Hi Atif... great bit of info you posted here! I have 530D 2004. I went to my BMW guy who I trust for many years. He said its fine to disconnect IBS (i had high battery drain message too) but he said bare in mind that the ibs is there to tell the alternator to regulate the charge to the battery. During high current items being activated for example, fan on full, lights, sound system full etc.... the ibs tells the alternator to pump up the the charge to the battery and when things are normal again the ibs tells the alternator to give a normal current... its doing this all the time to try and keep a constant charge to the battery. That's why some people will experience no problems and others will find a flat battery. That's why like you I've been lucky so far too. but one day you and I may find a flat battery. Anyway another tip from my bmw guy is this: if you turn your fan speed knob up to level 2, wait a few seconds then crank it up to level 3. If there's a problem with the ibs you will notice the fan speed won't go past level 2. That's because your computer knows there's a problem and cleverly restricts the speed of the fan to preserve your battery. When you disconnect the ibs cable you can crank it up to 3 and will go full speed. hope this helps... all the best Atif and your subscribers. :)
Hi Andy, sorry for the late reply. Its a classic case of over-engineering gone mad. Olden day cars didn't have issues like fans not switching off and newer cars won't either. I've had this wire disconnected for 2.5years now and i've had no electrical problems (thank god). Don't worry, just disconnect it and start driving, you'll never think about it again.
Hi, disconnecting the IBS will affect long term battery life as the alternator charge voltage will default and not vary with different temperature conditions (particularly in winter when the battery is cold). IBS also accurately measures battery temp off the negative post. First E60 I had had taken me a long time to work out the faulty IBS was not letting the vehicle go to sleep after the normal 15 mins delay (even with factory BMW DIS scanner). New IBS cost $1000+ trade in over here in AU.
Whoever you are i just want to say big thanks on behalf of my family n kids... We were stucked in the middle of night with the same problem... After ur this video just disconnected that wire and bang on... Just reached home.. thanks again dear... Thanks alot...
I have been dealing with zero battery for 6 months now carried a battery charger in the boot, just walked down stairs 15 mins ago unplugged that cable and was able to enjoy my air con and heated seat for the first time and the car started by itself when I stop. Thankyou so much mate has helped me a lot.
That was a very nice video, especially if you're a technician. The point is, these are very expensive, very technical and complex vehicles, and it is inexplicable to me why so many people have fallen under the spell of BMW and purchase these vehicles. At this price level, you shouldn't be having these problems - what on earth are you paying for??? I had the high battery drain issue on my 2007 530i. The orange parking light went out every time, yet i still had the issue; I charged the battery to no effect; this was after spending countless thousands on trying to fix an excessive oil consumption problem (one qt every 1200 miles) - unheard of in any vehicle!). After 8 years of this, my solution was simple: I drove the vehicle into a Toyota dealer, and left with a brand new 2017 Camry. Good luck guys. I'm a recovering BMW owner, and will not look back again.
Gardis72 I hear you and I have to agree. If you're paying this much for a car it should at least be reliable. I'm thinking about doing the same thing. I'm going back to Lexus. I drove my '96 es300 over 300k miles and that car never gave me any real or major issues. Thanks for posting this video though Atif.
Atif I found your video when I was at breaking point of taking the car to the garage. Thanks for putting this on here, it's people like you that make TH-cam work. KEEP IT UP!
That goes for me too. Helped me resolve my issue with my 2004 530I it would turn over but wouldn't start. What year and model is the recall good for? Is it all models with this issue?
Mate you are a hero just purchased a 525i and only had it 3 days and it's been doing this exact thing. Disconnected ibs and jumped it as you said and the car fired up first time. Thankyou
Had same issue another thing to notice if you have an automatic like myself the light beside the park on the shifter stays on all the time which means it's not going into sleep mode. It should normally go off after 16mins! Disconnected the ibs earlier today and park light went off so fingers crossed! Thanks for the video man
Hi, Thanks for the great video!!. Yesterday my car wouldn´t start, interior lights and the stereo worked fine. I made a call to BMW-workshop and they said that the only thing to do was to get the car to an othorised BMW workshop. I was just about to take my 530 xi E61 in to the workshop. But after watching your video I went out to the car and unplugged the cable. Wroooom it started!!!! Thanks again, lots of money saved..
