That Google search is the best shade I've ever seen thrown at the viewer. LOL I love how most of the tips were followed immediately by subtle examples. - "Could you give us an example of a J-cut that you might make in a car video?" - "I just did. Watch it again." Fantastic stuff. I don't have nearly the time, patience, or talent to get to this level of production quality, but at least this will give me some points to ponder next time I try. ^_^ Thanks.
@@ChrisHaye That was pretty subtle but I noticed it too - mainly because I was hoping to get an example, I suppose. Very nicely done and good job on keeping things concise and still have a load of information here. Good to keep viewers engaged while getting inspired enough to do their own research on the techniques you describe.. making me want to try and make a cut of our next endurance race. :-)
YESSSSS!!!! This is awesome Chris, thank you. You raised the bar for what sim racing videos could look like, so it’s great to hear tips from you. Cheers man!
You had already raised the bar for what sim racing videos could look like, but now there's no excuse! Now we all have to step up our game. Great video Chris and thanks for these tips!
You are the master, you have set the bar so high that if I could only have twenty-five percent of your creative ability I would consider myself fortunate. Keep up the great work buddy.
Chris Haye Lol! Thanks mate. For me it’s more about trying to find ways to improve quality without bloating the editing and shooting time, so always helpful to see how other people do it. My production quality isn’t even close to yours.
Great video and as a sim racer and an avid watcher of sim racing videos, you certainly have found a USP and looking at the comments, we all love your stuff.
Beautifully articulated. Between yourself and SimRacing 604, a knowledge gap has been covered that makes a time consuming process to learn, significantly shorter. Lots of consistent messages from you both, relative to developing and training your eye for scenes - and ultimately creating your own style of showing and sharing what we all love. Looking forward to seeing a great many more cinematic style videos, quite literally as a result of the sharing from yourself and Mike. Kudos to you both. 👏🏾
You're such an incredible editor. Explaining a J cut while inserting one into the video as an example was an awesome touch. Really learned a lot from this!
Your community spirit is wonderful Chris! Thank you for sharing these tips, I'm sure many will find them valuable. Your content will continue to be the bar and the inspiration though!
Very nice. Ive got a 5 year old that's jumped on my rig and "wants to make TH-cam videos". I've dabbled with creating content, but this really helps. Always love your stuff Chris
I for one would be interested in seeing a longer even a mini series on how you do your video's getting into a lot more detail as I think your edits are right up there with the best out there even outside of sim racing
This is an excellent video. I could go into a long description why. I have tried. But it’s pointless. You’ve told us for whom; you’ve told us why you’re making it; you’ve then given us concise examples, which I found fascinating. And then a little editing extra. Fair play mate. Good luck with your future.
I was drawn to your channel because of the effort you put into your cinematography, nice "peek behind the curtain," and yes, Google solves most "how to" questions lol
Lovely video! I also find that weather and time of day plays a major role in setting the mood of the video. In late afternoon on a summer day you get nice defining shadows and warm sun glare that can be used to great effect with little effort.
Hi Chris, thanks for this one. I’m one of those “man driving sim” you tubers that has also tried some artsy stuff, mainly with flight sims. It had never even donned on me to use the Xbox controller to control the cameras. You have inspired me. I may try making a vid this weekend.
I'm really a noob in racing games... Barely any time spent there... But you really earned my respect and subscription, when you said that you did this video 3 times... 3 times! Hoping to learn and see more lovely videos!:))
What a great video Chris! This is the only channel that I know of that has this level of attention to detail and care to every shot and transition, and you making this video giving a quick glimpse at all the techniques and the process you go through shows how cool you are. I know of a lot of people who would keep as many "secrets" as they can for themselves. Cheers man!
Hey Chris, I have a suggestion - but given your attempt to do this video twice already, I'm sure you can take it with a grain of salt. But when you explain why you made it shorter from around 0:59 onwards. Have you considered adding a BRAND NEW PLAYLIST?, then doing them all as very precise "chucks", that could? be expanded on a bit more, as solo video's. As I for one would love to hear how you do the rendering of your video's for example - while others who can play instruments, might specifically like to hear your audio tips, etc???
You are a guru mate. Amazing production quality always. I hope to some day reach your level. One thing that bugs me is that you 'only' have 31.5K when you should really have at least twice that. Keep up the amazing work!
