Jordan is a piano virtuoso genius. His skill was noticed young as he was accepted into one of the top music schools in the country (Juilliard) at the age of 9! He started as a classically trained pianist and made the transition into prog later down the road. Fun fact, he actually did a Band Aid commercial back in 1971 at the age of 14 where they show him playing Edvard Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor: th-cam.com/video/yZFVQBic1ek/w-d-xo.html.

That song actually sounded a bit like Dream Theater to my layman's ears, it suited him very well, and he put his own flavour to it. That was cool, I love Dream Theater! Speaking of prog and Dream Theater, have you heard Ayreon? It's a project by Arjen Anthony Lucassen, he writes proggy metal operas, inviting different artists and members of other bands. He has a song called The Day That the World Breaks Down, featuring 11 singers (if I remember correctly), and James LaBrie of Dream Theater is one of them, he is actually the first to appear in the song. The MV is a fun watch, where he introduces all the singers, and writes some trivia about the song, the story, and the instruments used.
Hey friend!!! You are so right on that...I think Animals as Leaders was likely very influenced by Dream Theater. We don't know that with certainty, but seems that way. Nope, we haven't heard of Ayreon (as far as I know?!). Appreciate the suugestion for "The Day The World Breaks Down"...sounds like a FUN video!!!
@@musikbyjh Yes, it felt very proggy. I think so too, though I have to admit, I don't know anything about Animals as Leaders, other than that it's a cool name for a band! Yes, it's a very entertaining video, it even has a little surprise thrown in at the end. If I understand it correctly, Arjen himself is a bit shy, and isn't on stage very often, I think he even said that he didn't think his music would ever be played live, but I am glad he was wrong. He seems to be into sci-fi, his "metal operas" seem to often have that theme. He has another project, called Star One.
@@Pascal-the-Rascal the cool and unique thing about Animals as Leaders is, its a 3 piece. Two 8-String Guitar players, and a drummer. Matter of fact, their main guitarist/songwriter, Tosin Abasi, made John Petrucci say "that's wild!" when showing him a few techniques. I highly reccomend checking Animals as Leaders out. Also, they're strictly instrumental.
The piano and choir patches almost make it sound like a Steve Vai song
