ya know it's the c#m that makes the progression/arrange,nt..i've seen ABB, woody guthrie and others do this and only Jerry throws that "lift" in there..otherwise , it's just a 1-4-5 and it falls "flat"...Jerry loves the c#m for a lift..like in peggy o and suagree etc..ya know what I am saying weeping wilow?
Thank you so much for this! There are a lot of tab and lessons out there on this and yours is far and away the most accurate. Excellent tutorial as well! Thank you!!
Absolutely love this riff been working on it for a bit now. I actually am working on some cool ideas to continue the initial pattern all the way to the B. I can post it once I write it out if someone's interested.
I love that you chose this one because my version is sooo wrong. Some of my versions bear some resemblance to the way the band plays a song but this one was one of the first songs I ever tried to play and so.... great....
I feel like there's at least three distinct eras of this tune: 1) early 70s, 2) late 70s, and late 80s - early 90s, each having a different style lead. 5/7/72 is no doubt great, but very different than say late 80s solos. So, it'd be hard for me to say just one solo is the best. Nonetheless, point taken! 👍

I’ve been playing the easy version I guess. The way you do it sounds more like that 80’s bounce Dead which means you gotta be a groove machine!

Kinda sounds like the groove of Loose Lucy when played at the slower tempo.
Best grateful dead lesson channel on TH-cam! You think you can do dire wolf?
Do you mean a rhythm lesson for "Dire Wolf"? I have done a solo for that one: th-cam.com/video/gByJIpCPIt8/w-d-xo.html

Another great lesson. I love the lick but its hard work on the left arm, by the time I really get it down I'll have a forearm like Popeye!