I'm in the US, so my steering is opposite yours, watching your video was a trip! :-) I have a 650 Convertible. Two days ago, out of nowhere, my car wouldn't start. I was stranded 35 miles from home at night. Emptied my trunk and got a guy to give me a jump with his cables. Drove home, turned car off, figured I'd take to auto parts store next morning for them to check my battery power. Decided when I turned the car off to give it a try, see if it would start, it did, no problem. I figured, must have been a fluke. Next morning (yesterday), went to car to see if it would start, and it did. I'm in outside sales and had appointments and needed to be able to go to them to pay my bills. I figured, no need to go to auto parts store. Fast forward a few hours, I'm ready to leave home, and car won't start. No cables at my house, and no neighbors home that could help. Had to cancel my appointments. Finally got a jump and drove straight to auto parts store. They tested battery and said it was bad, so I replaced it. Car started right up. I drove it about 10 minutes, turned it off, and went inside. Was there about 45 minutes. Came out, started car, got Increased Battery Discharge message on my display. Clock needed to be reset again. I didn't set it, just drove home. Need to figure out problem now. Are you suggesting that I get a trickle charger and put it under my hood and attach it somewhere, and at the same time, get a jump in the rear where the battery is? Not sure I understand what the 'plug' is that you are showing us in your trunk, or if I am suppose to connect it? Or disconnect it? I've read other forums that indicate that something isn't shutting off on the car. I have nothing running that I can see when I part it and turn it off, not even a cell phone charger plugged in. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you soooo much. By disconnecting that cable, I was able to get the car to start. I still need to take it into the dealer to see if they can find out what is causing the increased battery drain but now I can drive it to them instead of having them tow it thanks to you!!!
Thank you so much for uploading this video, you saved me from leaving my car overnight in Tesco car park! Lol need more people like you on TH-cam. Quick and simple video. TOP MAN!
@@israelfreenation3469 Ye its a cable connected to the car battery, when you disconnect it the car should start up. If it doesn’t then it’s another issue. Also check you haven’t got anything draining your battery, turned out the cigarette lighter was draining mine. Disconnected and don’t have anymore issues with battery drain. Don’t leave the cable disconnected for long however, as this will cause long term issues. There is a reason it needs to be connected so it reads car electronics.
i think this was my problem as well. Thanks alot for taking the time to post this video. disconnected IBS and so far so good. real easy and quick thing to do so recommend doing this first. almost want to test the dealer and see what BS they tell me about the problem (well, you need new battery, new thingamagimme, etc, etc) and it will be $1400. This IBS cable is about $200 and 3 minutes to replace
Thanks a lot Atif, solved 2 problems at the same time. Apart from the high battery drain, My e60 problem with headlight keep on and off, blinking even without switching the light on has also disapear.
+Chris Ng Hi there. I am suffering from the same issue in the 2006 525i. I have spoken to a consultant in one of the dealerships in Poland and he explained that the issue with the error messages and trip odometer and clock is not caused directly by the low battery voltage itself. He said that when the car detects that the voltage drops below 12.5v, it assumes that some module software has frozen, making it unable to switch itself off, which causes the drain. To resolve it the main computer proceeds to reset all the modules, and hence some of the settings (like clock) disappear. He said that in his opinion this is a cock-up on BMW's behalf because for one this 12.5v threshold is set unnecesarily high, and often the reset occurs even when all the modules are fine. Also the problem could be avoided if the memory holding the clock and odometer settings would be supported with a small battery (like the one inside your PC computer) Anyway, after them not being able to diagnose the source of the drain, and having replaced and coded a new battery, the problem remained. I have now disconnected the IBS, and we'll see how it goes. Also 2 tips: 1.If you have a keyless entry option, make sure that you don't keep a key too close to the car. This will prevent it from "sleeping" causing drain. 2. (Doesn't work with manual tranny) To see whether the car goes into "sleep mode" lock it and observe from the outside whether the gear indicator light next to the gear leaver switches off. (Should take less than 30min)
Hi Everyone, thanks for the appreciative comments. Just an update. I've had my IBS wire disconnected for 18 months now and its running fine. With no errors. I don't even think about it anymore. Hope this video helps the rest of you. Please share!
Hi Atif, If it's just the ibs, does ur i-drive unit have to throw in a code ? cos I pretty much have the same issue with my 2007 335i e90 giving me a hard time at the start, I'm sure it's neither the starter nor the alternator, it's actually definitely something related to power and battery, so from what i understand from your vid is that all I have to do is disconnect the ibs wire and see if it's still gonna be hard to start the car, and if it persists then the battery definitely needs replacing, is that right ?
Hi this video has been very helpful...I tried this on my E64 and it seems to work well its been 1 week and warning of High Rate of Battery Discharge. But i can help it to wonder whether we are really solving the problem or just cutting off the reporting system? If this fix only stops the sensor from reporting the problem to car computer then it means that the battery could still getting drained only that now I will not know about it because the car computer isnt getting feedback from the battery...?
