

    • @Kishanth.J
      @Kishanth.J 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not only are many provinces facing a healthcare crisis, but an increase in homelessness. Not all of them are drug addicted, mentally ill zombies” some, especially young people and refuges that can’t afford or find homes. Not all homeless are drug addicts,

      @@Silentwolf47 I'm guessing that my country would also use incidents like this to argue that its thus hypocritical to oppose capital punishment for drug trafficking

    • @Silentwolf47
      @Silentwolf47 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lzh4950 (Sorry if this double sends in different wording, youtube is being weird)
      That's the tricky part of this whole discussion.
      Because while I don't personally endorse the use of capital punishment outside of a very specific set of circumstances (such as crimes against humanity; perpetrators of war crimes and genocide, etc) I can understand that; especially in the context of different cultural views, that people will have different solutions and ideas of what constitutes Justice in this respect. In Canada; we abolished the use of Capital Punishment in 1987; and the generational shift and view is much different today. As I mentioned though; different countries and cultures have different views on what Justice entails, some would find our system hypocritical, others wouldn't. Due to that difference; I can't see there ever being a one-size-fits-all solution.
      When it comes to drug trafficking; North America has a very different idea of what kind of Justice needs to be done; and even within NA, there's a constant discussion within. In this respect; which ever method is done; will result in some group disagreeing; there's no real consistancy.
      In the case of Constable Yang's Murder, Canada's criminal code states that
      (4) Irrespective of whether a murder is planned and deliberate on the part of any person, murder is first degree murder when the victim is
      (a) a police officer, police constable, constable, sheriff, deputy sheriff, sheriff’s officer or other person employed for the preservation and maintenance of the public peace, acting in the course of his duties;
      So we'll get some sort of Justice; but I can't deny that the issue is systematic - from the poor state of our healthcare and mental health care to the Justice and Enforcement Systems not effectively stopping those who traffick drugs. We desperately need concrete solutions.
