I'm in love with Florida's floor routines and songs. They probably have the best line-up in the country. Great songs and choreography, without even mentioning the ridiculous tumbling!!
Except for Mossett, Kocian and Ohashi, they've been a little inconsistent, in my opinion. Still prefer Florida, Alabama (Sims, Winston, Desch) and LSU.
In college gymnastics, you're allowed - and encouraged - to take a controlled step to "present" the skill. You take a step back to present a back flipping skill, and a step forward to present a front flipping skill. This was also the case in elite gymnastics until the 2012 code. A controlled step means the step is relatively small - less than shoulder width -, and the back foot doesn't move if it's a front skill (like Kennedy's double arabian), or the front foot doesn't move if it's a back skill (like Kennedy's back tuck). If the "plant" leg remains completely stationary, there's no deduction. If that leg is sliding or stepping back as well, then it's not, and you're seeing deductions from .05 to .1. Kennedy's "plant" leg does not move in any of her passes. So in this case, it's not that the judges missed the step, it's that they saw the step, and the step was fine, because it was controlled. What's wrong with the landings? She's allowing to step as long as it's controlled, which all of them clearly were. Plant foot doesn't move