Atif Khan ..hi didn't drive my car for about a month...dead battery ...I tried what you did e60 2004..took that cable is out ...There were two but I only took off one...any way dual charged it..tried to start but nothing.got interior lights but no Idrive? ??....was I spouse to take both is connections off ... or is it tuc...or The remote alarm ?? or ??
Bro you are the man I was having the same issues after changing my battery and alternator I disconnect the ibs yesterday afternoon turn on my car this morning and bum no more drain thanks a lot you save me a lot of money
Hey this is great info!... I just disconnected IBS and solved another problem. My heater fan wasn't going past the 2 setting, radio was switching itself off, and battery drainage warning was going on. Now all this has gone!! thanks buddy :)
Great of you to post a video helping others out but disconnecting the IBS sensor to stop errors this is like removing your letterbox to stop receiving gas bills!! It doesn't mean what's creating the bills will go away! Of course disconnecting the IBS will stop errors coming up, the IBS is telling the car that there is a battery drain, it's not causing the battery drain. If you're getting errors you need to systematically check the fuse circuits to find out what is causing the drain.
just me Yes, occasionally it will fail like any part but you can't just assume the IBS is at fault. You need to scan the car to find out what is causing it. If your check engine light comes on you don't assume there's a fault with the light and just disconnect the bulb do you?
You dont understend how it actualy work.. when ibs is foulty thay turn the ecu and everything on when car should be in sleep mode.. Somethimes ibs is the main reason for drain battery..and car wont go to sleep mode....very offten.. And wit svan the car you cant see ibs foult.. And those ibs are.very sensitive to moisture and hard operate..
just me I don't think you inderstand its function. If you're getting a battery drain message the IBS is the thing that detects the fault. If you disable the IBS like in this video, then any fault with any electronic component or relay will simply go on draining the battery. You may also have several items causing the drain including the IBS itself. Pulling the IBS is like replacing the car ECU if you have a misfire - yes sometimes a misfire is caused by the ECU but 99% of the time it's not. There are several common causes of battery drain in the E60 and a faulty IBS is a rare one. THE most common is a faulty component in the Comfort Access system. OR a micro relay in a control module.
Cassette Walkman but if you unplug the ibs and after that, i say 1 week the battery is good and car starts ok...than you know that ibs is foulty and is couse od battery drain...and thats only why you would disconect it..if the battery is draind after one night without ibs..than you connect it again and looking something else thats foulty..
Muchas gracias funcionó en mi BMW 530i e60 se agota a la batería en 2 días e desconectado cable ibs y arranca perfectamente lo único es el fallo se queda encendido de airbag del conductor un saludo y gracias me a servido de mucha ayuda.
Thank you so much. This was exactly my problem also. Water got in by brake lights and damaged ibs I guess. Voltage dropping on meter as I looked at it. Pool under battery. Disconnected the ibs and 14 v ish again immediately on meter. 12. 5 v ish when car off which is bang on.
I had the same problem last October 2015 Called AA and RAC breakdown services they came check ,jump started the car from front and direct to the battery nothing happened. I had to abandon my car 360 miles in a Hotel basement for a week while trying to figure out the cause. And then a week after l returned hoping to get some sort of magic. Phoned RAC again because l was thinking if the car doesn't start l will have to have it carried all the way up north. The Guy comes he diagnosed the car for clues cleared all silly Codes nothing happened, And then after approximately 45minutes we check fuses one by one all were perfectly working, then we started our concentration on the battery and all cables and connection surrounding it. We then decided to disconnect the IBS cable "Bang the car dash comes alive, l Started the car, "Damn everything works like dah" So folks this thing really works disconnect the stupid thing problem solved. Cars works fine with the thing disconnected. 2006-10 BMW e60
Okay, it seems like your video has helped to resolve the problem (high battery drain) of most of your viewers. I've had my battery replaced yesterday morning, and it still drains the battery, due to this high discharge problem, I keep getting some errors/faults on my iDrive, such as "Suspension fault" or "Windows anti trap lock" or something like that. Even gives me "Transmission Fault" message, which is annoying. But, I've just gone out and disconnected the IBS cable at 2am, and will see how it goes in the morning. If the problem will be resolved, I'll buy you a drink mate. However, I will keep you updated, even if the problem will be still there. Fingers crossed it will be alright! :P Thanks for the tip Atif!
man thank you I just changed the battery and I thought it was going to solve the issue. but no.. my new battery was dead . after disconnect the IBS shit .. the car started with no issue. saved me time and money . now I love my bmw
Hello, i disconnected te IBS cable. now i have the date that remains but i still need to set the date. do i really need to wire a cable between the + and the - ? it it is recommanded to wire + and - ? how attach the wire ? thank you from France
Hi Michelle connely, for some reason i'm not able to directly reply to your comment. However, you seem to have a completely different car. This is a very specific fix for a BMW 5 series (e60). You should probably go get the car checked out by a qualified mechanic. Different cars have different electrical wiring so the plugs I've disconnected won't apply to you.
