My old 83 Datsun truck did this when starting up first thing in the morning. I never had to replace the starter. The sway bar links were the first thing to go.

Even then dodge uses gear reduction starters. They use far less power. And they put out alot more torque. However they cost more. My dad would take a dead battery from his chevy. Pop it in his truck and it would start.

Louder, sure. Badder? Nah. Fix the suspension, fix the exhaust, ditch the dumb donk dish wheels, fix the glow plugs so it starts properly, and replace the automatic with a manual trans and THEN it would be bad ass.

THEN he can think about maybe brodozering it out even further, or making a pre-runner that'll never encounter anything rougher than a railroad crosing, whatever. If it runs like shit it's gonna be shit no matter what facade it gets. Make it run right THEN make it custom.
