  • As we commemorate the 20th anniversary of Xbox, we look back at how a passionate group of Microsoft renegades used their creativity and innovation to push traditional boundaries of gaming and establish Xbox as a dominant player in the industry. These industry trailblazers share their personal stories and experiences - reminiscing on the past and looking forward to what the future holds. The discussion is moderated by former Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aimé and features Xbox visionaries Robbie Bach, Ed Fries, Peter Moore, and Bonnie Ross.

Funny I remember 2001 having the Dreamcast magazine reading about Sega going 3rd party. I can remember hearing about Sega releasing my favorite all time franchise Sonic releasing on Nintendo. Seeing one of my favorite fighters(Virtua Fighter) since the Saturn going PlayStation. Then seeing the new kids on the block(Shenmue/Jet Set Radio) and 9 others going to XBOX. It felt natural to switch to Xbox and seeing SegaNet and then Xbox Live seemed like the next step. All these years later and hearing Peter Moore mention the Dreamcast just feels right. If you were a Sega fan back then, game anywhere, but how can you NOT be gaming on Xbox.

Having brand preferences is ok but the console warrior folks take it to a level that’s just creepy at this point. None of these companies care about them and they aren’t their friends either. All the console makers care about is the transaction/purchase of the consoles themselves and the software. They’re not family, friends, or brahs to the companies.

In the begginig I was an avid Nintendo fan, then when the PS1 came I jump there and was all about Sony's PlayStation, and now thanks to games like Gears, services like GamePass and superior Hardware like One X and Series X my main console to play multiplat games is Xbox. So thank you Microsoft because Sony and Nintendo, both, need good competition to give us better games and products and it is you who is raising the bar lately with GamePass and your hardware. Here is to 20 more years of gaming on Xbox! PS: I loved the fact that Reggie was there hosting this great chat.

This was really cool to listen to. One thing though, we're missing Phil Spencer! This is not taking away anything from this cause it was indeed a great listen.

Peter Moore…the man that defended the Dreamcast and its potential. Glad that Sega’s DNA transitioned into the Xbox. I hope Sega Japan can see that there’s still hope in that company. They have a lion caged with it’s legendary IPs. Sony Nintendo and Microsoft are trying to unlock that cage, and welcome the lion back. Sega Japan need to open there eyes.

Sega of Japan are the ones who royally fucked over Sega of America. They refused to let the Saturn release at a later date and forced Sega of America to launch it way too early. And they booted Sega of America's best guy, Tom Kalinske, because he was very furious over being bossed around by Japan rather than letting Sega of America do what it needed to do. That's why the Dreamcast ran out of time: Sega of Japan caused the company to bleed money. That whole situation was a stark contrast to Reggie at Nintendo of America. He was able to get Nintendo of Japan to back off a bit and let the Wii launch with Wii Sports which ultimately made the console very successful in North America.

Thoroughly enjoyed this. Having Reggie there made it all the better. If anyone else is looking for more nostalgia or other tidbits of the early days of Xbox I highly suggest listening to Halo 2 Artifacts podcast. Soooo good!

Can we take a small moment to notice how Peter Moore sounds like a young Stan Lee? His voice gives me feels.

Perhaps Stan was his inspiration. But I’d be more interested in knowing what his accent was like before moving to the US, because absolutely nobody else I know who grew up in Liverpool sounds like Peter Moore lol.