I’m pretty sure it’s not a scare mongering moment. My friend fried his computer trying to jump it from the battery. It’s still possible to do jump it from the battery, but it must be done at lower voltage. Like jumper cables and let it run for some time to charge it
As I posted earlier, this worked for me so I could take my car to the dealer. I was still having issues with the date and time resetting. I had to have the dealer replace my IBS. Just thought I'd let others know, even though this trick got my care started, I still had to take it in to get a new IBS to completely resolve my issues.
THANK YOU I WAS ABOUT TO REPLACE THE BLOWER REGULATOR AS I WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD BE THE PROBLEM, IM GOING TO TRY THIS TOMORROW MORNING AND HOPEFULLY ALL GOES WELL. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT YOU MIGHT HAVE JUST SAVED ME AN EYE. HAHAH
If you break the T-shaped bolt that allows the cable to clamp to the battery you cannot get one from BMW, they dont sell them separately from the cable... but you can go to a auto parts store that sells Standard Motor Product branded parts and ask for a BP59C, or the BWD branded part BH59B, or go to a NAPA and ask for a 718628. Dont overtighten, the torque needed is 5NM or 3.6 Ft Lbs.
That is just a temporary fix to start the engine. Diconnecting the IBS will have Long Term issues. You will always have a Statement in the Diesel Electric Error Memory and it might be that your DPF is not regenerating
hello I have a problem with ibs sensor I get several errors , such as conducion dynamic disturbed you change the alternator and battery and yet I get failures and when I turn the vehicle are removed can do to disconnect the ibs to let me out failures 'm from Spain and I write from a translator thanks
@@8ifkhan I appreciate it brother I was stuck all morning trying to figure why my engine kept making a buzzing noise in the from engine and I removed the IBS cable it completely killed the battery for me but had a jump start and now I'm getting regular starts mo errors nothing of the sort I figured it's a manufacture error made during these cars but it's simple fix I appreciate it man thought it was gonna cost me 1000$ but this simple fixed did it
In my 2008 550i the battery seems to just drain. I've taken it to the local Autozone and they charged it and said it was a good battery. So I see your video and unhook the IBS after putting the fully charged battery back on. Couple days pass and battery is dead again. Do I need a new battery? I just got the car and not even getting to enjoy it
I had the same problem, replaced the module under the spare tire, and then had to replace the module in the dashboard under the CD player which controls the iDrive
Hi Atif , Quick question Mate.. I replaced my battery in my 2004 530i , I don't have a drain battery message or anything like that , but my question for you is in regards of registering the battery. From what people have told me , after you replace the battery you need to register it with the computer system , so the alternator does not over charge the battery. When I installed the new battery this week , all my settings were still there , nothing has changed,. Do you think I should still have the system registered for a new battery , even though everything is acting normal with no issues? thanks
+DaItalianstalian Hey , I actually went to a shop and had them register the battery. It was a local euro shop and they did it for free. It's just a scanner.. Find a local shop and offer them like 20 bucks or something. They may even do it for free. Good luck.
Maybe you answered this question before but there is too many comments to got through. I took my 2007 BMW 525i to get the Matt Sensor replaced bc there was recall. I thought that would have my "Seatbelt & Airbag" light disapear but it didnt. Sales rep cant tell me how to fix it until i pay them the diagnostic fee but he did say it has to do something with the battery cable. Can you please tell me if I replace the battery cable will it make my lights disapear if so what cable do i need to buy? Thank you so much
Hi Atif got same car as you, it's just started with battery drain, you can also here cd changer working and sat nav so I am going to try this tomorrow.
I have the same problem on my e60. Took it in to the Dealers. Charge me £90 for initial check and they couldn't find anything. Now they want another £183.00 an hour to do further checks. Kept telling me it may be a bad battery or comfort access issue. I will collect the car today and disconnect IBS and see how it goes.
