    Wow! Your man-cave has a lot of kit. I thought I was doing well, but now I realise I'm a mere amateur compared to you, Mark.

    Thank you for pointing out potential drawbacks before we spend our money and are disappointed.
    A stove with a pinpoint flame pattern is generally preferable for people using smaller diameter vessels, such as titanium cups, popular among the ultralight, long distance, or fast, hiker. I use alcohol, which burns very slowly, so I use a wide titanium pot to capture that lower heat output more efficiently, and I use a very protective windscreen and reflective anti-scorch shield under the stove. If I used this setup with a canister stove, it would surely explode!
    If I bought one of these stoves, I would buy the one with the wider burner head, because I will occasionally cook bacon and eggs the first morning out of town (plus, I hate burning soups and stews, something that is easy to do with thin titanium pots).
    Thanks for your insight.

      I agree. The Hornet is so fast and best suited to boil and rehydrate meals. This stove is more general purpose. Thanks for commenting

    Great video. Details well explained. Thanks. They both look like good stoves for differing niches.
    I think perhaps the reason for the larger than expected height between the burner and pot rests in the hornet II is that it is designed for use with the Fire Maple Petrel heat exchange pot which has slots to accommodate the pot rests, and this brings the base of the pot closer to the burner.

    Nice well explained video, sir. I've seen a lot of tiny stoves out there, but this one is unique. I like the look and quality of it and actually like the ease of use of the pot stands, unfortunately they affect the flame a bit once they get hot, but still good none the less. Thanks for sharing and looking forward to watching more of your videos!

    For long term storage I really appreciate a hard case. Does that flame stay yellow even with a pot cooking on top?

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, but it does not add soot as it is not unburnt gases. Thanks for commenting

    This stove head and support arms is the same head as their remote stove, with very similar performance
    The wide head is excellent for slow simmering on wider pots
    Especially with my heat exchanger pot
    But!
    The head is too wide to use on a standard 95mm 750 pot for just boiling water
    There is too much flame spread and heat spillage to be efficient
    The Hornet burner is much focused in this situation and is the more suited stove

      I agree. Right stove for the right pot. I see this one as more general purpose. Thanks for commenting

    Do you think you could fit a mini bic lighter in the case under the stove? Just wondering if there actually is enough room to some extras.

    G'day Mark, the 116 seems to be more of an all rounder, where the Hornet makes more sense as a coffee/water boiling stove.
    Btw; I have very little experience with MREs, obviously one still needs the water to boil all round the packet, but do you think a pronounced central hot spot could then overcook the business in its central area ? i.e like a pan, but within the packet.
    I also wonder, what would be the effects of a wider diameter vortex type action on the Hornet.
    Cheers Duke.

    • @MarkYoungBushcraft
      @MarkYoungBushcraft  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Lots of room left for experimenting with both these stoves. Thanks for commenting Duke

    • @wanttogo1958
      @wanttogo1958 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      MREs are already cooked or at least all those I ate for years were. You just need to heat water and then place the MRE pouch in that water while stirring the contents to ensure it heats evenly. If you keep your heat source on at the point you place the pouch in the hot water I would make sure the flame is low and that you stir the contents frequently until it’s evenly warmed. Bon appetit!

    • @eyeofthetiger4184
      @eyeofthetiger4184 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@wanttogo1958Thanks for the reply mate, and fair call. I was just a bit concerned that since the Hornet is so intense centrally, it may be quite difficult, even with regular stirring, to avoid spoiling the end result.
      Thanks again for the benefit of your experience. Cheers Duke.