Great video! This couldn't have been released at a better time, as it has always been a dream of mine to make cinematic simracing videos! Thank you Chris!!
This has been really helpful as this is what I have been trying to do with my channel as you say rather than just recording the replay. The jclip is something that I have never thought of doing so thanks for that tip
Honestly, I just had to give in and make this. I'm not 100% happy with the final result, but it's better to have it out in the world than sitting on my hard-drive!
Hey, Chris! As a follow-up to the comment by Blair Walton, I would love to see a bi-weekly series that covers a more in-depth look at how you go about this process from start to finish. I don't mean the software outside of the simulator (ie editing software, for example), but more-so the concepts that are applied and how you create that natural flow and emotion with each of your videos. Software outside of the simulator is a personal decision, since it all depends on what works best with each person's workflow. What I would like to see is a detailed analysis of one of your more popular videos as a reference point, such as: For shot X I wanted to do Y and I achieved this by doing Z with 1, 2, 3 tools and concepts. I understand that a fundamental understanding of video production is important and I am excited to get my teeth wet in the course I'm taking at my college program for social media work and showcasing some of the content that I have to work with for my job (mostly working within AC), so this "tutorial" (read: Chris Haye's Masterclass for Cinematic TH-cam content) will help immensely. Heck, if you had a patreon, I'd probably support my favourite sim-racing YTer too! Yours, An avid fan and eager supporter. PS; Loving the content! Best sim-racing YTer! Above Jimmer and GamerMuscle, but they take 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
Another tool that has to be mentioned on Assetto Corsa is Camtool2. Way more complex respect to the Joycam, but sure it allows to create more customized movements and shots, expecially when u want to track a single car
As always Chris, top-quality content. For myself, with a totally amateur knowledge level of video editing that starts and ends around captioning live footage I've shot of myself doing cooking demos (stop laughing at the back!) I know just enough to know how big a rabbit hole this would be for me: right now I love SimRacing, even though I'm just a novice, but if I start getting into making my own SimRacing videos, and especially SimRacing videos with any kind of cinematic feel to them, then I just know that's where /all/ my free time will end up. Result? I end up a so-so video maker and even worse racer ... so on this topic I'm going to do the chicken thing and leave it to the pros, and when it comes to SimRacing at the moment, that list is headed by you. So cheers for showing me the depth of the hole (fner fner) but I'm going to leave it to you. Thanks again for this and all your content, which is always excellent. Much love to you and Firstborn - hope you're managing to get some sleep! :) See you on-track.
Excellent. Can you follow this up with a “How to” on exporting/converting the footage from the game to your video editor. I am new to Assetto Corsa (original) and for the life of me can’t figure out how to get the replay to a editable/TH-cam’able format. Keep up the great vids!
Use OBS Sutio to record, record MP4s. There's a plethora of information about the video settings in OBS, so I'll leave that to the poeple who know better. Suffice to say you should record (and edit) at 60 FPS
@@carlosfandango2419 I would say it is. In many ways, as it allows you to tweak many things easily. Amongst others it's very easy to have multiple sound and image sources. And the best: It's open source, so you can check it out at no cost other than the time investment.

As someone that shoots video for a living I’m intrigued about the process, so thanks for the insight. The visuals you get out of these sims is truly remarkable. Keep it coming, I certainly appreciate your craft! Id always assumed that the camera moves you use relied on key framing within the sim. So I was surprised that you actually use a joystick to achieve them. Do any of the sins offer key framing for animated camera moves? Id have thought being able to set position a and position b with the software doing the interpolation would make your life a lot easier. You may already be doing this, but from a grading point of view do you have luts that you can load for a particular sim to get rid of the casts you mention? Again this would certainly speed up the workflow giving you a base grade that you can get creative with without having to correct each time you start working on a particular video. Thanks again for the content.
Hei Chris, as a Simracing video maker myself I've enjoyed your videos and always asked myself how the heck you were doing that. Turns out you're using magic... 😉 Do you know of any way to record the camera movements? By that I mean some type of motion control we could use with the sims. I've found myself in recording situations where I wished I'd had something like that but haven't found anything.
thank you for your work! great stuff! only one question) how to record video from assetto corsa replay? i mean, if i really want to 4k60fps? it is probably should not be a screen cast...