Hello, I am writing to you from Italy. Why did you change the cable, what problems was the car giving you? Did the problem still occur after the replacement? my problem is that 1 or 2 times a year the machine does not want to turn on anymore. then I do the bridge with another battery and I have no more problems. my battery is new. My bmw 525 i 2004
I am starting to get the same error message. The problem is that yesterday I was stuck for a couple of hours in the mall parking 'cause my e61 didn't start. So when I inserted the knob key I can hear the click, the ccc starts, music etc, some lights in the dashboard, but when I try to press the "start/stop" button, NOTHING, NOT EVEN IGNITION. I was still able to access the "hidden menu" at 9 (where battery voltage is shown) was 11.7 volt. So what I did, I called a friend and I stared it with cables at the second attempt. In my case I think that is the battery the problem.
Emanuel Lucescu if your battery is older than 4-5 years then you should definitely have it checked, it doesn’t cost much to replace it on your own, just make sure you get the correct battery for replacement. Also if you’re going to bring it to a mechanic make sure you bring it to someone who has a good reputation with fixing BMW’s, I can’t stress this enough, someone can be a good and honest mechanic but that doesn’t mean that they’re knowledgeable about BMW’s.
Hello Atif, Thanks for finding the solution for battery drain. Could you please make a small video in which you show how to actually disconnect the IBS from negative terminal? I have searched all the forums and not able to find it. The IBS cable of my car is directly connected to the negative terminal main. I will appreciate your kind help. Cheers!
I have a 2008 535XI. Does anyone know how to disconnect the IBS cable? It is connected to the negative terminal. I am having the same issue.. my car won't start now even when the battery is 100% charged.
Maybe you could demonstrate how to fix a faulty trunk - which doesn't lock properly... And automaticaly opens when you unlock the car... I sopose the root cause are some faulty wires...
I was freaking out when my dads 5 series kept killing the battery. Initially I blamed the short journeys in the winter months (lights, heating, heated seats etc on) but when it happened during the last month it drove me mad! But your fix is the only one that worked :) been working flawlessly since!
Hi, I have had the same problem with my 2005 E60 M5, after being parked overnight, it takes about 5 minutes to start, had the battery replaced, it was fine for about a week, then it stopped starting again, disconnected the IBS this afternoon, will monitor it for the next week.
DO NOT connect a wire between the + and - terminal! you will blow the battery up in your face or the explosive terminal device will explode! I realized when i watched the video some would be confused-- what he is talking about is he connected a set of jumper cables to the terminals to boost the car from another car, to get it dtarted!
I have a 05 525i and it has that battery problem, but it has a GPS because it's my first car from a dealer. took it in to the mechanic they changed the battery and ibs cable still have the issue of it not turning on the next day is it possible the GPS is messing with it.
My oem bat dead and i replaced it with an after market same specs battery. The shop did register the battery and everything. Everything was fine untill i left it over night and try to start in the cold monring. I mean the car would start fine but it pops up " intensive battery discharge " and tells me to set the time. So i try to took the IBS sensor off and i got no more error message. But i measure the battery after a 1 hour drive from 12.6 something drops down to 12.25 over night. Is this normal at all ?
+Chris Ng hey man, glad you're not getting the error message anymore. i'm not sure about the voltage drop. It doesn't seem like a big drop, so i wouldn't be worried about it. Keep an eye on it and see if it causes you any further issues with electrical power and charge. If not, just ignore it.
hi there atif I have a 04 plate 530d manual my battery was Completely dead I have changed that but it's still not starting just makes the battery dead noise click click the lights and the I drive sometimes works or chooses not to now . another point usually when I start I know the glow plugs are getting g worn out but that wouldn't do what this is doing I need help it's driving me insane
if you get a lot of error messages, try disconnecting this wire as I have shown in the video, it might get rid of the problem for you. if it doesn't then you know that you have a different problem.
Thanks for the help man..im gonna try it to my e60 520d 2008..i always got the mssg aswell..then the garage told me that the battery is fine..but just one question..is it just to disconnect the ibs? Or i need to do something else?cuz you said it in the video about the positive and negative thats why im a bit confused..are you just in uk or somewhere else?thanks again..
hey bud sorry its taken 2 weeks to reply. I hope you got it sorted. In the video i mentioned that you need to disconnect the IBS (as i've shown) and also jump the car directly to the battery if its gone flat (like mine had). Good luck fella.
Hi Mate, I don't know if it is or not, it might be something else, but it might be worth trying to disconnect this wire and seeing if it makes a difference.
