Makes me wish we could all stay young, when I saw Slayer for the 1st time in 1985 for Hell Awaits, I knew it was different than anything before. It's like when you meet a girl, love at first sight.
I'm 53 now and remember hearing The Final command off Show no mercy when it was first released ! I believe it was back in '83 ? But anyways it blew me away and opened doors for a whole new music scene! No more Motley and Def Leppard.
This is great. This way back when Tom could still scream and yell, Kerry had hair, Dave looks like the drumming puppet from the muppets and Jeff, ah he looks the same. Great Video....Long live Slayer!
Reading Slayer 66 2/3 brought me here. Amazing. didn't know this show existed on video having an old cassette of it wear out years ago from tape trading days. 46 years old and still slaytanic...SLAYER!!!!!
Thanks for posting this. Like another guy said, I think I first heard Show No Mercy when I was around 15 years old when I lived in North Hollywood. Either KLOS or KMET played it one night and I recorded it and couldn't get over it. Still a huge fan after all these years. Thanks again for posting this.
I was in NH at that time too. Had the Demos and the SNM dropped and changed music forever. We were listening to all of the NWOBHM stuff till slayer and Metallica destroyed all of the British bands.,
I believe this show was 5/23/84 at Keystone, Berkeley,CA. Death Angel was the opener. This was Slayer's last show with make-up. Some of the boys from Exodus were at that show and had a talk with Slayer afterwards. Slayer played the next night at Ruthies with Exodus, without make-up.
don't remember that intro lasting so long. lmfao. .... thanks for posting. I can't believe this video exists. this is the first I've heard of it. I remember all the audio / cassettes floating around but not video. damn. I'm tripping on seeing this after all these years. ... how you remember something and how it actually happened....
Went to Jordan HS in North Longbeach back in '87 with Jeff's niece Veronica had her in my health class ! Ty for the autographed pics hope ur doing well !
Awesome. Classic show. Thank you very much for posting it. Much appreciated. Even in the early days of thrash, the fans were fucking nuts. This video is proof. There are times when the stage divers were knocking out some shit like Tom's mic stand or his bass. Fucking thrash metal wildness. SLAYER!!!!!!!!
It's a shame this era of metal wasn't officially documented on video more. Does anyone know if there is any pro-shot Slayer shows from before Reign? This show is AWESOME!
Every time I watch something like this I can't help but wonder how many of those in the crowd still have their metal albums in their possession and still enjoying them. And if they still remember their being there...
@ACEDIAMOND666 I started getting into metal in 1984, but I still like a lot of classic rock. Randy Rhoads was amazing. I first heard Slayer in 1989 with South of Heaven. I loved it and especially Dave Lombardo. Soon Seasons in the Abyss came out and I loved it and got all the Slayer albums. Now I listen to all kinds of metal, but still like classical, jazz, funk, even pop, Hendrix through Eddie Van Halen to System of a Down. There's room for all these out there.
It's hard for me to believe that i'm actually watching this! I was 15 at this time, living in the Sacramento area, listening to Show No Mercy and looking at the back cover, mesmerized.
the cassette tape got ate years ago 'cept I still got the cover which says may 84 ruthies inn berkeley. very similar set list. wonder if anyone video'd that show or the other bands on this show.... pre camcorder days were a bitch ass to shoot. the tape cover also has iron angel and sodom demo's from 84. Wish I still had all those tapes. ha. thanks for posting this video.
you know how it is when you get older, can't say anything without "I remember back when Slayer (or Metallica,or Exodus or whatever) first came out, I was knee high to a grass hopper, green as could be, scared to stage dive etc etc
I bought this from a guy on eBay who claimed to have been the one filming it. He wrote on the DVD it was San Francisco. I'll change it. Even Tom Araya made the mistake of saying San Francisco before Die by the Sword.
@ACEDIAMOND666 dude im 21 and i love this music if anything i wish i could have gone to this show it would be cool seeing kerry with hair instead of him being bald lol your not forgotten
I remember when I first heard Face The Slayer, staring at the S.N.M. cover when it first came out. freaking the fuck out when Tom says "Now I can freeze your burning eyes!" I'm like "How the fuck did he know I was mesmerized by the devil on the cover? Oh fuck now he's gonna"Trap me in a pentagram and seal my battered tomb" I'm going to hell for listening to SLAYER!. Damn I gotta quit smoking so much of this shit!
I wasn't aware he was a voice therapist. He was once a respiratory therapist. Used the money he made to finance slayers first album. He quit when they wouldn't give him time off to tour with slayer.
I miss the old days for the music but not much for anything else, no You Tube no been able to play Slayer for free through one click on the computer being able to see al these bands in their prime live for free. I would rather the present for the past no trips to Blockbusters and hope they had some half decent music videos or to the record store if you wanted to hear some music you had to pay for it.
hahaha...I love it how glam used to be more popular in those days, now it is dead and burried but this will NEVER die!!! :) fuckin thrash for life!!! \m/
You are exactly right it was filmed at Keystone Berkeley , Berkeley,CA ..............i remember the stupid ass POLE on the stage ,how stupid is that...............the lighting control panel consisted of an electrical box with like 7 light switches labeled yellow,green,blue,white...............all made portable with a few feet of electrical cord .to make it easy to take to a chair and have seat ..............wow good times
you have to FCKIN LOVE SLAYER..... NEW LEVEL OF MUSIC...... listen LOUD 39:50 (love that fkin riff... arghhhh SLAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Everyone remembers their first time hearing thrash lol. Mine was in a skate shop
This is great. This way back when Tom could still scream and yell, Kerry had hair, Dave looks like the drumming puppet from the muppets and Jeff, ah he looks the same. Great Video....Long live Slayer!
Slayer is the best band in the world, Jeff will be sorely missed.

I love that Araya can't sing and play bass at the same time. They have come such a long way. FUCKING SLAYER!!!!!!!!
Even Tom Araya said San Francisco by accident before Die By the Sword
I bought this from a guy on eBay who claimed to have been the one filming it. He wrote on the DVD it was San Francisco. I'll change it. Even Tom Araya made the mistake of saying San Francisco before Die by the Sword.

Slayer when they were highly satanic and believed in it and its power.
They never believed in satan...they sang about it most of their songs were about it, but they are a band who believes in god
travis treadway
Tom and Dave are the only god's believers.
You mean before people were too jaded to enjoy a band that presented itself like Slayer did pre 1985
@@travistreadway3180 In my opinion, they probably used the satanic/occult imagery for "shock and sensationalistic" purposes.
they were never satanic...not slightly OR highly....it was imagery and nothing more.