In my BMW DIS application error 4477 DDE - intelligent battery sensor, no communication via the BSD interface Intelligent battery sensor (IBS) B1637_IBS and from what I can see the car running once a week is an issue as to the lack of electricity. Does the error indicates damage to the sensor? (google translate sorry)
Hi thanx for the vid, one question I have is that I do not get the error message, but I get a flat sometimes adn have to get RAC out to jump start with a big booster pack, however they say my battery is healthy and drive for an hour or so to re-charge, i've done that but it happens every so often, scared to turn engine off now when playing music, or just leaving any instrument on in the car. Do you think it's the same thing?
hi i have japanese e60 530 m54.... first of all active steering shined i think that it was battery i changed battery.... firstly it runed very good and fast... after 15 mile the car changed it runed very slow, stopped car turn off and started again da active steering shined again... then i changed alternator but same problem then i changed ibs... problem stayed i checked car, everything is ok.when car runs voltaje drain to 11v and when active steering is shining thermostat turns off
Atif, so you discounnected your IBS cabel and your car is still running fine? I have a 2004 BMW 530i automatic. I keep having an issue with battery. It keeps draining and I have jumped it multiple times over the past 2 months. It will keep a charge for a week or so but now it will not hold a a charge. I keep getting a clicking sound from the radio and I believe it is draining the battery. I have also checked and replaced the fuse. I have also taken the battery and gotten a full charge at an auto parts store. any ideas?
if the ibs sensor is disconnected could it happen that the leaving home won't work? I disconnected the ibs sensor, but my leaving home wont work after 1 day of no use
Hi Atif... great bit of info you posted here!
Andy Bocchetti do you do the fan test with the engine off?
Mines a 2009 328i fan speed is digital now 😆 so from 2 to 3 is nothing but I will try from 2 to max.
Ah thanks for your comment. This is exactly why I uploaded this video, to help people. Glad you made it home.
I have been dealing with zero battery for 6 months now carried a battery charger in the boot, just walked down stairs 15 mins ago unplugged that cable and was able to enjoy my air con and heated seat for the first time and the car started by itself when I stop. Thankyou so much mate has helped me a lot.
Carl Dunlop Is it still working well?
What a sore loser. True loser
But you still watch videos about BMW, so we know you must still dream about us in your sleep. We have you.
Thanks for the video man
hey sean, no worries. glad it worked for you. hope you haven't had any other problems since then.
Disconnecting the IBS fixed my starting, my AC fan speed problem too!!! This video is awesome!!!
I have a 650 Convertible.
I'm getting that same problem as well I have a 09 650i coupe I haven't tried replacing the battery yet what did you end up doing to fix your problem?
Perfect!! Prior to this, my iDrive would reboot repeatedly, no longer an issues! Hope it stays that way. Cheers for that brother!
I had the same issue on my 530i and thanks to you I haven't had the issue for about 18 months now, I just never commented about it
I appreciate the comment mate, glad my video helped you. My wire is still disconnected and its been over 2 years :-) no problems m/a.
Yes, thank you. My 530i is starting up and running fine now, thanks to your video. Awesome helpful video.
I hope this is my issue . just replaced battery and now just dies sometimes.
@@gregvernon7672 did you figure out
Thanks Atif, Brilliant! That has to have been the easiest fix I have ever done.
Worked perfectly on an E90 330i with the drain issue.
Glad it got resolved for you mate. Had mine disconnected 18 months now. Still fine.
TOP MAN!
What happened? U removed the cable and it started right up?
@@israelfreenation3469 Ye its a cable connected to the car battery, when you disconnect it the car should start up. If it doesn’t then it’s another issue. Also check you haven’t got anything draining your battery, turned out the cigarette lighter was draining mine. Disconnected and don’t have anymore issues with battery drain. Don’t leave the cable disconnected for long however, as this will cause long term issues. There is a reason it needs to be connected so it reads car electronics.
5 años luchando con baterías alternadores y un motor de arranque😢
Muchas gracias tío por este descubrimiento
i think this was my problem as well.
Also 2 tips:
1.If you have a keyless entry option, make sure that you don't keep a key too close to the car. This will prevent it from "sleeping" causing drain.
2. (Doesn't work with manual tranny) To see whether the car goes into "sleep mode" lock it and observe from the outside whether the gear indicator light next to the gear leaver switches off. (Should take less than 30min)
Did disconnecting the IBS work for you? Or did you fix it some other way?
Co dalej? Co zrobiles i jakie buyly tego skutki przyjacielu?
ANA ALVARADO hi. the problem never came back and the car works perfectly ever since i disconnected the IBS. i wished i did it straight away.

Atif Khan ..hi didn't drive my car for about a month...dead battery ...I tried what you did e60 2004..took that cable is out ...There were two but I only took off one...any way dual charged it..tried to start but nothing.got interior lights but no

Hello I disconnected the ibs and no more battery drainage but have this error code p1515 but I think that occurs because I disconnected the ibs
How is it going so far?
Dude! You fixed my car!! 😄
Was looking at replacing either my battery or alternator... Disconnected my IBS cable and now my car is fine!! Thanks man 👍

How long did that last?
I have a BMW 650i and my car did the same thing but once I unplugged the IBS sensor the problem was fixed Thanks for video!!!
Bro you are the man I was having the same issues after changing my battery and alternator I disconnect the ibs yesterday afternoon turn on my car this morning and bum no more drain thanks a lot you save me a lot of money
I'm glad the video helped with your issues :-) please share.
Hey this is great info!... I just disconnected IBS and solved another problem. My heater fan wasn't going past the 2 setting, radio was switching itself off, and battery drainage warning was going on. Now all this has gone!! thanks buddy :)
You're welcome bud. Had my wire disconnected over a year now still fine.
Atif Khan Great video!!! Is it still working well?
Great of you to post a video helping others out but disconnecting the IBS sensor to stop errors this is like removing your letterbox to stop receiving gas bills!! It doesn't mean what's creating the bills will go away! Of course disconnecting the IBS will stop errors coming up, the IBS is telling the car that there is a battery drain, it's not causing the battery drain. If you're getting errors you need to systematically check the fuse circuits to find out what is causing the drain.
Cassette Walkman ibs acctualy drins battery when is foult
just me Yes, occasionally it will fail like any part but you can't just assume the IBS is at fault.
Glad I could help!
Excellent, thanks for posting, cured my wife's E61!
Really glad it helped you out mate.
Thank you, but there's an important question, how will I know that ibs sensor works or not
I had the same problem last October 2015 Called AA and RAC breakdown services they came check ,jump started the car from front and direct to the battery nothing happened.
Dude - you are the man! I disconnected the cable and jumped it. No problems since!
+James Hegarty No worries mate, glad its sorted. If you want to pay me back, wish me luck, i've got an important job interview tomorrow!
+Atif Khan hi mate u in the uk where u based n ur car looks sick bro
you got the job finally?
So can I jump it from the front with another car then jump it from the back with another car too?
Thanks mate! Disconnecting the IBS stopped the battery from draining overnight, I've left it disconnected for 2 days & everything's back to normal
No worries. Glad I could help please share the video if you have other 5 series friends.
Thanks for the tip Atif!
Hope it works out for you mate, although you've got a lot more error messages than I had. All the best.
Atif Khan Battery run out, still. I don't know how. Something was draining it every day :(
Rascal van Russ Hi mate did you manage to find the problem? I am getting the same issue with my bmw m3 f80. Thank you
Rascal van Russ This instruction is simply to stop the msg popping up. As you've discovered it will NOT stop whatever was causing the issue.
Thanks I have a 2006 and had the same problem and this seems to have fixed it
man thank you I just changed the battery and I thought it was going to solve the issue. but no.. my new battery was dead . after disconnect the IBS shit .. the car started with no issue. saved me time and money . now I love my bmw
Hello,
i disconnected te IBS cable. now i have the date that remains but i still need to set the date. do i really need to wire a cable between the + and the - ? it it is recommanded to wire + and - ? how attach the wire ? thank you from France
Dead squat
I’m pretty sure it’s not a scare mongering moment. My friend fried his computer trying to jump it from the battery. It’s still possible to do jump it from the battery, but it must be done at lower voltage. Like jumper cables and let it run for some time to charge it
Worked great on my 05 530i no problems 3 months now
As I posted earlier, this worked for me so I could take my car to the dealer. I was still having issues with the date and time resetting. I had to have the dealer replace my IBS. Just thought I'd let others know, even though this trick got my care started, I still had to take it in to get a new IBS to completely resolve my issues.
thanks for sharing mate.
You will always have a Statement in the Diesel Electric Error Memory and it might be that your DPF is not regenerating
you are a dude mate!!!! cars drove me mad for 2 weeks!!!! thanks
Do I need to jump my car after disconnecting this? Put a new battery in my E60 today, and want to disconnect the IBS to reduce battery drain
would be nice if u could show us how to disconnect the ibs
Its literally just a cable you simply disconnect and done get a jump start then you're good
Did you hear a buzzing sound while inside the car
Thank you soooo much my car had the same problem and i did the same thing and it worked just curious do i plug it back on after it runs?
hello I have a problem with ibs sensor I get several errors , such as conducion dynamic disturbed you change the alternator and battery and yet I get failures and when I turn the vehicle are removed can do to disconnect the ibs to let me out failures 'm from Spain and I write from a translator thanks

Hi Atif ,
Quick question Mate..
Do you think I should still have the system registered for a new battery , even though everything is acting normal with no issues?
thanks
+naboba Hi there, have you had any issues since? Thanks.
+DaItalianstalian
Hey , I actually went to a shop and had them register the battery. It was a local euro shop and they did it for free. It's just a scanner..
Find a local shop and offer them like 20 bucks or something. They may even do it for free.
Good luck.
DaItalianstalian
nope no issues.
Solution!( buy a toyota or honda!)
what if the IBS has been disconnected and the car still gives the problem of draining the battery even after replacing the battery with a new one?
Maybe you answered this question before but there is too many comments to got through.
I took my 2007 BMW 525i to get the Matt Sensor replaced bc there was recall. I thought that would have my "Seatbelt & Airbag" light disapear but it didnt. Sales rep cant tell me how to fix it until i pay them the diagnostic fee but he did say it has to do something with the battery cable.
Can you please tell me if I replace the battery cable will it make my lights disapear if so what cable do i need to buy?
Thank you so much
So far so good. .keep you updated
glad the video helped mate.
If that option don’t work just tighten your terminals and jump start your car after , let it run or drive some where for about 20 mins should be good
will i fix the charging if i just disconnect the smart terminal?
Thank you! help a lot of time and nerves, works 100%
Cheers!
Main cause in battery drain in BMW's is the negative cable that runs to the battery....common fault
How is the negative connection the common fault ? How does the ground drain voltage?
@@stevedempsey7296 Also interested in getting his response.
In my case it was a bad wire (had to exchange the wire harness). That fixed the problem.
Thnks 4 tip, I tried, but my bmw it has major battery drain since collision and airbags deployed, even with car turned off. Any suggestions.
You are a legend Atif!
haha, thanks bud... just doing my bit.
Hi raj, i hope your problem is now resolved.
Hi, not really, its going in for a service next week, will tell the mechanic to have a look
Sara jocic
Atif thanks very much you have saved me a fortune Allah bless you :)
zac that's the best message i've had. Glad the video helped, may Allah bless you and yours.
The sensor could be faulty, reporting faults that dont exist. Keeping all us lovely bmw owners running back to bmw
Gosh... why not to connect multimeter and check actual current numbers, or is it too complex for you?
Thank you bro. It's a great help.
hi there atif I have a 04 plate 530d manual my battery was Completely dead I have changed that but it's still not starting just makes the battery dead noise click click the lights and the I drive sometimes works or chooses not to now . another point usually when I start I know the glow plugs are getting g worn out but that wouldn't do what this is doing I need help it's driving me insane
Hi I have tried to jump start a car tonight and connected to front under bonnet connections and there was a spark and my car is now dead!!!
Why is the hazard light flickering like that.......mines doing the same thing flickering, just curious
if you get a lot of error messages, try disconnecting this wire as I have shown in the video, it might get rid of the problem for you. if it doesn't then you know that you have a different problem.
Q: whats the implication with the wire detached?...is it alright if its not connected?
Hi Mate, I don't know if it is or not, it might be something else, but it might be worth trying to disconnect this wire and seeing if it makes a difference.
Did your car crank or not when you had this problem? Thanx
Hi.Did you take off the red cap fully to jump the battery in boot ? Or just lift the cap and then jump it?
In my BMW DIS application error 4477 DDE - intelligent battery sensor, no communication via the BSD interface Intelligent battery sensor (IBS) B1637_IBS and from what I can see the car running once a week is an issue as to the lack of electricity. Does the error indicates damage to the sensor?
(google translate sorry)
I have a jeep Cherokee battery drains wile running alternator Bench tested good ??.....
What code did you get on with this

I also had this same problem on my 2006 E60 M5. Battery does not drain anymore but sometimes I don't get a crank.
have you checked your starter motor?
Atif, so you discounnected your IBS cabel and your car is still running fine?
I have a 2004 BMW 530i automatic. I keep having an issue with battery. It keeps draining and I have jumped it multiple times over the past 2 months. It will keep a charge for a week or so but now it will not hold a a charge. I keep getting a clicking sound from the radio and I believe it is draining the battery. I have also checked and replaced the fuse. I have also taken the battery and gotten a full charge at an auto parts store. any ideas?
It sounds like the problem I had. Try disconnecting the IBS and see how it goes. Mine is still disconnected and running fine over a year later!
Hi Atif, had the same problem today. Disconnected the wire and car turned first time. Have you reconnected the wire yet or still giving it time?
if the ibs sensor is disconnected could it happen that the leaving home won't work? I disconnected the ibs sensor, but my leaving home wont work after 1 day of no use
.
Thanks for your kindness in sharing this information.
